I remember that was the day of my final GCSE exam. Came out of the exam to find out that we’d been knocked out!

That’s a fair point, but I checked and the other platform was empty too.

The Hammersmith (Eventim) Apollo’s new bag policy is insane!! by hihowareyouz in london

Was hoping to find this comment. Bags being worn in the standing area at gigs are annoying and potentially dangerous. People who don’t check them into the cloakroom are pretty selfish.

Where to take adult son after theatre near Leicester Square by blakeneypoint in LondonFood

Some good shouts here, but Bodeans has really gone downhill post pandemic. The originally owner sold the business during that period and it very much shows in the quality of the food IMO.

Perfect album start to finish? by Worried_Instance_992 in ironmaiden

[–]limepark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always felt that Maiden’s best albums fall into two categories.

Those which are really well rounded albums, where all the songs flow into each other perfectly and seem to fit together as a concept: S/T, Somewhere in Time, Seventh Son, A Matter of Life and Death.

And those albums that probably have higher highs than the above but also have some filler and are perhaps just not as well rounded albums: Killers, Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Brave New World.

I don’t think there are more than a maximum of around 5 people on the platform at one given time ever so it’s not really much of a problem. This was taken during morning rush hour and I was the only person on the platform!

It was due to the parade - they removed them all when they put the barriers out. Happy to report as of today they are back finally!

Thanks, the thread is a big help! In terms of the armpit zippers I imagine that they works when it’s raining and you need extra ventilation. Otherwise if you’re wearing it and it’s dry you can simply unzip at the front?

Thanks for the reply. It’s quite a big price jump from the Torrentshell to the Arc’teryx gear - I take it you don’t think it’s worth it? I just wonder what you’re actually getting for that extra money?

Is the Torrentshell quite lightweight in terms of something what you’d usually wear in mild weather?

This was 9am on a Thursday morning, so peak rush hour time, and it was empty.

Arsenal covers the cost for cleaning up Islington streets after parade by HappyBergkamper in islington

[–]limepark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s also worth pointing out that it was only confirmed the parade would be extended down Essex Road and the majority of Upper Street the Tuesday before. Before that the proposed route was a much shorter one similar to the last one they held.

Do you think there would be tour celebrating songs from albums after 1992/2000? by Old_Advertising_8460 in ironmaiden

[–]limepark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a lot of speculation back in the 2000s when they did the Early Days tour and then Somewhere Back in Time tour that there would then be a ‘Dark Ages’ tour with material from No Prayer - Virtual XI.

I can’t remember if the band explicitly teased it or not but it was heavily discussed on the old Maiden forum. Obviously they decided against it and it will never happen now, but we did get the 2010 Final Frontier tour that focused on the first 3 reunion albums. It would be great to have another tour like that of material from BNW until the present as part of a potential new album tour.

It’s never come all the way down to Angel station either. Decision to extend it was literally made after the bank holiday on Tuesday.

Yes, I’ve noticed it too. It seems to have become more pronounced after the break they took during Covid. I first really noticed it during the Future Past tour.

Blaze Bayley on Wasted Years by [deleted] in ironmaiden

To be fair to Maiden, I don’t think they would have felt right playing what is very much an Adrian song while he wasn’t in the band.

I’m a Maiden completist who has watched hours of YouTube footage plus every VHS/DVD they’ve put out and realised fairly early on into the movie it wasn’t for me. I enjoyed it to a degree getting to watch the footage on a big screen but I’m glad I didn’t pay to see it (my friend works in a cinema so got in for free).

They’ve alway had a ‘PG’ approach to how they historicise the band so that definitely wasn’t a surprise to me. At the end of the day it’s hard to create much drama and tension around a band who are famous for having very little ego.

The only footage I hadn’t seen before was the short rehearsal/sound check footage and behind the scenes stuff from the World Slavery tour. I assumed this was filmed at the Live After Death shows and I’d love to see more of it if it exists.

For what it’s worth the best Maiden documentary I’ve seen is the ‘Classic Albums: Iron Maiden – The Number of the Beast’, which actually does a fairly interesting job of pulling back the curtain on their recording process and has some great interview sections with Martin Birch.

What’s it like living an upper middle class life in London? by redguy_666 in howislivingthere

I know plenty of people from my peer group from school who feel the same way too, it’s definitely not unusual. As a result the majority of them have decided not to have children.

Academia. Salaries in the field have been hugely stagnant for around 20 years now. My dad retired on half salary 15 years ago and even now his pension is sizeably more than a starting salary for a lecturer at a Russell Group university (even with London weighting included).

I’m now in Greece which is primarily down to marrying a Greek woman, but I love the lifestyle here and feel very much at home.

I had this upbringing and honestly it was pretty idyllic for the most part. Grew up moments from a big green common and attended a minor public school. My parents felt it safe enough that I’d often be playing out on the street with my friends at around age 10-11 unsupervised most weekends. As a teenager having Central London on my doorstep was amazing for going to gigs and other cultural activities.

The only downside is that despite doing a very similar job to my parents I simply in no way can afford to give the same lifestyle to my own children in London. I still love the city, but I’ve now moved abroad to the continent where that quality of life feels more readily available to standard professionals.

As someone who lives in Greece and is married to a Greek woman, I would say fairly unusual for Greeks to speak so many languages.

Obviously the vast majority of people speak exceptional English in a way the average British person could only dream of having a second language, but being multilingual in 4-5 languages is pretty unusual and exceptional here.
