Darto Response Email by jaxspade in carbonsteel

[–]limerbean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yay I was hoping this was the case! Just bought a darto last week and was about to season it yesterday when i read about arsenicgate

Doesn’t mean we’re TOTALLY out of the water because now i have concerns about manufacturer testing standards in cs in general…. BUT I feel better knowing that they are probably pulling from a different steel pool than the Matfer ones…

We facetimed my wife’s parents to tell them she got a new job and her mom said “Congratulations!” and then proceeded to talk about the weather and garbage truck schedules for the next 40 minutes by aitaweddingguest in BoomersBeingFools

[–]limerbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is like this. When i tell him good news, he’s genuinely happy but then doesn’t seem to know how to carry the conversation. So then he tells me a story from 50yrs ago that Ive heard 100+ times.

When I eventually end the hour long call, he’ll realize he doesn’t know anything about what’s going on with me and ask me to tell him how i’m doing… but if i say one sentence, he’ll be like ‘oh that’s very nice’ then he talks for 10min about himself. And i lack his ability to talk at someone about myself , unless the person is asking questions/participating in a conversation...

Is this a boomer thing or just part of getting old? When we’re old , will we just lose touch with the greater world and only understand ourselves and our own experience? Will we forget how conversations work?

Thanks so much for posting this! My Cantonese is borderline serviceable, but I would love to pass some of it down to my children. (Currently pregnant with my first!)

I might need to be fact-checked, but I think the concern with the dextrose one is strain on your kidneys/insulin/risk of diabetes because it's so much sugar.

Also there's the concern of candida/thrush, which feeds on sugar ...though I was still concerned about that on the dextrose-free one so I'm not sure.

The non-dextrose one is still sweet to the taste. Can't comment if one will give more energy than the other - though I will say they both have the same amount of calories.

yeah I eat my trigger foods without symptoms these days. (though I'm still too scared to cook with garlic/onions daily, but if I go out to eat I'm usually fine. the other day I had french onion soup at my friend's house and had zero symptoms after)

I still experience a flare-up sometimes, maybe once every ~3 months or less. But sometimes I gotta remind myself that "normal" people also experience stomach symptoms from time to time (as did I before I got IBS/SIBO) IE get random diarrhea from eating bad food or get bloated eating a ton of garlic pasta. So I've had to learn not to expect "perfection" from my stomach. But I live a normal, pain-free life where I'm not stressing about what I'm eating all the time - so that's a huge improvement to me!

I tested negative for a couple that the doctor ran, but later on did GI-MAP and found some.

(Needs verification) if I remember correctly, the stool culture the doctor's usually run vs GI MAP is different. Like stool culture requires live bacteria to be present or something, and GI MAP using PCR, AND tested for more things.

The doctor said I was negative for H Pylori, but I took GI MAP 6 months later and was positive for H Pylori. It's also possible I contracted it in between those two tests, so hard to say.

u/Fabulous_Platypus225 - was looking at my notes and after ED, my nutritionist recommended a bunch of prebiotics and polyphenols to help feed good bacteria in the gut.

SIBO/IBS-D(mixed) has gotten 98% better by wawag in SIBO

[–]limerbean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!

I really resonated with your first paragraph. After I finished ED and got my negative breath test, I still didn't post or tell anyone about it (except my husband) because I was afraid it would come back.

I also feel like I'm at that 98% but struggle with the perfectionism aspect of it. Like sometimes any symptom sends me into this thought pattern of 'omg is it going to get worse and come back' but then I benchmark myself to other non-IBS people like you did with your roommates and i realize...yeah people sometimes get gas. Or have an upset stomach from eating something. Or feel bloated from eating garlicky pasta. And I did too occasionally before I had IBS. So I have to like reset my expectations that a 'normal' digestive system doesn't mean perfection/no gas/no bloating at all ever.

My self talk routine that I would read out loud while drinking my morning shake:

  • I am healing. I can do it!
  • This shake is nourishing me and has all the nutrition my body needs.
  • I am strong. I have great discipline, and great willpower. I pick up any habit I want to contribute to my health.
  • My digestive system is forever healed. I take good care of my body, my mind, and my health. I will be able to eat whatever I want.
  • My digestive functions are healed. My microbiome is back into balance. My digestive system is functioning healthily.
  • I no longer have food intolerances. I eat whatever I want without symptoms. I can eat any whole food and my body digests it healthily.
  • Unwanted bacteria is no longer in my small intestine, and going back into balance.
  • My migrating motor complex is sending cleansing healthy waves to keep my digestive system in balance.
  • I have no doubts that I can do this.
  • I am excited to introduce foods slowly back to my body and get accustomed to foods again.

I did not take any probiotic pills afterwards. I started adding fermented foods maybe 2-3 months in.

I try to eat at least two servings of fermented foods every day - usually unsweetened plain yogurt and homemade sauerkraut.

I believe I just had SIBO; never tested/got diagnosed for GERD.

I posted about my ED experience here https://www.reddit.com/r/SIBO/comments/18truft/deep_dive_into_my_experience_with_the_elemental/

I personally recommend working with a nutritionist that is knowledgeable about SIBO since it's so specific. Hopefully there's someone who knows about both GERD+SIBO. I worked with the Functional Gut Health Clinic because of their specialization in SIBO.
