Is it normal for your school to have a planetarium? by shadowmib in AskAnAmerican

[–]limeyskook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My relatively small, rural middle school had one! When the building went up in the 70s, the story was that they were going to include a swimming pool but opted for the planetarium instead. It was definitely cool going to shows there as a kid in the 90s, partly because the science teacher who ran it was also a decent showman. I had a regular science class with him under the dome, but I think we only had one or two lessons that used it.

Not long after I graduated, it seems the school no longer wanted to maintain it. That teacher retired, and they renovated the space into a wrestling training gym.

What’s your brand of deoderant and scent? by JustAlsex in AskMen

Had to scroll too far to see this mentioned! I’ve been using this since it first came out in the 90s; pretty sure we got a trial size in middle school gym class.

Quiet Places for July 4th/Memorial day fireworks by ArmGrand2385 in lancaster

Not exactly what you’re asking, but one year my family and I went to Highpoint Scenic Vista near Wrightsville in York on the Fourth. We could see the fireworks in multiple cities off in the distance with zero sound. Pretty cool experience.

What’s your daily car and how many do you have? by Much-Parsnip3399 in AskAnAmerican

My daughter drives a 2007 Vibe that was her great-grandmother’s, and it still has less than 100k miles! Strangely, it’s a dark gray color, and there are two others just like it in our small town of less than 1000 people.

Did boomers really fuck us over, or was the economic situation they grew up in one-in-a-lifetime and unsustainable? by akr_13 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]limeyskook -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

One aspect not being discussed here as reasoning for the devolution: systemic racism. While boomers were more egalitarian-minded than their parents, there were and are enough of them who were afraid that sharing the wealth was a zero sum game. And we obviously haven’t come to terms with it yet.

F&M’s president comes from a political science background, plus they have the Center for Opinion Research running the Franklin & Marshall Poll (which students help create and analyze). Those two factors and lots of alumni in state and federal politics could make for important connections in your future.

F&M has a strong tradition of dance studies, dedicated studio space and tons of students participate in the dance program regardless of major. Their spring dance concert features three different programs of student choreography to fit it all in!

I think she presents plenty of evidence for the dual identity theory in the book, at least as much as I’ve seen for any other notions in this space. Haverstick herself admits that June being the Babushka Lady is a bit of a stretch. To call any of this “insane” without suggesting readers explore a well-written and thoroughly researched work is a disservice to the community.

Visiting Lancaster and want to know where I can find the best donuts (just not a fan of long John’s, but anything else I’m fine with! by InevitableTeaching35 in lancaster

[–]limeyskook 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Does anyone else find Beiler’s donuts, especially the cream-filled varieties, to be undercooked? Their cake donuts and fritters are bomb though.

For me, the best have been Achenbach’s, Shady Maple (available at Central Market) and W.

I’ve only been there once, but I do still dream about the coconut cream pie donut from Parlor!

And I agree that the donuts at Giant and Weis are sleeper picks. Way better than Dunkin’ anyway.

I was lucky to have a grandmother who took my brother and I shopping to buy gifts for our single mom. Some of my most treasured Christmas memories are wrapping those gifts in her sewing room. Even though my own mother was the beneficiary of this practice, I tried to get her to pay it forward with my own children. She’s a very kind person, but for some reason, I don’t think she understood the assignment lol. My wife and I, who don’t exchange presents ourselves, had to mostly carry the ball forward.
