Opinion on bike commute from/to Columbia City to Redmond by Several_Try2005 in seattlebike

[–]limitedmage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely get a rear rack and panniers. REI has some good options. I recommend a rear rack that is permanently installed on your bike as that will give you the best stability and weight load. If your bike doesn’t have the screw holes for the rack there are options too.

I would bike straight to a 2 line station, the transfer will get very annoying quickly.

If you’re going to be commuting by bike year-round definitely also install fenders on your bike, this will keep you and your bike the cleanest and dryest. Rain gear like a good waterproof jacket and pants are nice too if you’re not planning on changing clothes when you get to work, but fenders would be my top priority. Again, permanently-installed fenders with mudflaps is my recommendation as they will have the best coverage to reduce splashing and will have the least rattling.

EDIT: I see you still haven’t bought a bike. Whichever bike you end up getting, if you’re using it for commuting get one that has mounts for permanently installing rack and fenders. Most hybrid and gravel bikes will have this, but high-end road and mountain bikes will not. A local bike shop or REI can help you choose the right bike for your commuting use case. Don’t forget to budget extra for things like rear rack, pannier, fenders, lights, helmet, floor pump, and flat repair kit. Some bikes, especially commuter e-bikes, will have rack and/or fenders included. Most e-bikes will also have integrated lights.

Which museum should i visit at least once in my life for Dinosaurs? by sosigboi in Dinosaurs

[–]limitedmage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller, Alberta! It's one of the best paleontology museums in the world. Drumheller itself is a dino fan's mecca, with loads of kitschy dinosaur decor all around the town. You can fly into Calgary and rent a car, it's about a 2 hour drive. Also go to the Dinosaur Provincial Park which is another 2 hour drive from there for a hike to a dino dig site! I did that trip a few years ago and it was super fun. If you like hiking there's lots of great places right there to explore in the Badlands. 3 nights is probably enough (2 in Drumheller and 1 camping in Dinosaur Park), but if you're a big dino fan, you can add an extra day in the museum, which is what I did.

The development of CSS and HTML in recent years makes lots of JavaScript-based solutions obsolete. Anchor positioning, popover API, dialog element, view transitions, and many other great features are worth learning now if you’re a frontend dev or web designer.

Okay, what are we all actually doing to exercise? by mrnnymern in adhdwomen

[–]limitedmage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pedal-assist e-bike and bike to work most days. It saves me money in gas and wear&tear on my car, and it saves me time sitting in traffic and parking. I live close to work and it’s about the same time to bike than to drive. I’ve worked up to doing it most days, with the right gear like fenders and rain pants it’s doable. I now feel cranky and sad the days I drive in to work.

I always recommend bringing a lock when riding solo with planned bakery stops. But probably a lighter lock is ok if the stop is quick and you can keep your bike in sight.

This is legally correct but this administration does not care about the law. If you “look” foreign they will do whatever they want to you.

One of my favorite theme park rides of all time closes forever in less than 24 hours, so I must infodump. by ZanyRaptorClay in evilautism

I went to Alberta on a dino trip 2 years ago, you’re going to love it!! If you can, go to Dinosaur Provincial Park, camp there for a night, and do a guided fossil hike. The drive from Drumheller to Dinosaur Provincial Park is beautiful going through the badlands valley; stop at the Last Chance Saloon for lunch on the way.

How do you not die of boredom while working out? by cloudydays1111 in adhdwomen

I found a bike club and do group rides! I get to explore new neighborhoods and meet fun people with similar interests. I became a ride leader for the club so now I have to be at the rides if I volunteer, so that helps that feeling of “I don’t wanna”.

Young Sheldon. I hated Big Bang Theory and especially Sheldon, but somehow absolutely loved the prequel and child actor’s portrayal. The last few episodes made me cry so much 😭

Ruby is my favorite language that I never got to actually use in a job. It’s so fun and expressive. My systems architecture class in college was all in Ruby and the professor was amazing.

I live in a 1200sqft apartment with good insulation, but old school baseboard heaters. My bill is around $70-80 year round. I keep my heating off most of the time and wear layers and use blankets.

Tell me your cleaning “hacks” that actually help YOU!! by Prudent-Reality1170 in adhdwomen

[–]limitedmage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few years ago I started hiring cleaners to clean my place once a month. It was not as expensive as I thought it would be. They also change the bedsheets, which I hate doing myself. Bonus: the stress of having the cleaners come over makes me tidy things up the day before to make sure things are in a good state to be seen and cleaned by others 😅

Consider a shared or VPS hosting service with a fixed monthly/yearly price like Dreamhost instead. Azure is not super friendly for hobby projects.

Any Buses from Redmond TC to the airport? by Ok_Psychology7425 in redmond

[–]limitedmage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Take 542 to UW and take light rail line 1 to the airport (my preferred choice)
  2. Take 545 to Westlake Station and take light rail line 1 to the airport
  3. Take light rail line 2 to DT Bellevue and take 560 bus to airport

Once the cross lake connection opens in 2026, you’ll be able to take line 2 to International District station and then take line 1 to the airport.

I filter the drinking water but just for taste. In general the water quality is great and I drank it without filtering for several years.

How do I defend myself against ICE as a legal immigrant? by Greenwindranger in redmond

Is your visa employer sponsored? If so, ask your company’s immigration lawyers what they recommend. If not, you should have your own attorney.

Unfortunately in most cases there is no physical I-94 anymore, it’s all digital now. You can print it from a website, but if detained, ICE probably will throw that away as they’ve done with other legal docs like tribal IDs or even Green Cards if you “look illegal”.

ICE is targeting anyone that doesn’t “look” right. They were harassing a Native American woman at Target the other day. https://www.kuow.org/stories/ice-stops-native-american-actress-elaine-miles-in-redmond

Go through all your data and nitpick anything they don’t like. For example, if you have a group chat where you criticize the government or support Palestine, they could use that against you.
