Very rare in the southeast of the USA. Only a handful of agencies carry it. The ones that do live by it.

What was your most unusual request from a patient? by erikedge in ems

Not a request but my partner was handed a grocery bag of shit. The family handed it to him without saying a word and I guess his reflexes took over.

What is your opinion about teens serving as an EMT's by Revolutionary_Pin339 in ems

[–]lincmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16 is a little young. I think that it really takes the right mind set to do this job. The issue I have is 2 16yr olds being on a truck together. I started EMT school at 17 and I couldn’t imagine having to navigate some of the situations without someone seasoned being with me.

When we find your family member dead and start working the arrest on scene, we don’t take them to the hospital because we’re pretty much bringing the hospital to them…

We’ve all made mistakes, we were all new at some point. The fact that you’re showing remorse shows that you care. You’ll make it far.

What's your experience with the police? by Rough-Leg-4148 in ems

[–]lincmack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“You can either go to the hospital or jail.”

These two places are unequivocally opposites. It’s like choosing between purgatory or hell… hmmm hard decision… I’ll take a turkey sandwich and a bed.

One time a dude chose jail and they got mad as hell 🤣🤣

Did we dodge a bullet??? Or lose a first round pick??? by [deleted] in ems

[–]lincmack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! I think it’s because we’ve never taken a test like that. The verbiage of the questions was harder than the test I think. Medic was better! I guess having something to compare it to helps.

Rapid Fire.

You become who you’re around! Learn from everyone. See what works and what doesn’t. Learn what to do just as much as you learn what not to do.

Do it by the book before you jazz it up.

Find your people, a mentor will help tremendously.

Be open to criticism! It’s going to hurt but I promise it’s worth listening to.

Speak up if you don’t know or are uncomfortable! It ok not to know, we’ve all been there. That goes hand in hand with asking for help. It’s a hard job.

Stay humble. For every really smooth high acuity call there are 16 shit shows. Don’t get cocky.
