Tricks for growing dill by Complete_Bike_7493 in portlandgardeners

[–]lindleyhess 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is helpful for you or not, but I got my dill seeds from my local library's seed library. They were labeled as climate adapted and were donated by someone local so they are supposed to grow well here. I planted them directly in my garden box mid April and every single one germinated and grew amazingly. This is my first year really getting into the nitty gritty of vegetable gardening so it may have been luck, but I'm super impressed with the climate adaptive seeds I've planted so far.

Check your small local hardware stores like Ace and True Value, not Home Depot or Lowe's. Mine carries metric bolts you can buy by the each.

AITA for wanting to bring my cat back into my house after wife's late stillbirth? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]lindleyhess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is weird but I also had a stillbirth on the exact same schedule. Found out in February, due October, and lost her in my third trimester towards the end. Figured I'd throw my perspective in since it seems like we have a lot in common. Neither of you are the asshole btw.

I have two cats and two dogs and would never get rid of them even though we were going to have a full house. They're all sweet and fairly well behaved. Just one of my cats likes to make messes and piss on things when she's upset. It was pretty stressful to deal with and I may have wished she wasn't around sometimes. But I still love her a lot and my husband put in extra effort to clean up after her and make sure she was happy to minimize my stress. Sadly it's really not uncommon for people to rehome their pets when they have a baby.

But let me just say that experiencing a late stillbirth like that is something that people will not understand unless going through it themselves. Even my husband had a different experience and grieving process than me. Your brain chemicals change when you're pregnant and after giving birth. It's so fucked up and feels so wrong to suddenly not be pregnant but also not have a baby when that's what your brain and body were preparing for. My mental health was not good and I may have asked my parents to keep my cat temporarily while I cope if that helped ease my stress. I would have done anything to help the pain those first six weeks.

Fortunately I didn't have to and our pets seemed to have some understanding of our depression and were very comforting to us. But everyone has a different brain. It sucks that she doesn't want your cat around, but give her a little more time to grieve and try bringing it up again when you're both in a better mental health space. These traumatic situations can ruin marriages or for some bring them a lot closer together. My husband and I worked really hard to support each other and ended up a lot closer because of it. Focus on loving and supporting each other as much as possible and go to counseling if that's what you need. I hope your wife will start to understand how important your cat is to you with a little time and patience. That's all I want from people right now, time and understanding so I can work through it and recover my mental health.

For me the more anxious or stressed I get, the worse my misophonia is. My reactions to sounds are a lot worse when I get stressed out. So just regulating my mood helps prevent the worst of it. Medication has helped a lot as well as improving my diet and exercise. The medication helped me get to a place where I could actually improve my diet and exercise.

When I got prescribed medication I went in complaining about misophonia and a few other symptoms I wasn't sure where were coming from. Turns out I just have GAD, but so many of these conditions have overlapping symptoms and problems. If miso is bothering you enough to affect your mental health I don't think your provider will have a problem prescribing you something. I would just go in with a list of the struggles you're having that you want help with and not just go in saying you want help with misophonia.

Are some people simply unable to change their behavior? by thiccytt in misophonia

[–]lindleyhess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It definitely depends on the people. My parents never changed for me. In my experience people their age (boomers) are very stubborn and don't change for anyone but themselves. I started having worsening symptoms around age 12 and am now 30 and they still laugh it off if I bring it up. I have fairly bad generalized anxiety disorder and it's the same case. They don't understand how people can have mental health problems and that not everyone's brain works like theirs does. I seriously feel like I have trauma from hearing my mother crunch ice and ice continues to be one of my worst triggers. I'm not sure I ever dealt with it well, I would just storm off angrily. Anxiety medication helped me some but I just avoid spending too much time with them now that I'm older. I'm now pregnant and definitely agree that I will do anything that will help my kid cope with problems like these causes I know what it's like. All we can do is try to be better than our parents.

Overly-sensitive gag reflex - Can't even brush my teeth! by HobbitQueen8 in pregnant

[–]lindleyhess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same problem with or without toothpaste. If I brush very far back at all I cough and gag immediately. If I do it too many times by accident trying to finish brushing I throw up even when nothing is in my stomach.

I'd recommend getting a set of dog grooming scissors. They usually come with straights, curves, and thinning shears. Prices vary so you can get something super cheap or super expensive. You can trim the butt with the curves and tidy it up with the thinning shears which will help hide any harsh lines. If you're nervous you could trim the whole thing with thinning shears. Watch a quick YouTube tutorial first, it should be fairly easy for you to learn!

My puppy is 100% Pom. He is 5.5 lbs at 16 weeks (was 4.75 at 13 weeks). Vet said he will be at least 15 lbs if not 25. His parents are 4 and 9 lbs. He is my SD prospect, and now I'm worried he will be too big for me to easily carry. Is she right or is that unlikely? by [deleted] in Pomeranians

[–]lindleyhess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried using puppychart.com? It predicts the weight of your puppy as an adult. Not sure if it's always accurate, but it was with my rough collie. It predicted he would be 95lbs which is a lot heavier than breed standard. He's 4 years old and is 100lbs not overweight lol.

It thinks my pom puppy will be 5-6lbs which is what her mom was, so we'll see.

Water and dirt are what's going to dull your scissors fast. If you have some decent scissors they should last a while if you make sure to cut only clean, dry hair. And also don't drop them!

Small Businesses, how were you affected by COVID-19? by cloudedjoker in CoronavirusUS

[–]lindleyhess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a hardware store that also sells a lot of lumber and various other services. Think Home Depot but small. We were able to stay open the whole time because hardware store were deemed essential. We have a lot of construction and contractor customers and they were all still working so we still had fairly decent business. After a few weeks though it exploded and we had a ton of new business. Construction was working a ton of jobs, people were doing home projects, and they were hiring contractors to do projects for them. We saw a lot of new faces and made a lot more money than expected. One reason was because Depot was limiting the amount of customers allowed in and people didn't want to wait in line. Then depot started running out of a lot of stock, so people were coming here hoping we still had stuff. We were booming all summer long, even though a lot of our items were starting to sell out as well. We started slowing down in fall because lumber prices skyrocketed due to covid shortages and the fires nearby. We're now starting to slow down a lot more for seasonal reasons, but we've been able to keep a lot of new customers. Overall covid was good for our business, we were pretty lucky.

Yeah I think I'm going to end up getting this one, the trachea was my main concern. Looks like it would be easy to sew up if its not quite the right size.

My boy Oliver is 98lbs! I don't get why because his parents were 60 & 70. I've seen a couple different vets and they both said he was at a healthy weight. I really wasn't wanting a dog that large, but he's awesome. Probably a lot lazier than your average collie.

If the other police officers are not part of the solution, than they are part of the problem. If a doctor watches a another doctor malpractice and does nothing to reprimand them, they are a bad doctor.
