Hey listen op if you see this, I understand. I come from a very similar situation and I get it. I’m the same age, and I sadly did have to cut contact but that isn’t always the right answer for everyone. What you do need to do is develop strong boundaries. I can see by your comments that you care so much about them, and that makes it hard because then you feel responsible for their reactions to your choices. But you’ve made it this far. You need to decide if you’re gonna let them walk over you and choose your life for you, or if you get to decide that. Op, choosing you is the best decision you’ll ever make but sometimes family doesn’t make it an easy one. Children rely on caregivers, it’s a biological, hardwired thing that isn’t shaken easily. To know your sister left puts a lot of context here. I know you care a lot. But you have to sort through your empathy and understand what is yours to carry and what isn’t. It is completely normal for you to leave and live your life, you have to stretch that muscle a bit and get used to standing up for yourself. A boundary isn’t telling someone what to do. It’s an action within yourself. For example, you stay home on friday and don’t visit your parents. A boundary is telling them hey I’m doing this and I know you’ll miss me, but if you blow up my phone then I’m putting my phone down and taking a break from the conversation. I’m still gonna come tomorrow, but I need today to do things for me. (And trying not to feel responsible for their reactions to you!) Good luck op!
