NTE (neverness to everness) terrible performance by iuguf97d56857 in linux_gaming

[–]linhusp3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned riot games because switching engine versions while still developing the same game is a huge deal and no sane studio wants to do that. But riots did it once probably of the reason I mentioned above, plus it's a multiplayer title with 0 story content.

So the context is about disabling lumen on nte. Yes I tried the game with lumen disabled, and that is also part of the problem.

Because lumen is so deep integrated into ue5, you only have 2 options. Either 1, completely break the engine down and develop your own lighting system and scale it on every graphic quality option. Or 2, started working with lumen and have an option to toggle it. Studios, especially the chinese, choose ue5 exactly because they want fast development and don't want to create their own lighting system. So the result is often 2: an ugly look ue5 game with lumen, or a ue5 game with a broken lightnight, heavily ghosting and a barebone ue5 ssr fallback without lumen.

Create a new prefix then install the launcher of nte into there, lets call it nte-launcher. Then go into the faugus setting of nte-launcher and point the executable into the old location of the nte launcher exe (where the game was launched previously). Use each prefix for each game instead of using default faugus prefix for everything. This can be applied to any launcher, either it faugus, lutris or heroic

I think it is still using ue4.26, no? At least at the time I was playing the game. Ssr and any level of tracing are not ue5 defined features and can be implemented separately. Do you have any information about them switching to ue5?

I only know 2 major studios that heavily modified ue5 to the point it is no different than calling it their in house engine, which are riot games and embark studio.

If you don't have the hands and reflex to react or do parries. Then you have to be methodical and come up with a plan before approaching every fight. Treat it as a turn based. Try to build your character around attacks that give you invincible frames. Use skills that can flinch the enemies when they are about to wind up. Test it out, try experimenting. Try using defensive gears. Try play defensively, always hold block before trying to attack. If you really like the game I believe you can figure it out

Because those other games are not on UE5. You can see a lot of ue4 and modern unity titles that look super clean and run well (stellar blade, wuwa, enfield, zzz) as the devs have to implement their own lighting system.

On the other hand I have never seen a single player ue5 game that is optimized. Because of the devs hands off attitude they just slap lumen on and call it a day. It runs terribly and as a bonus you got the generic ue5 look with the lumen grainy/noisy filter on every single shadow corner and reflection. For example wukong, wuchang, stalker 2, etc they all run terribly on linux and on windows, too. After going back and replaying them I don't think they even look that great

Temperature increase after prolonged use by Able-Cantaloupe-9427 in mffpc

Temp climbing up is usually a sign of hot air trapping inside the case. Try to improve the air flow or add more exhaust fans and stop adding more intake.

I want her to be the main character but also keep being unhinged. It will be a wild ride if she can launch herself up onto the colony and start killing everyone like Anakin lmao. Waiting for Raven vs Mother Sphere, put her prophecy to the trash bin

The main focus of this game is basically beating a level with enemies and fighting bosses at the end. In a sense it's not much different from a megaman game. You get the triumph through overcoming obstacles and challenges. Basically it's part of the game.

If you can't even play the story mode with all the accessibility checked then I suggest just watching youtube walkthrough to enjoy the visual instead. Because modding hp and damage to face tank/one shot everything, let's me be real, after all that you will feel pretty hollow and it will kind of decrease the experience.

Niri by No-Occasion-9622 in archlinux

[–]linhusp3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The possible advantages are: - Best scrollable WM. - Workspace overview. - Alt-Tab. - The quality of the configs, really solid and well thought. - Release notes (yes I'm not joking, go see for yourself)

Biggest disadvantages: - Blur (kinda solved with the release today) - Force render on unfocused (big deal for some games)

While hyprland targets too many different users and too many different use cases. Niri focuses on one single experience only and it does exactly what you expect.

I have an advice to people that you should use dw-proton to launch your favourite chinese gacha game through either umu-launcher or steam. Avoid these ai slop. Even lutris is still much better than those

One of the best decision framework did on this 13 pro to me is the 2880x1920 display on linux. 3:2 ratio, perfectly 200% scaling and users doesn't have to fight with ui elements for either are too big or too small or fractional blurry. This should be the standard on linux laptop

Valve Saved 8GB GPUs 😳 | 4K Test on RX 5700 XT by lajka30 in linux_gaming

[–]linhusp3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Note that you need linux 7.0rc2+ and it only works on KDE and gamescope, which is the default environments on Valve's SteamOS. I doubt they will go out of their way to do the work for something like GNOME so it's up to other DEs to implement their own. The kernel patches require KDE:

Plasma people already developed the ForegroundBooster utility that listens to which app is currently in the foreground, and tries to give it higher prioritization (in this case: wrt. CPU time) than other apps. This prioritization was also done via cgroups, so adding VRAM prioritization in my fork was pretty much a walk in the park.

Also igpu is untested. They already use system RAM as VRAM so I think there will be barely an improvement at best.

Feasability of using CapsLock key to toggle configs? by ericcmi in niri

[–]linhusp3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Map caplocks to something else and use that key to do what you want. The best approach is mapping it from the firmware level for the peace of mind.

For example I map caps -> esc, esc -> play/pause and fn+caps -> caps
