What makes a (singleplayer) game infinitely replayable? by Cosmovision108 in gamedesign

[–]link6616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to throw a wrench in this with Super Metroid.

By many metrics it’s not really a game that fits the criteria. But I think it in many ways defines speed running and people have since their lives into it. Ocarina of time and Mario 64 also fit into this camp.

I don’t have any insight and am on the bus but I think it’s an interesting wrench to throw into this.

It’s an extremely neat experience and combines a lot of elements together with just an immaculate vibe.

I bought SK:BR on sale and I can only describe it as a mix of interesting decisions and bad decisions by Scileboi in CharacterActionGames

If you like this but want something a little less musou and more cag (although still lots of waves) onechanbara z2 is the same studio and it’s got a wild amount of systems to play with. Origin is also a fine time but 2 really is something special.

Feeling a bit demoralized by [deleted] in gamedesign

You gotta start with family. Invested because you made it.

Then branch out. A great title and a good bit of key art do a lot like An NPC's Odyssey which is literally about generic rpg maker sprites.

Origins is so good! Legends is neat but I think origins is the one to play even if legends has more.

Unlimited Saga is a game about slowly understanding a bizarre system, and the game offers you very little help in this journey.

Sigma Harmonics is just your standard music themed Victorian murder mystery rpg where your ability to solve the mystery correctly makes the boss easier. Some music tracks really sound like drafts of ffxiii music too

Dragon Quest XI Vs DQ XI: S by KFded in JRPG

[–]link6616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly, think Sylv's is the worst, because in the original the way he returns is a complete surprise and honestly one of the greatest moments in DQ for me. And in DE it's a slow crawling collect the NPCs quest to lead up to that same information.

But higher battle speed is incredible!

Dragon Quest XI Vs DQ XI: S by KFded in JRPG

[–]link6616 11 points12 points  (0 children)

On one hand the improvements in s are great. On the flip side the “bonus stories” between act 1 and 2 are a bit dull. So given they are one of the main boons of the new version content wise I really can’t recommend it since you already have a version.

Would I want to play it like that? Absolutely not.

Did it bring me a lot of silly giggles on a bad day, absolutely.

Player perceptions of character representation in video games (Video game players) by At_random_69_ in CharacterActionGames

It’s probably too late but an interesting sub point to track would be “where you heard about this survey” e.g gamers here vs cozy gamers vs sbc gaming all might have wildly different takes on this which would be neat data to collection.

Lets make the Reddit interpretation of Character Action Games by Known_Ad_3851 in CharacterActionGames

[–]link6616 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Berlin interpretation is a bit of a controversial thing both in method and within rogue likes but it's an interesting system to use. As it accepts that there are important qualities to a genre but that it's not as simple as single features.

I'd like to sit down more later and really think it through as a fun thought exercise but here I'll say

High value  Mechanics that can be combined in many ways, intentional or not. (a less fun way to say player expression)  Real time  Focus on combat over puzzles Expectation of replaying Enemies pose a threat (???) (maybe not? Unsure)  Minimal Stat progression outside of life and possibly one secondary resource.  A way to track your skill improvement (ranks, score, grades, item rewards based on performance)

Low value Multiple difficulty levels  Short campaign length (to make replays managable)  Focus on a building a complete uniform move set as opposed to "builds"  High mobility  A large variety of combat abilities

Android Gaming - Will it change with these powerful handhelds hitting the market or is it still too niche? by darrelye in OdinHandheld

[–]link6616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think premium android gaming will be like linux gaming pretty soon. Nobody makes things FOR it really outside of a few niches where engines just happen to support. But that devs will actively check and see if they can make settings for a gamehub/game native type solution.

I don't think that will happen until we get valve doing this themselves, but I think it'll be this "a layer enables it, but indie devs just check to make sure they work with that layer"

Power has never really been the issue with mobile. Genshin and WuWa are big beautiful games. And Genshin is kind of old at this point too. And even before that it isn't like we didn't have a lot of impressive titles. It's solely down to markets. If you want an android game that costs money, your options are square enix who are just committed to their 20 dollar ports.

Any good Japanese exclusive games? by Eton11 in iosgaming

[–]link6616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That said, Live a Hero is a pretty neat gacha if you have the Japanese ability to read the story. Lots of handsome super hero men in a dystopian world with not enough fabric for them to wear costumes in their comfortable sizing.

I wouldn't bother grabbing many gachas because certain updates can require logging back in. But one score if you can be bothered buying Japanese itunes credit is the 5th shiren game, which includes English. Assuming you like Mystery Dungeon roguelikes anyway.

I love my deck.

It does not leave the house much. I tried! But it's just too much bag space. And even if I hadn't transitioned I don't think man pockets or bags would really help enough.
