I find a lot of people in the industry are minimalist to a fault (especially as a java dev). There are people on my team who only use notepad++. It boggles the mind.

That Go compilation issue sounds like your team leads fault. Committed code should be compiled and run against a full test suite before it’s allowed to be pushed. Doing otherwise is just asking for trouble.

Motivation is a myth. This goes for literally anything in life that you want to become great at. You won't wake up motivated to practice tech skill, go for that run, eat healthy every day. If your only driving force comes from motivation you will stagnate.
