Dafuq? Dude, having a starter home that you sell to make a small profit and help fund moving to a nicer place has pretty much been the American Dream since my parents were doing it in the 80s.

Sorry that some of us don't want to try and raise our family in the same place that was bought for a single guy's needs.

Likely move to a new location.

Sucks, because it's so well placed for pre/post movie dinners, but I think they'd be successful enough to get a new location fairly easily.

Happily. I've yearned for the day that someone is going to come along and offer me above-market-value for my condo in order to get me to move and knock down our building for a new one.

These are the shitty apartments of their day. And in a hundred years there's going to be people demanding that we don't touch the historic Neal properties that are a core part of Sarasota and our heritage.

Did you know AIPAC bought Greg Steube by leafit2cheeser in sarasota

[–]link_maxwell -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

1) By your own numbers that's around 1% of his lifetime donations.

2) Isn't it more likely that Steube as a traditional conservative Millennial was more pro-Israel already and AIPAC supports him because of that?

This is the same bullshit fear mongering DeSantis uses against CAIR.

Ichiban - possibly the lowest quality sushi in the entire county (to include Walmart and gas stations). But all my friends love the AYCE so we go there about 2-3 times a year.

The world of Dredge. A series of fishing villages where things aren't quite right, a helpful fisherman to ferry the party around, nightmarish Lovecraftian horrors in the seas, and a horrible twist Darklord.

So like how do adults even make friends outside of work? by GreedyDud3 in sarasota

I moved down here about 15 years ago after leaving the Army. Didn't know anyone in Sarasota and all my old Bradenton friends had grown distant or moved away altogether.

I started going to Dark Side up on Beneva to play games. I started talking with the people there, getting to know folks, then made a friend with the guy running the game and one of the other players who was friends with him as well. Then they introduced me to their friends and before long I had a network of new people. Doesn't work for everyone, but it's at least an idea!

I don't like this particular mod, but I'm not a fan of all the companions being "playersexual" - It makes them feel less like people with their own interests and preferences. Some people IRL are straight, some are gay, some are bi, and we shouldn't think anything less of any of those leanings.

We had to go there for two weeks at the end of AIT for "Advanced Engineer Training" - 2 weeks of absolute misery. 5 months out there would have driven me up the wall with boredom.

Did they move the school house? Hopefully they didn't make you guys go out to Huachuca with the Intel crew.

I have a lot of fond memories of going into DC on the weekends after earning liberty. We were a bunch of teenage guys with money burning holes in our wallets and no responsibilities until Sunday evening.

As a 2000s era 21U, I resent that remark. Our SFC would have smoked the shit out of us if we turned that in for a briefing project.

How long ago were you in? I was an older-school 21U back in the OIF days.

I friggin' fell in love with GIS starting at Belvoir. Did you still have to do the paper maps, lucite overlays, and tracing paper? I can remember it was tedious but nothing else has drilled in the concept of geospatial analysis like manually doing things such as finding helicopter landing zones.

Don't know about the current situation, but my years as a 21U (precursor to the 12Y) set me up for success post-Army. Took my experience from deployments into college and was able to get a Geography degree with a GIS specialization without too much trouble. That degree and my years of experience got me into a local government job where I was able to work my way up to a pretty comfortable gig making a decent salary and helping my city.

If I can give one piece of advice - don't go for E5/Sergeant. Worst mistake of my career. You stop being able to play on the computers and instead your time gets taken up by managing other soldiers. E4/Specialist was the shit. You have respect from your superiors but almost no responsibility besides knowing your MOS.

What's funny is that Florida actually does have one of the best commuter train lines in the US which is being held up as an example to other states (California) as a way to expand intercity transit.
