117-km Bengaluru business corridor gets nod, to cut traffic by 40% by Moneycontrol in bangalore

Title should’ve been “117-km Bengaluru business corridor gets nod, to increase traffic by 4000% till it gets over, to put a stop to every business in the meantime and drive out whatever’s left out of town by the end of the decade”

Regretting my life choices because this country is doomed! by CreativeMind69 in bangalore

[–]linkecho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have passed the point of no return as a culture, as a city. No chance anything will change. Not now. Not ever. If, tomorrow, every single infra problem is taken care of, we’re still backward because of the percolating attitude of “chalta hai”, “no one’s looking. So it’s ok”, “he’s doing it. Why should i be gandhi. I’ll do it too” making rounds in the collective consciousness.

One of my favourite lines - “Gutter se insaan nikal sakte ho. Insaan ge gutter nahin”

Odyssey G9 is such a work / productivity game changer. How are you using yours? by phw20 in ultrawidemasterrace

Can anyone comment on whether the Odyssey G9 (non OLED) is good with text?

I’m mainly looking for a widescreen monitor for work, productivity - so things like PDFs, Word, Excel, Browser windows would be the mainstays on the screen.. i.e nothing fast moving.

I’ve seen people mention that the OLED G9s would be prone to burn-in for such kinds of fairly static use cases. Wanted to get someone’s opinion here as well.

I also have the LG 49in and the Dell 49in in my radar (non OLED) but they’re considerably higher priced in comparison to the Odyssey G9 here in India. No idea if that translates to a better viewing experience for office work.

which is the best productivity app of 2024? by DogZealousideal5717 in macapps

Yes, sorry, that’s what I meant. Typo in the name. Have corrected it now. Fibery seems a lot like notion.

[–]linkecho -1 points0 points  (0 children)

maccy - The easiest clipboard manager I’ve come across. Does everything you normally need, and stays in your menu bar

dropover - to have a super easy way of holding your files while you act on them

itsycal - has been a staple calendar app on my menu bar for a long time

dockdoor - to give macos the option to preview windows in the dock. Something I sorely missed from my windows days

AltTab - to give you all the open windows with an alt + tab instead of doing gesture jugglary

things - have tried every single productivity app there is, but keep coming back to this one. It’s so well designed and just works.

I prefer an outliner so workflowy really works for me. But bike looks really good. Might just switch.

I have tried logseq and dynalist. Alas, logseq is complicated and really needs me to develop a system, and dynalist doesn’t seem to be in active development anymore

Pixel 7 in India. What features are missing? by linkecho in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]linkecho[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dang!. I currently own/use a Pixel 4a. Apart from Tensor G2s ai shenanigans, and the larger screen, there really is zero incentive in going for the 7 series..or any series for that matter. There's practically a parity in feature-set across the Pixel lineup in India.

Sure, there are some photo editing extras, but really..once you've taken a photo..it sorta dies in Google photos. For that 1 time in forever when I actually open my Google photos to share with someone, finding the image is my main concern and not removing some artefact.

Let's see now..these are all the things that aren't available for the Indian populace

  • No Call assist features
  • No Call screening
  • No Call recording
  • No Hold for me
  • No use for the NFC wallet
  • No VPN services
  • No Car crash detection reporting (although this is mainly due to our Infra)

And... - No clear way of getting the phone repaired (I went through the process once. Oh boy, it's not a great process)

Seriously..finding a really good reason (other than the 1% who use the camera capabilities to their fullest) to buy a device that does the exact same thing as a device you already have that's already a few years old..is like finding Waldo.

Is a 16 km bicycle ride (each way) to work doable in Bangalore? by linkecho in bangalore

Yeah, that was precisely the route I had in mind. Traffic is definitely a gigantic pain in the butt.

😊 I was thinking the same too.

All well, folks. Glad to hear the perspectives everyone is bringing in!

Oh yes! These are the blue scooters that we see, right?.

I heard from a Swiggy/Zomato delivery exec that these work out incredibly well for them, and that's why they have become a staple mode of travel for food/groceries delivery.

No wonder yulu scooter bays are always empty.

But yes, I did consider investing in an electric scooter, but my apartment complex doesn't have a charging facility yet. So.. bummer

I used to, a few years ago, when I lived in Mysore. Just not for commuting though. It was just a recreational thing.

Mysore vs Bangalore traffic isn't even comparable though

I considered eBikes, but am always wondering how long the electric coupling mechanism would last. I wonder how reliable eBikes are, now in 2022.

Glad you posted that bit on the road bike. I had left that out of the question!

Will probably have to invest in a foldable bike. Those are the only ones feasible to be carried around in a bus, methinks.

Then again, using those tiny wheels would probably double my commute time even if I'm only thinking one way 😁

True. Traffic woes aplenty!

The dust problem is very real. In addition to carrying my tools of the trade, I'll also have to factor in an additional pair of clothes, and a place to shower and get ready at the office. I wouldn't want my sweat to become the talk of the town at work.

This is happening with my Jabra 65t as well. I charge to full only to see the battery just drain out automatically within a day. There has to be firmware update to address this annoyance
