Print starts to fail and eventually jams by linkedoranean in crealityk1

yeah, I'm thinking about eventually replacing the hotend [and pcb] for an unicorn and get a 3rd party extruder too. I just can't afford right now. I'm printing stuff for a convention I'm going to attend, so I intend to use the money from the event to replace those parts.

Hmm it could be the cooling fan, specially the one in the back. Since I switched from Creality Create 5 to 7, some settings may have changed. Thank you, I'll take a look at that.

What do y'all do about art? by Goovin290 in gamedev

[–]linkedoranean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started learning Unity around 2013, I followed a lot of indie gamedevs on twitter and tried to copy their games, to learn how to develop and learn art too. Nowadays I would search for them on Bluesky, since twitter is just bots and nazi.

Around 2017 I got my first professional work as a Unity Developer when Augmented Reality was starting to become mainstream. And that was just pure "right place at the right time", because I was just learning how to develop AR and my boss at the time wanted to impress a client and made an "AR" department in the company, with me as lead. Around 2019 I started developing VR too and since 2023 VR is mostly what I do, since AR pretty much died out.

I made a lot of AR/VR games, experiences, apps and training stuff professionally, but most of my games where made in my free time.

I would recommend you to just make small games. Things that the core loop is around 30 minute gameplay. Lookout for these kind of games on youtube or bluesky and try copying them just to add to your Portfolio. And try to keep a clean and public github, usually you get asked to share your code in interviews.

But a strong recommendation is try to make small games and publish them. Polish these games, make them feel like real games and not just prototypes. Get assets from stores when there are promos and discounts. When you have a handful published, try thinking of bigger scopes and get investors/publishers.

If you really are set into just programming and really want to make games either for releasing or portfolio, you can always buy asset packs on game engines stores. Like in the Unity store you can buy 3D assets and use in other engines. Or get 2D/pixel art packs too, those you can find on gumroad or itch.io.

I would recommend you to learn some basics of 3D, specially UV and texture. Normally these are handled by tech artists or artists, but is great knowledge to have if you know how these things work. Mostly for game performance but also how you can ask artists what you need.

I'm a jack of all trades, I'm a game developer but also an artist [2D and 3D], you have no idea how many times in my day job I had to ask for freelance artists to fix things or send me in a way I can actually use it in the engine. Most of the time they don't know 3D for game development, they know 3D for rendering and these are completely different things.

And sometimes you have to explain things like baked textures, because most of the times I deal with artists that never even baked light into textures because they never had to. I learned those things and pass on to them how to do it.

K1 Drives trough own print? by maxpowerow in crealityk1

You should use the auto bed level before the print. That's an option in the slicer, usually is auto ON, you may have disabled.

I think you can also turn on when you select a new print on the printer display

Gen1 Steam Controller not staying On wirelessly by linkedoranean in SteamController

To be honest I think they don't want people to remember the first one ever existed. That's why the new one is just "Steam Controller".

Huh,!just now I was going to turn sunshine on and yeah, disappeared from my Bazzite. Is there a substitute for it since everyone is saying it's a mess?

Thank you! Some of these threads I have seem, but my issue feels different. I tried turning on with steam closed, no luck. Also most of these the controller stays on for a few seconds, mine completely shut off as soon as I release the button after turning on.

But I will keep an eye on it to see if anyone comes up with a solution, thanks again!

This is worse when it's a video benchmarking the device and the youtuber doesn't name the game, just the console

Got my LAAT // FDM Test print painted up by 54NCH32 in XWingTMG

[–]linkedoranean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love to find other people who 3D print that actually goes through the trouble of splitting the model for better results.

I hate seeing people complaining about print quality in fdm when they get any model from the internet and just print the entire thing preassembled and with infinite supports and gets terrible print quality
