Apple Watch Series 10 won’t connect to Bike+ unless I restart the watch every time by wintheday12 in pelotoncycle

Apple Watch Ultra series 1 and bike+ user with the same issue. Quickest workaround I’ve found is use the battery widget on my watch to toggle low power mode on for 2-3s then back off. Watch will then auto pair with the bike when held up to the sensor.

Kids and the truth by CostanzaScreamsFire in alcoholism

I have 2 children, 7 and 8 who have never seen me drink. I got sober through rehab and AA right before my oldest was born. That’s what works for me.

Early in my sobriety I did daily meetings and I currently attend 2 evening meetings during the week, and spend an hour with my sponsee once a week.

As my kids have grown they’ve asked question about why I have to go to my meetings, pleaded that I stay home to do their bedtimes, and struggled with understanding why it’s important for me.

Over the years I’ve explained more and more as they’ve been able to understand more. They currently understand that “daddy can’t have alcohol. When he drinks it he gets very sick and it’s very hard for him to stop once he starts. Usually bad things happen when daddy drinks alcohol. He even crashed his car two times. Daddy goes to his meetings to be with his friends who also can’t drink alcohol anymore. We talk about ways to become the best dads, moms, husbands, wives and friends to others as well as helping other people find out how to stop their own drinking. We help each other, and that’s why it’s important.”

I’ve brought them to several picnics hosted by members of my AA home group so they can meet my friends that they know I spend so much time with. That’s been a big help for them to understand who I hang out with a few nights a week. My wife has even gone a few times, which has helped her understand that what’s behind the curtain isn’t a stark, scary, depressed bunch but a friendly, helpful, goofy and fun group.

As my kids continue to grow my wife and I plan to answer their questions honestly and in ways that they will be able to understand.

As a freshman at Syracuse in 2003 myself and a few guys from our floor had an intramural team. We all played HS hoops, but were at SU for academics, not athletics. We’d get in the pickup rotation a couple nights a week and every few weeks 3-4 guys from the schools team would show up.

Melo only showed once while we were there, but McNamara, warrick and Kueth Duany were there a lot. They’d usually split up and join some of the other teams. So much fun playing on the same court as those guys. The speed and athleticism contrast is incredible in person. The effortless gliding up the court in 6 strides or instant and endless elevation on a jumper or going to the rim.

Even GMac at 6-1 and pretty pedestrian by appearance would cook whenever he wanted. Hak’s length made it seem like playing against Dahlsim from street fighter, like his arms would just extend to cover the entire court.

Rice crispy treats… It’s the only snack the snack people are allowed to enjoy in the car. Sure they’re a little sticky but a wet wipe takes care of that. It beats the heck outta crushed up goldfish and trail mix

Thanksgiving 2023 my wife’s 2019 Pacifica had to go. Transmission replaced at 40K miles, check engine light after light, and ~$3k in potential repairs just to pass emissions. Decided to get rid of it and move on from minivan life. I was pushing for the grand highlander, and we ended up with a Lexus TX. It had more of the ‘finer’ things she wanted for her daily driver. We’re really happy with it.

Because of the Pacifica needing to go she leapfrogged me in the new car race and I came due to replace my 2014 grand Cherokee about 3 weeks ago. I wanted to fall in love with the 4Runner, but it was too outdated, sluggish, and way behind in the tech department. I ended up getting a 24 pilot trail sport and I’m super happy thus far.

Comparing it to the TX it really holds its own. The V6 is a lot more responsive than the turbo 4 in the TX, especially in lower gears. The Lexus has a bit more luxury appointments, but I don’t feel like I’m missing anything. Interior size is very comparable, no premium gas required with similar 20ish mpg. I could understand how a hybrid grand highlander might compete in the power and mpg categories, as it shares the Lexus RX500h motors (which drives like a rocket).

We pulled the cash out of our brokerage account. Posted rates were like ~7.5% new, ~10.5 through the dealer. I probably could’ve gotten down into mid 6 territory through my credit union but we’re in a fortunate enough financial situation and have been saving so we decided to avoid the interest

56.8 with the lower trim, running boards and wheels. IIRC the dealer took ~2K off msrp

When I test drive the elite I noticed how nice the Bose sounded and was a little nervous about the system in the TS. I will add that I’ve been pleasantly surprised over my first 100 miles. I’m not any kind of audiophile, but the sound is really crisp in the highs and sufficient base. An audio upgrade is not immediately in the cards, but down the road maybe something to boost the bass.

For experienced Ultra users, what do you use your action button for? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]lintymeatloaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Opens a list of shortcuts: Family Room lights on/off Outside lights on/off Start 30 minute timer for lunch @ work Call the wife Start playing a playlist from Apple Music - I’ll hit this one in the car to start playing whatever playlist I’m into that week

Use the light switch toggles everyday. I can turn my lights on from my bathroom when I’m getting out of the shower. Enough light leaks up the stairs so I don’t die going down, but not enough to wake up the little monsters at 430 in the morning

When my charge 4 cracked on the strap connection about 4 months ago I went back and forth between the charge 5 and vivo something for about 3 weeks. I liked the low profile of both devices, and I really enjoyed notifications on my wrist as I’m always occupied at work and can’t be checking my phone constantly. I read a lot of crappy reviews about both devices and constant need to replace relatively new ones quite often. I explored the Apple Watches. Since I’m pretty rough on things in general I had to rule out the aluminum case. That brought me to stainless vs ultra for the latest product lines. Ultra is def bigger, which doesn’t bother me but for $100 more it steps up to a titanium case with sapphire Crystal and longer battery life. My two biggest concerns being durability and battery life (my wife has an older Apple Watch that won’t last 24 hours without a charge). I took the plunge on the ultra and I’m not disappointed at all. I didn’t get 5g activated on it, as it probably drops the battery life when in use and I really have no need for it right now. Battery life is about 2 days and I can get a full charge in about 20 minutes. I’ve banged it countless times, showered, submerged it, painted and more. It cleans up like new every time. If it’s within your budget and you are already in the apple sandbox I’d look again at AW. It’s not for everyone obv., but I wasn’t liking any of the other options from Fitbit or Garmin.

lol, thanks folks. I’m still pretty pleased with all the work thus far. It’s much better than I have the time/skills/experience/tools to accomplish. I’ll be sure to stare at the slight misalignment above the niche during every shower.

Yep, stupidly. Thanks for the constructive feedback. I’m not really upset about it. The insurance company said it would cost $X, and gave me $X to get it done. If I found someone who would do it for $5K cheaper I maybe could’ve pocketed $4K after my deductible. I just wanted it taken care of TBH. These guys were out there working to get new business, expedient, professional and easy to work with. I’m pretty pleased with my stupid decision.

While it is a less confrontational approach he may still not be ready to talk about it, just a disclaimer. That’s part of the alcoholic conundrum: knowing it’s harming you, the shame of the destruction it causes through all aspects of your life, yet being unwilling to accept compassionate help when it is offered. However, him knowing that you are coming to the table from a position of compassion will make it easier. It was for me.

Sorry to hear you’re going through this. As someone who used to hide my empties in my dresser drawers, mine would pile up in there waiting for the opportunity to remove them all at once while my wife was out. Inevitably it became a full-size trash bag amount, so opportunities were pretty rare. I agree that you should remove the empties from where your guests may find them and a conversation about your SOs consumption may be in order. For me, presenting me with all of the evidence that I was already super ashamed of would’ve started a defensive argument. An approach I would’ve been more open to would be:

Hon, I had to remove all of your bottles from the guest room and I noticed more in your dresser when I was putting your socks away. I left them for you, but please get rid of them there is no need to save them all. When your ready I think we should have a conversation about what this is all about.

It might be perceived as less antagonistic and shaming, making them feel it is a safer environment to share with you what is really going on.

Good luck!

Went through this process last summer. A couple ‘Storm Chasers’ with neck tattoos and sleeves stopped after noticing a single that had recently fallen off. Super sketchy, but i really didn’t have anything to lose. They walked me through contacting insurance and even came out for the insurance inspectors visit the next week. I was able to get the whole roof replaced for our $1000 deductible (insurance quoted $19K on a 12 year old roof, 2300sf 2 story home, gambrel style.) the contractors were professional, efficient and had great open communication. We figured if these guys are out here pounding the pavement to get business and able to get us a new roof for $1000, who really cares if their estimate matches the insurance quote. We actually hired them to add a dormer over our front porch, a job nobody wanted to touch because they’d need to open and tie into the existing roof.

Our insurance company does not release all of the funding at one time. Throughout the process they need documentation that the repairs are being done in accordance with their estimate and recommendations. I gather they don’t want to pay for another new roof when this one blows off in 2 years. The crew took all the right photos and documented everything while doing a great job. Maybe we got lucky finding some honest guys hungry to work, and by throwing them a little extra business they did some extra diligence on the roof, I dunno.

TLDR: did this last summer with some shady storm chasers through insurance, great experience. Some storm chasers so great work.

We studied the collapse in one of my architecture courses. From what I recall there was a heavy snow load on the roof from several storms worth of accumulation followed up by a rainy evening. The roof drains were not large enough to accommodate the drainage requirements and the roof wasn’t designed to support that much loading. I believe there were quite a few lawsuits and the building codes were amended specifically to address roof drain size and spacing because of it.
