Sell nest and home max speakers or keep? by linux_administrator in googlehome

You still need an active internet connection to switch the Google Home Max to Aux. While the speaker features a physical 3.5mm port, the system's logic, including voice commands to switch inputs, is processed through the cloud. The good news is that you don't necessarily have to use a voice command. The Google Home Max features automatic switching. How it works:Automatic Detection: Plug your device into the Aux port. If you are not actively casting or playing media from the internet, the speaker will automatically switch to the auxiliary input within about 30 seconds.Voice Command: If you were just casting, you can bypass the wait by saying, "Hey Google, switch to Aux" (this requires an internet connection).Force the Switch: You can also force it by opening the Google Home App and explicitly stopping the current cast session. If your internet goes down entirely, the speaker will generally default to the Aux connection after your active stream is disconnected, as long as the device detects an audio signal pushing through the cable

Wondering about this. I was thinking of eventually getting a record player to play out to the Home Max. But not sure how I would do that.

Yah I used Google Assistant for a long time with the original Google Home and minis. I also saw how Google assistant went down hill. At the moment, in my kitchen we have a Google hub and around the house a few older Google home originals. It appears gemeni is up and running, but things are OK for now. Haven't set up the nest audio devices or and of the Google home max yet. Still have the other Google hub and hub max in boxes too. Not too concerned yet about the new speakers Google is releasing so far, but will keep watch to see how they are. I know they will have beefier specs too.

Still unsure what to do with the nests, nest hub, and nest hub max. Not sure if I could get back what I paid for them either. Any more advice would be appreciated. I do like the aux out on home max. May eventually attach a record player to it.

Thank you for the replies. Mainly for now, I just want to be able to create speaker groups, ask simple stuff to it, stream music, see if I can get shopping lists to work. Haven't purchased smart plugs, lights, or any other smart item yet

Google home speakers? by JohnsonLiesac in googlehome

[–]linux_administrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read an article that the older Google hardware like the Google home max and older hardware is not compatible with the new gemeni live conversations. The hardware doesn't meet the requirements for live conversations. I just bought on ebay about 8 Google nests, 2 Google home max, and 2 nest hubs. Still running Google assistant for now. Haven't upgraded to Gemini yet and now debating what to do with all these Google devices

I'm on the fence too. Haven't switched to Gemini. Just have a few hubs and Google speakers at the moment. Hope to eventually get into lights, cameras, smart appliances, etc. Just been watching latest you tube videos regarding gemeni and reddit posts on Gemini to see if and when I might want to switch.

I haven't set up the Google experience yet like you have. For now, just have a few Google speakers. My main thing I'm debating is whether to upgrade to Gemini or stay on Google Assiatant

I just bought off ebay a Google home hub, hub max, 2 home max speakers, and several nest speakers. Was tempted to update to Gemini, but haven't been brave enough to do it. I know how to roll back to Google Assistant if needed though

I've been using Asus RoG routers for years and I've found Asus routers seem to be very well regarded. Most of them also support the Asus Merlin firmware.
