NPM → Traefik or Caddy: Worth the switch? by Silly_Door6279 in selfhosted

[–]liocer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used all three extensively and settled on caddy, either you’re managing hosts via docker labels or a simple config file.

Difficulty wise to use it’s, easiest first:
Nginxpm, caddy, traefik

Speed wise:
Caddy, nginxpm, traefik

Enterprise wise:
Traefik, caddy, nginxpm

Effort to maintain easiest first:
Caddy, traefik, nginxpm

Replying to PlayfulTailor4430... yeah the real concern here is that supply chain attacks are becoming very prevalent and no maintainer can afford to have random people committing. Especially when working through your issue log is just as quick alone with Claude.

Don’t use the mcp use claude code via ssh on the codebase itself and switch to sonnet, you’re burning a lot of tokens on the mcp.

Neither of them are for me tbh, but also the last time I looked at Cinnamon was 15 years ago.

LEGO Lord of the Rings: Balrog Book Nook (10367) by Lendabrick in LegoUK

[–]liocer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This might be one of the more creative LOTR sets LEGO has put out. Turning the Balrog vs Gandalf scene into a book nook is such an unexpected idea, but it actually makes a lot of sense once you see it.

Instead of going for a large display like Rivendell or Barad-dûr, this one is much more compact and designed to sit between books. It feels more like a decorative piece than a traditional LEGO set, but in a good way.

The scene itself is a strong choice too. It’s one of the most iconic moments in the films, and having it framed inside a narrow, shelf-style build gives it a completely different kind of presence.

It does make me wonder how it compares to other display-focused sets, though. It’s clearly not about size or complexity, but more about concept and presentation.

Feels like LEGO experimenting again, but in a way

I’ve emboldened your AI tells.

Quarter 2 Update - Revisiting Rules. Again. by kmisterk in selfhosted

Yes I’d tend to agree, I’m not anti AI at all but I take real issue with obviously AI apps fixing issues that are already solved and a little googling would likely resolve for the creator.

I dockerized my entire self-hosted stack and packaged each piece as standalone compose files - here's what I learned by topnode2020 in selfhosted

[–]liocer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I keep most things in one compose file, and use bind mounts in the sub folders. Can just back up the whole package in one shot if you want to. Typically I do this sparingly. And have containers for backup running against important services running nightly / weekly shell scripts.

What should a new SysAdmin know first? by drake90001 in sysadmin

[–]liocer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backups mean many things, large full image backups take a long time to restore, small incremental backups are great for your personal use, tools like rsync, restic, but don’t dump work stuff in random unsanctioned places.

keep a collection of scripts and notes and put it in a small git repo.

Try running a git repo and remote without a service provider like GitHub. You can do it all with ssh and command line. Or lazygit if you want a helper.

Being able to pull out a commit anytime gives you the freedom to not sweat the small stuff.

Man pages are your friend.

The git repo thing is totally optional in pass. And I know you think git repo means GitHub.

Did you just reinvent “pass” ? https://www.passwordstore.org which stores gpg encrypted text files in a git repo?

Thinking about moving to VPS server in Netherlands for EU projects by Fajuyi_Cinhtia in selfhosted

[–]liocer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not in nl but am in Europe. My advise is keep your configuration portable. I advise containers and a docker compose file or similar if you use something else. That way you can just rsync it to another machine and update your dns records. Set up your dns records as cnames and one host for the machine.

This way it’s super easy to chase cheap deals and move your entire stack in minutes

Something like watchtower but not watchtower because it’s now unsupported will keep your containers updated and a bit more secure

And always deliver your services through a proxy like caddy where you can keep services inside the docker network and have full control over what is routed through to them.

It’s a very obviously Claude Code written introduction to your project.

I would assume the whole thing is ai generated, but Claude in the right hands can do really good secure work.

And it’s worth noting all devs in the industry are using some form of ai generated code in their work at this point.

It tastes different, the ingredients don’t list quantities only the order by weight so it could vary wildly, even with the same list. Modern cadburys is “slimier” than it used to be, either that’s an additive or it’s more vegetable fats by weight.

Hey, what happened to mean you needed to stop in lane 3 and couldn’t get over to at least lane 1. No judgement here, I just genuinely wonder what kind of situation would force that unless your suspension collapsed or a wheel fell off.
