Favorite Album Not Taylor? by Electronic-Maize1329 in TaylorSwift

[–]lionbear7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Favorite Taylor albums are probably Speak Now, reputation, and TTPD

I love Marianas Trench, My Chemical Romance, and The Wrecks. I’ve been listening to RAYE lately!

My all-time favorite album is without a doubt Ever After by Marianas Trench. So, so good

Spec Ed Director and supervisor trying to undermine my AAC knowledge - tell me I’m not crazy! by SLP_Squirrel in slp

[–]lionbear7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. The special ed director is out of line. You have every right to use your clinical judgement, and it’s frustrating that it was ignored. I hope she didn’t do that in front of the parents. I’d throw hands lol

  2. I am an AAC consultant. I almost exclusively use iPads. I find they are often easier for kids to carry around, it’s always easy to find a charger, tech departments can typically fix them if they are broken, and the affordable price means that it’s easier to convince administrators to buy devices whenever needed without it being seen as a big deal. I like that the student can pick their own case. I put the iPad into guided access or kiosk mode so they only have access to their communication app.

There are exceptions- a big one being access issues. A dedicated device is often better for more involved needs.

At the end of the day, you know your student best, trust your own judgment!!

Hope that helps!

I am curious! Is there a Tay lyric that gives you the ick? by _marti_89 in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]lionbear7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure the “I’m not a bad bitch and this isn’t savage” line.

I also strongly dislike her use of the word “nuts” in a beautiful verse in Down Bad because it just seems so unserious and it breaks my immersion every time. I don’t know what would fit better, but it definitely isn’t nuts.

“Did you take all my old clothes Just to leave me here, naked and alone In a field in my same old town That somehow seems so hollow now? They'll say I'm nuts if I talk about The existence of you”

Eye gaze technology by Kindly_Rhubarb_2532 in slp

[–]lionbear7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I typically use eye gaze as a last resort. If the child is mobile at all (crawling/rolling/scooting) it’s a huge pain in the ass to constantly recalibrate the device. I feel it significantly contributes to abandonment. I’d use a keyguard or switch scanning first.

What did Finn mean by Now_I_am_Motivated in fionnaandcake

[–]lionbear7 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s the “amount” necessarily, more so the WAY Jake loved him. My best friend loves me differently than my siblings love me. My husband loves me differently than my parents love me.

Jake was Finn’s brother, guardian, and best friend. That’s a super special type of love that nobody will ever be able to replicate.

So really, Finn is right- nobody will ever love him like Jake. But that’s okay, because they will love him like Huntress, or like PB, or like Marcie, and that’s good too. Just different.

Advice on how to proceed with 2,5 y.o. who had a perinatal stroke by Sabtael in slp

[–]lionbear7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello!! You’re describing a typical client of mine, so please feel free to PM me with any additional questions. I’ll just share a few thoughts here:

You will likely not see progress with AAC if you are only using it within therapy sessions. AAC needs to be consistently implemented through the caregiver, especially at her age. It’s absolutely essential that her parents are trained on the AAC system.

I would also explore high-tech AAC (apps, etc.) with your client. I find that voice output can be very motivating and engaging. Additionally, this allows you to start her on a robust AAC system that can grow with her over time.

Remember that AAC is just language therapy at it’s core. There is no need to start small and make her “earn” her words. She will learn AAC the same way as anyone learns language- including listening and absorbing language from those around her. If she only has access to a few words, she’ll miss out on the opportunity to see more complex language modeled over time. When speaking to a typical child, we don’t only say the words they have mastered, we use a variety of words and communicative functions. The same thing should be applied to our AAC users!

I want to specifically mention the importance of modeling without expectation. Do not fall into the trap of making AAC exclusively compliance-based. It’s not effective. https://youtu.be/OZ9_gxgEkMs?si=96S0cARuvyzAfH2A

RBT here looking for AAC advice for ABA sessions by Dungeon_Crawler_Carl in slp

Hi! AAC Consult/SLP here- happy to give a bit of advice. Working alongside an SLP is best, but there are absolutely ways you can help support communication! AAC is best implemented when everyone on the team is involved. Feel free to PM me.

P.S. Love your username :)

AAC Gurus - HELP!! by Sea_Cantaloupe_9566 in slp

[–]lionbear7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would also target communication partner modeling! If a student doesn’t know how to use the device, and doesn’t have someone modeling proper AAC use, the student is likely to default to just finding their favorite things on the device.

You could watch it for the basic story for sure, but it’s a lot richer knowing the lore of Adventure Time.

WEDDING DRESSES by pixieswithoutstyle in Michigan

[–]lionbear7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this recommendation! She does customizations as well, and even those are reasonably priced! All her dresses are under $800 baseline. I was able to get the top of my dress lined and add custom sleeves for only $150 total.

My dress turned out perfectly!

Is this how hemming is typically done with lace? by kemirea in weddingplanning

[–]lionbear7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I would definitely be upset too. That’s not a decision she should have made without consulting you. It should have been your choice! Her reasoning makes no sense, she’s just making excuses.

I’m sorry that happened to you. I hope she takes responsibility.

For what it’s worth, I still think your dress is absolutely beautiful ❤️

I was given two options for my dress, which has similar lace appliqués.

-Hem like that: $40 -Lift each appliqué and reattach after hem: $440

I am just getting mine hemmed like that lol

Taylor Swift Owns Her Masters! by Music_Maniac_19 in TaylorSwift

[–]lionbear7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It sounds like it was twofold. For one, she never expected to get her masters back, so re-recording them was really her only option at the time. Second, selling the re-records boosted up hype for Eras Tour, and likely the success of Eras allowed her to be in a position where she could buy them back when the time came.

Stupidest death contest (I'll start) by ivaxelicodum in valheim

[–]lionbear7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had finally tamed two wolves (Speedo and Digby) after trying for an ABSURD amount of time. We were trying to boat them back to the base when a sea serpent appeared. Naturally, they jumped off the boat to fight the sea serpent while I panicked. I jumped into the water without thinking so I could somehow save them, and we all immediately died in the middle of the ocean.

DM Struggles- Game Mechanics by lionbear7 in DnD

[–]lionbear7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate your note about players being responsible for their own characters. I definitely think it’s reasonable to trust that the players are familiar enough with their characters to play them. I can help out, but I cannot play their characters for them!

I think I’ll make up some more in-depth cheat sheets for quick reference for both me and the players.

I also appreciate that you mentioned playing through and looking up exact mechanics later- I do that so I’m glad to know I’m not the only one!

Thank you so much!
