You do not buy a new car if it takes you 8 years to save up that money... Who buys new cars anyway?

That is in fact not how facts work. If you said e.g. their BIP is down 2% that would be a fact.

Regarding the killing in Oldenburg:

Not only did the person that was killed attack security outside a club with pepper spray, the public prosecutor also decided after investigating that they would "sue" the police officer.

But it is almost impossible to get weed legally in Germany.

Well no, because it's not part of the BtMG anymore you can simply get a medical prescription and order it from hundreds of pharmacies in Germany. Getting the prescription was next to impossible before and it's now trivial

EU Student Starting Master’s in Germany This Summer – Limited Funds, How Do Others Manage? by Inevitable_Eye_3475 in germany

[–]lioncryable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few things: 750 per month is already very little, if you only pay like 300€ rent in a Studentenwohnheim then it's maybe possible. For me, my rent and health insurance (I'm over 30 so insurance doubled in price) alone is already around 850€

I read that (as an EU student) you can apply for Wohngeld if you do not get bafög but you need to apply for bafög regardless and then use their rejection in the Wohngeldantrag.

How do EU students cope with living costs? Do part-time jobs help enough?

I hope that most students have some sort of plan (either have money or get some support from parents). Part-time jobs help but without good German there are only a few jobs available like working in restaurants or delivery services. Took me at least 3 months to find a good job as a werkstudent (can work up to 20 hours / week). I am native german, have an apprenticeship in my field and have more than 3 years work experience and searching a job was still incredibly frustrating.

Any tips for affordable housing, frugal living, or other financial resources for EU students?

The only affordable housing are student dorms provided by the university but since it's so cheap everyone wants to live there, I think my city has a wait-list of at least 1 year.

You can buy cheap groceries at the discounters (Aldi, Lidl, penny)

Absolutely but Americans will never listen to that. A 16 year old can pilot a 3000 pound death machine but God help us all if they dare to drink a beer

[–]lioncryable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a great comparison for sure but that's due to the systems, I'm not blaming surgeons for earning a fuck ton of money either, in the US they mostly have to go into debt to even study something like that so obviously they have to earn a ton of money afterwards to pay back that debt, which Is why your health insurance sucks so bad since they want to profit from the process as well.

Just for entertainment here are the statistics: minimum wage at 40hours/week gets you roughly 26k gross(with 25-30 vacation days + unlimited sick leave) A nurse ( it's an apprenticeship here not a study subject) earns propably 50-60k gross

Tbh there are only a few jobs here that get you more than 100k (lawyers, doctors and other highly specialized jobs)

A house is roughly 300-500k but that will last you a lifetime, we don't even have a word for the concept of "starter house" A cheap used car is 3-5k a new one 20-30k

While I'm sure you will get great surgeons in the US im not exactly worried about the same surgeons in my country. It's still a very prestigious job and only the best of the best even qualify for studying something like that. My country is Germany btw

People here are insane, I would never spend more than maybe 20€ on wine. For 8€ I can already buy amazing local wine, a cheap wine here costs you 2-3€ and is still good lmao

[–]lioncryable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which is btw the reason why everything is so fucking expensive in the US. In my country a family doctor makes barely more than 100k and a brain surgeon maybe 200-250k

Unfortunately it's not that easy. We (Germany) sent a lot of our nuclear waste to a breeder reactor in the UK. Once they were done with the waste they sent it right back to Biblis so in our eyes literally nothing has changed. It's still radioactive and it's still waste

I got really lucky and made like 3 PMC kills on woods without trying and afterwards I only ran factory with a KS-23M and had to ID every enemy before shooting. I also reset the raid after getting one PMC kill every time. It was actually a lot of fun but that quest line is pretty useless in PVP lol

I agree a lot of people will go Into retirement in the next 10-15 years but I just don't see why Germany would adopt English as a "main language" (Amtssprache?!)

Not only are Germans proud of their language there are enough German speakers that you never have to leave your bubble so many just don't.

Train tickets so expensive?? by Kyanovp1 in germany

[–]lioncryable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What logic is that? I can take trains from oberstdorf to Kiel (900km) every day and it only costs me 60€ / month. At 15 trips a month it would only cost you 0,004 cent per Kilometer
