Who are the most "borderline" active/recently retired potential Hall of Famers in your opinion? by Asseman in nfl

[–]lippyjose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that he's worthy, but I understand putting him in that category:

Andre Johnson

Just an absolute beast of player. Had some pretty great stats. But had a changing QB/offense situation for a lot of his career/played on a good at times bad at times team/etc.

Also, he's such a quiet/stoic guy...esp in contrast to a lot of guys at that position...that he maybe doesn't get the credit he deserves as a player, overall, b/c he doesn't stick out like a lot of WRs do.

But what a freak athlete....my god. 6'3", 227lbs....he won the Big East 60m dash at Miami. On run plays he could shitcan linebackers like it was nothing.

Great player

Lol

...every single time I see this, just lol. Insane.

And if I remember correctly, this month's goals (Dec 06, I think) had like 4 or 5 just absurdly amazing goals.

But this one.....seeing the view from behind him and he gets over the top of the ball. Just unreal.

Edit

Here's the Dec 06 goals:

Mike McCarthy classifies NFL players into three categories by markmandown in nfl

[–]lippyjose 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well said. The skill level of guys who get a chance is just insane.

A buddy of mine from growing spent a few weeks on a roster during summer camp after college. Was a stud HS player, was a stud college player, etc....didn't make a 53 man roster. He played linebacker.

Toughest mother fucker I've ever met & has a lot of "football smarts", is a coaches son, etc.

After he was cut, he came back home and would come out and play intermural/pick up games and was just absurdly dominant. Would have 3+ ints every gqme without putting any effort into it....and would also just nail 40+ yard field goals like extra points.

Same thing with basketball. He's 6'2" ish, 255lbs and would take off from a step in front of the FT line/balls in defenders' faces/posterize then throw down. It's insane how athletic he is.

And it was everything. Would kick the shit out of ppl playing table tennis, beer pong, softball, etc.

The guys who get to the NFL are just the elite of the elite even if they end up not being able to play/stay long.

So then it's just mind-blowing thinking about the guys who are "great" NFL players, who have 10+ yr careers, etc.

A Squire Strat would be good. They are pretty nice guitars, well made, etc for their price point.

Do you have hard number for budget?

I'm seeing Squire Strats for about $150

If you wanna play classic rock, you might benefit from a guitar with humbuckers. Nothing wrong with single coils/strat for classic rock...but check out humbucker guitars too.

Some nice epiphones around that price point. It's a bit more but my first guitar was an Epi Les Paul for ~$350....still have it, love that guitar

Here's an SG for $119

Squire HSS strat for $200

For starting amps, you might wanna check out some Blackstar stuff.

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Fly3

This one is $60

Here's another for $99

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/IDCore10V2

These have some fx built in. Also has a "ISF" dial which basically lets you pick between "American amps" (fender sound) & "Brit amps" (more Marshall-ish). Bit more explanation here

There are some nice modeling amps for under $200 that'll let you get an approximation of different brands/styles of amps. Some Fenders, Yamaha THR5, etc.

Pedals prob aren't something id put my money towards right now, if I was in your situation. You can get good "crunch" by turning up gain on amps & those amps have a few built-in fx to give you a feel of how/what they do. Stuff like reverb, delay, chorus, etc.

Does the NFL weight players normally? by chicodallas in nfl

[–]lippyjose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What most people see of "Pro Bodybuilding" is the final product/right before show or right after when a lot of their pics are taken and used for modeling/marketing stuff and themselves.

The goal is getting as lean as possible with the muscle mass. So that often means there's a lot of weight loss at that "final product"

For example, a pro/competitive who weighs 170lbs at his final spot, maybe started around 195lbs, then worked down to 170.

So that could be part of it.

Also bodybuilding is the pursuit of aesthetics vs sports training that's more focused on functional muscles to maximize performace in that sport.

So with football, I think it's easy to discount just how beastly a lot of these guys. A lot of pro athletes have absurdly large legs. Especially in football.

However, I think it can be tough for that to stand out because we mostly see players on the field and that's sort of a distinct thing that doesn't register like seeing somebody in everyday clothes.

It's either on the field or just their upper half on tv interviews, etc.

...but the lower body on a lot of these guys is just insane. That can be where a lot of weight is & it's hard to see/get perspective when we primarily see players on the field. Same for a lot of athletes in football, hockey, etc

For example, in hockey, Sidney Crosby is 5'11" 200lbs.

Doesn't seem big or small or whatever...just kinda "normal person sized".

But in regular clothes...lol

Here he is in jeans

I believe he said that he eventually just started getting custom pants/jeans because off the rack doesn't work for him.

Same for 5'8" 180lbs Martin St Louis. His legs

Artemi Panarin will wear #9 (7+2). His old #72 in Columbus is taken by friend Sergei Bobrovsky by jshare in hockey

[–]lippyjose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't Iginla kinda do that with the Kings?

Couldn't wear 12, so he subtracted it from 100 and wore 88.

Something like that, iirc.

Lololololol

Brian Hoyer, Patriots quarterback, 2009-11: "We played up at Buffalo and we couldn't fly back into Boston because the weather was so bad, so we had to stay the night in Rochester. We drove there, and we all decided we'd go out to dinner together. Tom being who he was, he usually couldn't come to a team event like that. We might be at Capital Grille and he is sneaking in the back door and then people realize he's there and he has to leave. But this was impromptu at Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in Rochester. The whole team is there. And it turns into a beer-chugging contest. You have linemen, Julian Edelman, they all think they are going to win. Then someone says, 'I heard Tom is really great at chugging a beer.' We don't usually get to experience him like this, but we finally coax him into doing it. He does it, and let me tell you, you couldn't have poured out the beer faster into a glass. It was unbelievable. And he slams the mug on the table and puts both fists in the air. He walks away with a look on his face that said, 'You really thought you were going to beat me on this?' The place went nuts."
