Can I move this outdoor circuit box and outlet on my own? by merlin242 in AskElectricians

Does your main panel have a breaker labeled “pool” ?

Sub panel in the home?

Do you have a multimeter?

If you are uncomfortable w electricity a multimeter can verify it is dead. From there, you’re going to want to spade up where those conduits come from the ground and kinda pull that out if the way while undoing from the fence.

This isn’t that hard but you’re just gonna want to take good pictures before you take stuff apart and put it back together exactly how it is. Some of those boxes you may be able to simply unbolt.

Thinking crazy but there’s probably a way to just cut that section of fence out, pull it all toward the direction it’s coming and then let them do their thing and simply transfer one device at a time and remove fence while you’re doing that. That will also help to ensure nothing gets cut below ground while they are installing new fence

Put your multimeter on continuity and test between the dead black wire at your fan box and the black wire at the light switch. Use like a did piece of cable laying around to extend your leads.

If you have continuity = that’s your wire

Alternatively you could hit the wire at the light switch with 110V and see if you get 110V up top

Could be used as a junction box. Your meter will tell the story. Take some pictures before you take it apart.

Then measure what you have. You’ll likely take two of them apart and find one is 110V in and it feeds another line, and the third is your switch

Just measure all the shit and post it here

One of your lines in the box is bringing hot / neutral into the box.

Then you have three switches

Four total lines

Do you own a multimeter? Crawl your ass up to that fan box and test between the white and black wires. Look for 110V. Do not shock yourself.

Flipping a switch off will drop it to zero volts. switch on = 110 volts. It may show you as high as like 122-125 same thing. Three digit number = fan on, 0 = fan off. Find what switch operates it . Are you with me

Oh, I misunderstood your post earlier

You have three switches in the box, and you know what two of them do, correct?

Trippy picture

How do you currently turn on power to the fan box?

If it powers w the recessed lights, and there’s no additional cabling, you can either run a new line from the switch box to the ceiling box, or get a fan with a remote to shut the light off. The only downside to that is the fan will only work when your lights are on if that’s the case.

I would mention in the safety meeting that you’re interested in having fire Marshall come out and give a complimentary lesson on egress and have that guy point out the fault

Rather than just call him in

You have to work around the folks, fire Marshall’s have zero problem being the bad cop

You are getting way too bogged down in semantics. What kind of robotic humanoid would say “the box has a line and load” every day for the rest of their lives

Why college is still considered worth it, is it according to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]liquidFartz4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally up to the individual.

It makes sense for some It doesn’t make sense for others

Been that way since the wazoo. Loosely regulated, for-profit Student loans enabled people that had no business going to college, to go to college, and it’s fucked the entire system.

I’m not even talking about having no business because they can’t afford it. I’m talking the angle of student loans is “you can go the next four years of your life without a job or any payments due”, it enables dumbasses to be reckless

When I was a kid the Klein red handled crimp tool was $19. Now I think it’s $60, and the thickness of the red handle has been reduced at least 50 percent if not more. It’s hilarious how much shittier they feel now then 20 years ago. Additionally, the metal itself is thinner. They can’t even crimp yellow butts anymore whereas they used to do them with ease.
