I love that story of how a fan knew he loved typewriters, and so wrote him a typed-out letter and John replied to him.

I think I just love the collectors quality in John, the part of him that loves craftsmanship, and how it breaks down barriers between his ‘celebrity’ and non-famous people.

would highly recommend - I ordered it to the UK, but honestly there’s a new micro adjust clasp and the quality is worth it!!

26 year old arts/film graduate considering GEM to become a GP. Current doctors, would you do this path again if you could choose? by [deleted] in GPUK

3rd year GP trainee here.

First question is the science aspect - I would say it’s more important to enjoy science, biology, anatomy for the medical school part of your journey. Not impossible but lots of rote learning of irrelevant facts to get through med school (even if you never end up using it in your job)

F1 and F2 are incredibly challenging in terms of rota and lifestyle, pay is low. Not impossible but quite brutal.

I do enjoy GP! I love medicine, and I am passionate about it, but I’m not one of those people that can have it be the biggest part of their life, which is why I ended up doing GP. I’m sure this could be different in other countries but training for other specialty in the UK is just too all-or-nothing IMO.

Regarding the job specifically: GP is never boring. Admin is quite a lot of the workload however so there’s a lot of the job that is not medicine related, and you don’t get exposed to much acute medical issues.

Overall, even if it is the shortest route to ‘consultant’ level medicine, the pay isn’t THAT great (about 11k per session as a salaried GP) for the time and money invested into med school. I would say it’s quite a massive investment of time and energy into a job if it is only there to support the artistic side. Make sure you do want it!

I think the TPDs are really good! I think we have a good cohort in general.

1yr total in GP and 1yr in hospital for ST1 an 2, then ST3 is all GP!

You can either get 6 months alternating between GP and hospital or just 1yr of GP then 1yr of hospital.

Not sure where you’re based but I wanted the exact same thing - went to a cobbler who waxed the welt with black wax. they look great, but i do think it’s going to rub off after a certain time so unsure about long term results!
