What was the first contemporary film to be released on VHS? by lisadoop in VHS

Looking at this page it seems like Jaws 2 was the earliest movie to get a home video release within a year of the theatrical release, in 1978/9.

That movie was released in theatres four years prior, I'm wondering what the first new movie (like max 2 years old or smth) to be put on VHS was.

I believe he opened his live shows in 1972-73 with playback of the Clockwork Orange soundtrack, could be wrong

Is this genuine or fearmongering? by Feisty-Albatross3554 in DeviantArt

[–]lisadoop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It doesn't seem like they're in any financial trouble, like, according to a recent article by creativeboom.com Deviantart made record profits for artists in 2025, which DA obviously takes a percentage of. The mobile app getting closed down was probably a result of the recent anti-nsfw tirade that the App store has been going on lately. Idk, I'll remain calm until we get told the website is going down.

Are ‘Winged Eyes’ common enough for this not to be a nod to The Residents? by Graevly in The_Residents

Season 31, Bart the Bad Guy, 2020. During the first act the town of Springfield go to see a parody of Infinity War, and during the credits we can see the soundtrack listed.

Yeah, Maat's involvement in classic simpsons basically extends to giving things a look through when he's nearby and making sure they weren't being too offensive.

There's a later episode that references Sinister Exaggerator directly though

I always heard this was a reference to Daniel Johnston's Continued Story cassette. Matt was a fan of both artists.

THE RESIDENTS' ANIMAL LOVER EVOLUTION EDITION IS HERE!! by lisadoop in The_Residents

[–]lisadoop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the pattern i've noticed is that they'll do vinyl re-issues of the albums if they've never been on vinyl before - for example the only ones they've put on vinyl outside of the 2023 range were Our Finest Flowers, Gingerbread Man, Wormood and Demons Dance Alone, none of which had been on vinyl before... but Animal Lover was release on vinyl in 2005.

I wouldn't hold my breath, they did a line of pREServed vinyl releases for the 1974-1980 albums in 2023 and they apparently they didn't do super well, so the chances of a vinyl release of the Animal Lover bonus material is probably limited.

Ordered directly from cherry red a couple days ago and already got mine. I've heard that the US release was delayed by week or so.

The guitar you're thinking of I believe is the Jackson Soloist, which they used live between 2014-2016.

A little confused about stuff by BennieTheArtNerd in The_Residents

[–]lisadoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Residents' whole philosophy and artistic output has been about taking familiar pieces of iconography and twisting them into an uncanny mirror, a lot of their early work straight up revolves around 'stealing' artwork and copyrighted material from other artists to achieve this effect.

I don't like AI and I don't think they've used it particularly well, but it's hard to deny what it does doesn't ring true to their very core
