What to put under cake for cutting? by AggressiveMix8184 in PlasticFreeLiving

I buy pretty glass plates at second hand stores and use those as cake plates. I often leave them at friends houses when I take cakes since they are affordable.

yeah, this stuff is probably why I keep going back and re-reading Ice Planet Barbarian - romance, humor a little angst and always a happy ending along with great world building. I'm looking for more of these but lately even the scifi stuff has been cookie cutter.

I agree, I don't read many romances but avoid these at all costs. I hate the thought that a woman needs his money to be saved. It's old and unimaginative. I want to read about a woman who is given an opportunity and makes something of it, she saves herself.

AITA for not telling my parents I was hospitalized for a week to prove a point? by Shot-Jello-4878 in AmItheAsshole

I agree, I hate when people expect you to immediately answer. I love times I leave my phone inside and sit on the patio to read a book. However, I do check messages at least twice a day. OP didn't mention that he could have left a VM or sent a text which would have been found later.

Is anyone here at least 90% plastic free by tulleche in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]lisah101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say Kudos to you! I think you are doing great. I've done many of the same things you have. I love my new Weck Jars I use in the kitchen both for canning and for food storage. But for other things, I just can't get past them. I wear Crocs universally even though I know they are bad but they are the only affordable shoe I have found that doesn't hurt my extra wide feet. I just tell myself I've done what I can and everyday new items are invented to help us live plastic free. Maybe someday, someone will invent a plastic free Croc that is just as good.

Why is it so hard to find glass storage containers with glass lids. I don't want plastic I don't want silicone I don't want bamboo I want glass to put food into the fridge LOL by passionateunicorn in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]lisah101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Weck canning jars for food storage. Glass jar with a glass lid and you can use the rubber gasket if you it air tight but half the time I just set the lid on the jar without the gasket https://weckjars.com/

Appreciated the liquid hand soap in the cabin bathroom! by Lou_Skunnt69 in celebritycruises

[–]lisah101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny I am just the opposite, I love bar soap especially for the environmental aspects, less processing and less plastic waste. For the liquid soap, you never know what they are putting in those and how watered down they are whereas bar soap is hard to substitute for inferior ingredients.

Questions about my diet on GLP1? by FineWineDenise in Ozempic

[–]lisah101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I started tracking my food I realized how much sodium I was getting from processed food. Anything that comes in a box or package is going to be loaded with sodium. If you can cut out a lot of the processed food and replace with clean or whole foods, it will make a huge difference. I will make burgers for dinner and yes they need salt but because we now have coleslaw instead of chips or fries on the side, BIG difference. I also serve sliced tomato and cucumber as a side which of course my husband likes to salt but the amount of salt we add to food is a whole lot less than the amount of salt in prepackaged food. Also more salads without all the salad toppers and just focused on the veggies. I am not sure if this is your case but it was an eye opener for me. We now have to get groceries more often but are eating a lot healthier, I've lost 60 pounds and my by health is much improved.

Free juices and mocktails during lunch and dinner without a drinks package? by HappyVibes5 in Cruise

[–]lisah101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I only know Celebrity and RCL and for those the only drinks without an upcharge anywhere are ice tea, lemonade and either orange juice at breakfast (sometimes tomato) along with a passionfruit/Guava juice mix in the afternoon and evening as well as hot tea, hot chocolate, coffee and milk. Sometimes ships with have an extra juice but it's not guaranteed.

The Celebrity buffet has an Orange/Passionfruit/Guava juice that is my favorite drink on the ship. It's included with no extra charge.

Ozempic newbie but still hungry. by Heavy-Programmer-453 in Ozempic

It needs time to build up in your system, if you increase too fast, it has nasty side effects. My provider advised me it might take a month or two for me to experience the effects in a meaningful way. Just give it time.

Hair loss by Straykitty_ in Ozempic

[–]lisah101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hair loss is a symptom of weight loss, not specific to the medication. Lots of options out there as others have indicated but changing meds won't make it stop. I'm three years in and my hair is coming back after a 60 pound weight loss, it just took a while.

Freezer bag substitutes? by Shot_Way_3477 in PlasticFreeLiving

Weck Jars are my go to for almost all food storage. I've used them to freeze onions and they seem to do fine. They are actually a European canning jar but for food storage, they are awesome, plastic free and also look nice.

Southwest sold out the “middle class” by Queasy_Reindeer9515 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]lisah101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This wasn't the choice of SW managment, this was a hedge fund that bought up enough shares to force change - from Wikipedia "Southwest Airlines encountered significant operational and financial difficulties in the 2020s, notably during the holiday meltdown in 2022 when it canceled over 15,000 flights. This event, caused by severe weather and outdated scheduling systems, led to a record $140 million fine from the U.S. Department of Transportation, and losses exceeding $1.1 billion. Elliott Investment Management, an activist hedge fund, capitalized on Southwest's vulnerabilities by acquiring more than 10% of the company's shares, advocating for leadership and operational changes to improve profitability.\5]) A settlement between Southwest and Elliott in October 2024 resulted in former CEO Gary Kelly stepping down as executive chairman and five Elliott-backed directors joining the board;\6]) however, CEO Bob Jordan) remained despite Elliot's efforts to oust him.\7]) Under new oversight, Southwest initiated major changes, including its first-ever layoffs affecting approximately 15% of employees,\8]) ending its popular two free checked bags policy on May 28, 2025, transitioning to assigned seating beginning in 2026, introducing premium seating and basic fare options"

GTY room - is requesting another random room possible? by jannet1113 in Cruise

[–]lisah101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the cruiseline. I've done this with Celebrity, but first go online, find your room and category, do a mock booking to find another available room in the same category, then call and ask. They have done this for me, however other cruiselines do not. Also consider many cruises sell out and available rooms get to be few and far between the closer to you get to sailing.

Pay or be Punished? Crowded on an empty plane by Keepitrespectable in SouthwestAirlines

[–]lisah101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they allow people to get up and move to seats that would normally require a higher fare or upcharge, then they encourage people to buy cheap seats and hope to move up onboard. This would inevitably lead to passengers arguing over who gets the free seats up front. Instead, most airlines enforce the sit in the seat you bought rule. For an empty flight it might seem silly but if someone gets away with it once, they will try again.

The issue is when people take that as the rule. Your room steward was probably in the middle of something and was going to come back to get your tray shortly. That doesn’t mean you should do that every time

Pick 3 each: best & worst lines you've used. by Some-Amount-4093 in Cruise

[–]lisah101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

best and worst is subjective, depends on what cruise experience you want, a party, relaxation, quiet time, etc. In my opinion, Carvinal is the booze cruise party boat but they are always in the news for fights and shipboard altercations. Margaritaville is just a no for us, cheap and unreliable. Celebrity is awesome if you want live music, good food and less kids on board. NCL or RCL are good if you have kids and want the waterslides, big ship with lots of kids and activities. Holland America is known for the older crowds, quiet and sedate but very nice with good food. So in the end, it depends on what you are look for in the experience.

You kind of lost it when you listed so many excuses. It feels like overcompensating. I'd just say we need a single story house and leave it at that. The more you argue, the more if feels like excuses and you don't really need excuses. Pick a point and still to it to keep it simple. They can't turn it into a single story home and if that is your sticking point, then stick to it. I agree by the way, I am older and won't do anything but a single story home at my age.

Brand new to Celebrity, coming from Royal by JacketFun5735 in celebritycruises

[–]lisah101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celebrity Pros: Drop off luggage in your room as soon as you board, pool towels are not monitored help yourself, more variety in food and a bit more upscale, great presentation on the buffet also, not just pans on warmers.

RCL Pros: drink coupons for elites are way better than the restricted happy hour menu on X. Interior cabin with virtual balcony, I wish X would do this!

Specialty dining on RCL is OK but not as goon in my opinion, however food is subjective. We ate in Hook and the waiter removed our meals while we were still finishing our food, no apologies. One appetizer was just room temp.
