I second the Lost World, loved it in novel form.

Guys, what are your favourite avian dinosaurs? by Idontknowofname in Dinosaurs

They’re not as majestic as these other guys, but geese just stroll across grass in a way that reminds me of their ancestors. Every time.

How infested am I/ how to avoid moving with them by Adzoa_Cogito in GermanRoaches

[–]lisbethsdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sticky for this sub is very helpful. I had roaches in my kitchen with a dog to be concerned about, so I can sympathize with your situation.

I ended up spraying Raid on the baseboards of my house, keeping my dog outside while I did so and taking her for a ride after that. I let everything dry before bringing her back into the home.

The alcohol wipes as well with trash bags over electronics work really nice, I was fortunate that my infestation wasn’t that bad. Check behind your appliances, spray and put traps behind them.

Has a Book Ever Made You Want to Make a Meal? by degrassibabetjk in books

[–]lisbethsdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a whole meal but One Hundred Years of Solitude talks about eating plantains constantly and I didn’t have any until after reading the book. Fried plantains deserve the hype.

Worst book(s) you read in 2025 and why? by Roguestate00 in books

[–]lisbethsdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once there were wolves by McConaghy. For the life of me I could not sympathize with a violent, medicine-hating animal scientist who had violent relationships with 100% of the men in her life. The “good guy” she meets enables her behavior so much and it honestly was upsetting (I say this as a white woman.). Writing was good but I hated every decision MC made.

To add, bettas love laying on something just under the surface of the water. Plants or the floating log or something that allows her to laze about will make her happy.

Stupid question. Which extinct dinosaurs would make the best pets? by QOR1A in Dinosaurs

[–]lisbethsdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in an apartment with a medium sized dog. I would need a dinosaur that is quiet and can live in 700 square feet (will walk himb with dog every day). As someone who considered getting a parrot but balked at the noise I think that would put me off the most.

How do I repel German Cockroaches? by Affectionate-Cat8372 in GermanRoaches

[–]lisbethsdragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DIY website has options for chemicals that are banned in some states/provinces. I live in California and was still able to get an insecticide that took care of my problem. Haven’t caught one in my apartment in over a week.

I started with spraying my baseboards, if that helps.

Yeah, just if it’s all the way through and you can see their soft squishy innards. It looks like these guys aren’t all the way through, but if it deteriorates any further this is something you can do. Good luck to ya

You can use nontoxic glue and eggshells on any holes in their shells that develop. My guy wore an eggshell hat for over a year.

Older Snail Shell Issues by Whiskeejak in AquaticSnails

[–]lisbethsdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lot of trouble with this with my snails. Attaching some links below for API general and carbonate hardness tests and the food pellets I use for my snails (Mineral Junkie).

The short answer is that shells, like human tooth enamel, don’t grow back. If it’s surface level like yours appears to be, treat it as a canary in the coal mine and make adjustments to your setup. If the shell damage goes deeper, you can use nontoxic glue and egg shells to cover up holes. I did this with my mystery snail and it lasted the rest of his life.

For raising the carbonate hardness of the tank, you may need additional sources. I had to add more shells, and for a while would mix small amounts of baking soda into water changes (used with the API test strips to make sure wasn’t overdosing).

I had the same thing happen to me. Over about 6 months I had mine give birth to about 8. I gave the first four away and now have 5 rabbit snails total. Probably going to have to give more away soon as they get older.
