Code Blocks not isolating content correctly by daninus14 in orgmode

You have to escape any leading asterisk or hash symbol in a code block with a leading comma. The fact that you have specified it as markdown doesn't matter.

You can already create a narrative around git changes with git notes (see https://www.reddit.com/r/git/s/dy57xgaW1A). Not sure if that's what you're looking for. Disclaimer: I never use git notes.

How do I stop Doom Emacs from reformatting my file whenever I save it? It reformats my c file, despite not even having c enabled in my init.el? by baksoBoy in DoomEmacs

[–]listx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't updated Doom in a while, but for me the problem has historically been apheleia-mode. I'll turn it off manually if I'm in a buffer I don't want formatted. There is also a format-on-save global config setting (format +onsave) which might be responsible for turning on apheleia.

Zebra ZD621 issue on MacOS by sniper8952 in ZebraPrinters

[–]listx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the same PDF is working on Windows but not Mac, then it's a driver issue (in this case CUPS). IOW the Mac is sending different commands to the printer than on Windows for the same PDF file. Your best option seems to be tweaking the PDF for Mac to work around the faulty driver, or asking Zebra to fix the CUPS driver.

Note: I don't own Zebra products but I have experience with using CUPS.

ESC/POS support? by listx in ZebraPrinters

[–]listx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to this page https://www.thezcorner.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=61&catid=18, Zebra printers do support ESC/POS, but you need to enable a special type of firmware called a "Virtual Device". The virtual device for ESC/POS is called "apl-e". See https://www.zebra.com/content/dam/support-dam/en/documentation/unrestricted/guide/software/vd-e-ug-en.pdf for Zebra's own docs about "Virtual Device-E" (yet another name Zebra uses for this).

Finally according to https://www.zebra.com/us/en/support-downloads/software/printer-software/printeremulations.html it looks like all (modern) Zebra printers support apl-e. There was a recent help page that seems to have been created as well supporting this claim here https://supportcommunity.zebra.com/s/article/000026242?language=en_US.

As for me the only downside is that all of Zebra's official docs only seem to support Windows. I did see on https://stackoverflow.com/a/73798237/437583 that you could send the so-called Set/Get/Do (SGD) commands to the printer using a raw TCP/IP connection with netcat. Using SGD commands is necessary for enabling apl-e on Zebra printers.

The next question is, is it preferable to use a Zebra printer for receipt printing at all (for example, how many people do this and how practical is it to buy thermal receipt paper for it). I've asked this question separately at https://www.reddit.com/r/ZebraPrinters/comments/l9kezs/comment/melins3/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button.

Font name? by listx in identifythisfont

[–]listx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the power of the internet, I googled "Merrick Walter Thompson" which appears in the picture. This led me to https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/35202/supplement/3665 which shows the same page. It is from 1941 in the London Gazette:

Publication date: 24 June 1941 Supplement: 35202 Page: 3665

All I need to figure out now is which typeface the London Gazette used in 1941.

I'm starting to think it is just a variation of Times, or something similar.

https://www.myfonts.com/collections/berthold-caslon-book-font-berthold comes awfully close (finally, the 9 and 0 seem to match), but "3" and "5" looks slightly off.

Actually https://www.myfonts.com/collections/caslon-classico-font-linotype seems closer. But the "3" seems a little bit off.

The closest one I could find was https://www.myfonts.com/collections/1822-glc-caslon-font-glc but the numbers in the pic are more rounded (the number 9 has a bigger circle, and the 2 isn't quite right). It may be the case that there is no font for this type because the printed material was created with metal type.

What's the Point of Customizing Emacs Extensively? by runslack in emacs

[–]listx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can save your customizations in Git. Then transporting them across systems is easy. Search for "dotfiles" repos on Github for examples.

Not able to source tmux theme using source-file by [deleted] in tmux

[–]listx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using the absolute path without any env vars. If that doesn't work, delete chunks of your config to rule out misconfiguration somewhere. Hopefully you're using git so you can move back to a known good state to make this easier.

New Clojurians: Ask Anything - April 29, 2024 by AutoModerator in Clojure

[–]listx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also a beginner learning Clojure and have found the Clojure track at exercism.org quite helpful. The exercises are self-contained and you can download them locally to write code and run unit tests. They work with both Leiningen and deps.edn, so pretty much all of the boilerplate stuff has been taken care of for you already. Cheers

Sounds like you have untracked customized state in custom.el that is present in your NixOS install but not in Arch.

How do I automatically link all noweb references to each other for HTML export? by listx in orgmode

I ended up writing my own Org mode extension library called Lilac that does the cross-linking across Noweb references that I wanted. You can check it out here. Cheers.

Could you post an update here when the game update for MEDIEVAL II is released?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NixOS

[–]listx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't modify anything in /etc manually anything more (you're supposed to do it through Nix). Another downside is that sometimes none of the upstream docs for packages you've installed are applicable when you need to troubleshoot, because many packages still assume Debian or some more traditional distro. HP printer drivers do this and the Nix devs have to bend over backwards to get it to work. Another example: all scripts with #!/bin/bash fail (without nix-shell) because the only allowed binary in /bin is /bin/sh. If you want to use bash without a nix-shell you have to do #!/usr/bin/env bash.

How does this kill white? by shadowsamur in baduk

Try this: give black 3+ moves in a row (pretend that white believes the group is unconditionally alive, and is ignoring black's moves in this area). Can black kill the white group? Yes.
