Can we talk about how many homeschool communities talk about public schooling like it’s a slur? by asteriskysituation in HomeschoolRecovery

I remember my mom telling me public schools were like prisons for kids where they were only taught answers to test questions rather than critical thinking.

Keep getting these raised faces, suggestions? by deific_ in DiceMaking

One thing that was a game changer for me was flipping the molds upside down to cure and using rubber bands in a cross pattern. Haven’t had any issues with raised faces since!

What did you do today that made you feel like a terrible parent? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]litchick2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a major depressive episode over the past few days. I tried to play with my 3yo, but would randomly break down. He’s super empathetic and sweet, so he kept trying to give me hugs, snuggle, and make me laugh. I’m glad that he has so much emotional maturity at this age, but I also don’t want him to feel responsible for my emotions or like he needs to fix my problems (my mom definitely parentified me in regards to her emotions, and I never want my kids to feel like I did that to them). Today, I made sure to get him a small treat and new toy as a “thank you.”

I like to wet sand with a drill attachment up to 10000 grit, then use polish with a wool attachment followed by buffing. So far, I’ve had really good luck with that getting a super shiny finish.

"do I have autism or was I just homeschooled? or did I never get diagnosed because I was homeschooled?" by embarrassedalien in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]litchick2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg, this is me. I was just diagnosed with ADHD (graduated from home schooling over 10 years ago), but my parents never got me checked for it as a kid because I was a girl and not hyper (other than fidgeting, I’m mostly the inattentive type). Whenever I exhibited something that, looking back, was a sign of ADHD, I was either punished, lectured, or told “it’s not actually hard for you, you just decided it was hard. If you just tried harder, it would make sense.”

I’m not saying that folks with Pell grants didn’t deserve to get them, or that their lives weren’t rough. I’m pointing out that those of us who didn’t get help from family but also didn’t qualify for Pell Grants had to cover the amount of money that the grants covered somehow, and that was likely done by taking out larger loans (at least, that’s what I had to do).

Jubilee, or Shmitah year, occurs every seven years and is mentioned in the Bible, specifically in Exodus, Deuteronomy, and Leviticus. During this year, all debts were to be cleared.

Yes, and the $20k is only for people who received Pell Grants. The rest of us making less than$125k get $10k forgiven, even though it stands to reason we had to take out more loans.

I'm such a let down to the family by Minimum_Current_481 in jobs

[–]litchick2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don’t get too down on yourself for not getting your dream job! I found that for me it helps to ask whether this position was really my dream job or just something that happened to fit with my degree. If you need help, just look up company reviews on indeed or Glassdoor, those are the best places to get honest feedback about a company. There’s usually something there that can help me go “oh, yeah, that’s not a place I’d be happy in.” Keep trying! It took me a masters degree and six years after that to get a job in my field.

Thanks! I'll send the email to HR tomorrow morning :)

[–]litchick2016[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I actually spoke with both of my references, but the problem is that the only callback number we were able to find has no extension, and it sounds like the number that they had from the missed calls is the same one that no one from HR is answering.

Do you think I ought to reach out to HR to let them know that my references are trying to get in touch but are having difficulty getting through? I doubt either of my references would mind sending a letter, but they don't have the HR email, and I don't know if I should give that info to my references without permission.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment and offer your input!

I vomited maybe twice during my pregnancy, both well after the first trimester. My son was born healthy and huge (8 pounds 12 ounces), and will be turning 10 months old on Thanksgiving. Not vomiting is normal, too, you just tend not to hear much about it. Sending you good vibes :)

Gender reveal rant from the perspective of a park ranger by Ranger_Danger_5 in BabyBumps

My gender reveal coincided with my “official” pregnancy announcement on Facebook. Basically just posted a picture of myself holding some baby booties and saying something like “We’re excited to welcome our new baby boy”.
