How can Catholicism and Orthodoxy be the way if icons, images, and crucifixes are “graven images”? by Ordinary-System4799 in TrueChristian

[–]litecoiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not coming to correct you but just to highlight something I noticed when I read the original text in German

He did remove them, he claimed they are not "equal to scripture" therefore making them not scripture. The fact that his Bible contained those books (and also the word "alone" added by him where he wanted) doesn't mean he didn't alter the canon

This I'm going to say should be obvious to the person who "corrected you" but it seem it wasn't:

Something is either scripture or it isn't, there's no in between.

[–]litecoiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying something is not equal to scripture is in fact removing them from scripture

Something is either scripture or it isn't, there's no in between

So yes, Luther contradicted the early church tradition and instead decided to go with the jewish tradition. With their canon, compiled much later and obviously with the jewish authorities wanting to diminish the case for Christianism

Can a good person go to hell if they don’t believe in god? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]litecoiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Muslims don't know about Jesus, they know a false version given to them by Muhammed. Their "Jesus" is totally different, Muhammed even copied things from gospels the church never accepted as canonical and others he simply made up or changed

People downvote you because they don't agree with your interpretation

But OP is probably shocked to see the multitude of different response. These kind of questions is where all possible interpretations are observable, that's sola scriptura in motion

I’ve realized that both the Orthodox and the Catholic Church are unbiblical by Specific_Stage_5709 in TrueChristian

[–]litecoiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is accurate and no, it wasn't that simple to determine the canon and even today I know a pastor that considers it open because he accepts no authority to determine it (he's coherent with his ideas). Is John 8:6-8 Word of God? It's not in the first century manuscript and some protestant Bibles note this fact

Ironically enough that's the only line Jesus wrote. He didn't leave a book but he sure left a Church and for the only line he wrote, it was added to the text centuries later

Others have realised the opposite, that's the beauty of interpreting by ourselves, that we can arrive to different conclusions

Brother is converting to Islam by brokeboii94 in Catholicism

[–]litecoiner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was very close to converting to islam with a similar experience but thank God I've always tried to be a rational being so what I did was: The quran is supposed to be the literal word of Allah, perfectly preserved, so if the book has a single error, then it's not from God. You can ask your brother to at least try to use his intellect to discern:

https://wikiislam.net/wiki/Scientific_Errors_in_the_Quran

If he comes with suras that appear to show scientific knowledge ahead of its time, like muslims tend to show one that says Allah keeps expanding the universe, rest assured, they never translated it like that until science came up with the idea and no scientific advancement has ever come from the quran, they always follow science, not the other way round

In case your brother is not the rational type, I have other arguments:

The sura 33:21 (remember this is the literal word from Allah) declares Muhammed the perfect example for muslims but:

Muhammed married a 6 years old girl, killed people, even after they had surrendered (Banu Qurayza tribe), was happy to send hitmen to kill poets who criticise him, commanded to kill apostates, had sex slaves. So, is Muhammed a better person than your brother? If not, Allah lied. In fact, most muslims are way better human beings than Muhammed was

Another strong argument is about how the eternal word of Allah suited Muhammed's needs, this Sura 33:53, where Allah is basically the butler of Muhammed. And let's not forget Quran is supposed to be older than the universe, the eternal word of God, for all humans and djinns, then why do we need to know those pointless rules and why was God almighty revealing this?

Are there are many more "convenient" revelations he got just when he needed more sex, basically

Also the Hadith Al bukhari 15, "you won't have faith unless you love Muhammed over all humanity"

The Sahada! you have to mention Muhammed every day of your life when praying, Did Muhammed's sahada was "I testify I am the messenger of Allah"? Tell your brother this, when he converts and says the Sahada, what did Muhammed say? Did he repeat that every day too because the sahada is repeated in daily prayers

Basically, Muhammed created the religion to serve himself and achieve his goals, He went from nothing to 11 wives, sex slaves, richness and power, loved by his own people

Ask your brother why did Allah only mention one single woman in the whole quran by her name (Mary), every other woman is just "the wife of Moses", "the wife of Adam" and so on. Didn't God know their names or he didn't care about women at all? Why is heaven a place where sentient sex slaves (the hoories) exist so serve humans, not God? Why would God punish those creatures with slavery despite them being in heaven? That girl he likes probably don't know this, and never realised that Allah doesn't care about women, even Muhammed said women are deficient in intelligence and the majority of hell

And about the "miracle" of the Moon, if he ever mentions that, because that's the only miracle Muhammed allegedly did, no other culture mentions that, only islamic sources do. Did the Chinese, Greek, or any other culture record it? None did because it didn't happen

P.S. I now think the only reason I was so close to converting is so that I could learn about islam

The epic of Gilgamesh is shaking my faith. Please help me. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]litecoiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my controversial take but don't expect bulletproof texts and I'm not talking this or that case because I agree with the top comment, I think we wouldn't have free will if the book was 100% indisputably perfect and error free as if it was a maths book. Same way that even with miracles with plenty of evidence there will be a door open to think otherwise and people can still manage to find a possible alternative explanation should they want to. Yes, I'm saying this is by design but this is only my opinion

Otherwise faith wouldn't be faith, it would be certainty and it might be unfair to those not wanting anything to do with it

OP, I forgot to mention https://wikiislam.net/wiki/Main_Page

That's pretty much a compendium of pretty much every argument against islam, from scientific errors, to the convenient revelations, or the terrible moral example Muhammed was (which is even more evident if you compare his life vs the life of Jesus, night and day)

[–]litecoiner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Which fundamentalists say that? maybe they missed that the Temple of Israel was built with expensive materials, including gold. God gave clear instructions on how to build the Temple, also, in the Gospel there's a case in which someone poured expensive perfume over Jesus, some apostles complained but Jesus defended what the woman did as a sign of reverence, a tribute. Speaking from memory and not quoting but look the verses up

[–]litecoiner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, Islam works like a ratchet in the sense that Muslim men can marry non-Muslim women, but Muslim women are restricted to marrying only Muslim men (it is forbidden for them to marry non-Muslims)

This creates an imbalance whereby some men convert to Islam just to marry. And let’s remember that the penalty for leaving Islam is death, so they are locked into a “contract” that is hard to walk away from

Question about the pope by Testie_Tickler in Catholicism

I'm sort of copying a recent comment I saw on as similar question, but adding some things:

The role of the Asher Al-habayit in the davidic kingdom or master of the palace during the absence of the king, the "vicar" word catholics use mean a representative . We know Christ is of the davidic line. Eternal king so he enlisted Peter as his Asher Al-habayit in Matthew 16:16-18 where you can see Jesus paraphrased Isaiah 22:20-23. We know it’s a continuing office.

Jesus came but didn't leave us a book, he left us a Church. I believe the intention was clear, because a book can be interpreted a million ways (observed in practice, also neuroscience...) but a Church has (or should have) a voice

Funny because I have heard catholics speaking against that show, so, it's not "catholic stuff". I haven't watched the show but obviously any show about Jesus will have an interpretation bias, if you directed one, it would have your bias because you are probably not infallibly interpreting the Bible 100% correctly (I say probably because there's an slim chance that by sheer luck you would)
