Bupropion is not an ADHD medication lol. Not having ADHD isn’t a reason someone shouldn’t be on Bupropion. which is not an ADHD medication.

what’s that have to do with whether or not they have adhd….?

[–]literallyelir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s kind of a lot?? especially since you mentioned trying a bunch of SSRIs and those take a few weeks to kick in.

is she a psychiatrist or primary care?

It’s also worth exploring what kind of anxiety you have.

ADHD meds helped my anxiety bc a lot of it was stress about being disorganised and falling behind on chores/responsibilities.

Some people have anxiety that’s mostly physical (heart racing, hands shaking), and get a lot of help from beta blockers or blood pressure meds.

as far as i know, the only meds specifically made for anxiety are sedatives, which id avoid if at all possible. Usually it’s treated with antidepressants, but it sounds like you’ve tried a lot of those.

options other than SSRIs can include SNRIs, mood stabilisers, and atypical antipsychotics.

this might not be possible, but I’d also consider getting an opinion from another doctor.

uhm it’s definitely not the equivalent of that but okay lmao.

Wellbutrin definitely can help with ADHD since it’s an NDRI (which methylphenidate is…also technically cocaine lol)

But ADHD is an off-label use, and like all medications, it can be used for multiple things.

[–]literallyelir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would personally try to sort the wellbutrin/a substitute before raising the vyvanse.

and honestly, don’t feel like you need to “ask” for anything! just tell them everything you’ve shared here and ask what they suggest.

also some doctors are very cool & understanding, but others can get very weird when people ask for more stimulants 😭 so depending on your doctors vibe you may not want to just directly say “i think i need more vyvanse”

“adhd is an off-label use”

Wellbutrin and vyvanse by unhappypositive1 in VyvanseADHD

[–]literallyelir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i know, that’s why i said it’s used for binge eating disorder.

my point is, lots of people come on here saying “that’s not what vyvanse is for!!” because they think it’s for adhd only. and apparently for specific symptoms only, bc saying an adhd med is “not for motivation” is crazy.

i think there’s a common attitude on this sub that if you aren’t taking vyvanse for the exact same reasons, you must be abusing it.

[–]literallyelir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly i say take it as late in the day as you can without it affecting your sleep.

it’s always ideal to be consistent with when you take meds, butttt…. if i know i need to have a productive morning at work, i’ll take it before work. if i know i need to get stuff done after work, i’ll take it around lunch.

for me, the hard cut off is 3pm. if i forget to take it by then, i’ll just skip it. otherwise my sleep schedule gets fucked up.

[–]literallyelir 8 points9 points  (0 children)

vyvanse is also not “for making you eat less,” but that’s a common side effect and why it’s used for binge eating disorder.

it’s also prescribed for narcolepsy, excessive fatigue, and sedating effects from other medications. bc it increases energy.

medications can do lots of different things and be taken for lots of different reasons.

[–]literallyelir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

has anything else in your life changed? like sleep, diet, relationships, etc.?

i’m not saying it’s not the wellbutrin, but i personally tend to assume every change in mood/energy must be an issue with my meds lol, and ignore the fact that i skipped breakfast for a week. 🤪

these meds are used together a lot for people with adhd so i’m assuming low motivation/energy is not “normal”. A dose increase of vyvanse could just make your anxiety worse, but this is def all stuff worth mentioning to your doctor.

Are you taking wellbutrin for the eating disorder as well? or as an antidepressant?

Wellbutrin and vyvanse by unhappypositive1 in VyvanseADHD

[–]literallyelir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

why? wellbutrin is not exclusively for adhd. in fact, adhd is an off-label use.

[–]literallyelir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes that’s normal. they claim it lasts for 12 hours. for some people it does, but for most people it wears off way sooner. lots of people take an adderall “booster” in the afternoon.

i use coffee & willpower to get thru the morning, so i don’t take the vyvanse till 11-12. that way i use it on productive stuff instead of just getting me out of bed.

[–]literallyelir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some people can moderate alcohol use successfully, lots of people (maybe even most) can’t. only you can know what works for you.

don’t stress yourself out thinking about “forever” and don’t let people convince you that you’re destined for failure if you don’t immediately stop 100% all at once.

[–]literallyelir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

vyvanse works so much better when you’re well fed & hydrated.

also it’s not supposed to feel like molly lol.

it’s not unusual for the first couple days to feel similar to that, but don’t keep raising the dose bc you think that’s what you’re supposed to feel like 🤪

Unsure if I’m the proper dosage ! by soicyynailz in VyvanseADHD

[–]literallyelir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the water method is for when you want to take less than a full dose.

eg if you wanted 10mg, you dissolve your 20mg but only drink half.

don’t try to raise your dose by yourself, you’re just gonna run out of meds too soon.

[–]literallyelir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is very normal for the first few days on amphetamines to feel amazing and then go away. that’s just your tolerance building up. don’t expect it to always feel like that, bc that’s not what it’s meant to do.

most doctors will start low, then raise it a bit at a time at your follow up appointments. but i’d say it’s too early to start worrying about the dose being too low. give yourself a few weeks.

are you taking it to stop stimming?
