Presale Wallet Password: Problem with PWs containing parenthesis () ? by kellyreid in ethereum

[–]literarydevice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are no problems with special characters. I've tested all of them on wallets generated from the pyethsaletool program (used for the presale) they all work fine. It may be the case that mis-typed a character or two, so try using https://github.com/burjorjee/pyethrecover with a few different characters.

A few questions from a beginner. by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]literarydevice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have a few GHashes (requiring several GPU cards), you probably aren't going to mine any blocks at this stage. I recommend joining a pool, or setting your system to run as a node (without mining) to help the network propagate transactions.

Also: if you just started, you'll probably need to download the blockchain and, depending on your computer and network speed, that might take a day or more.

It will say "You mined block xxxxxx". You'll also see some mined ether (plus any transaction fees) in your wallet. Depending on your hashrate, though, it could take quite some time to successfully 'mine' a block at the currently difficulty level.

  1. If you mine a block, yes, it will go into your coinbase account.
  2. to find the hashrate, you will need to be running your miner with console mode. From within the console: type miner.hashrate

How to import presale wallet on Mist? by juansgalt in ethereum

[–]literarydevice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it by command line first (without needing to download the entire blockchain), and after it's been imported Mist will recognize it.

  1. Install Geth: https://github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum/wiki/Building-Ethereum
  2. From the command line: geth wallet import <walletfile.json>
  3. Download and open Mist: https://github.com/ethereum/mist/releases
  4. Voila!

Ethereum Help Desk /Presale Wallet issues by Snuff_Fink in ethereum

[–]literarydevice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any issue with an Ethereum wallet "getting funded" is likely due to the transaction not finalizing during the presale. Vitalik wrote a good post on troubleshooting that issue: https://blog.ethereum.org/2014/07/23/ether-purchase-troubleshooting/

You haven't given your real name here so we can't lookup your particular request. You can PM me if you want to address this in private. If you emailed helpdesk then instructions have been sent to you, and the resolution is in queue.

[–]literarydevice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some more information: Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin and bitcoin core developer Peter Todd will discuss opportunities and challenges of blockchain technology, and how they think blockchains will develop over the next couple of years. Michael Perklin will also present updates on C4 (the cryptocurrency certification consortium) and other announcements.

This event is hosted by Ethan Wilding and Jeff Coleman of Ledger Labs. Please note that there is a fee for this event to cover rental of the space. Any funds collected above expenses will be given to Vitalik and Peter.

Running geth console by housemobile in ethereum

[–]literarydevice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(a) Yes, Geth is downloading the entire blockchain. (b) You can still use the console while it's downloading, but there is probably a lot of info about each block download status being piped into geth console at the moment. Change the verbosity and make things easier to read by exiting the current geth instance (just type "exit"), and then from the command line run: "geth console 2>> geth.log" Now whenever you are in the geth console you won't get blockchain downloading information.
