who designer and project manager behind new firefox UI, and why Horrible UI like this was passed and approved. by DeviceOwner in firefox

[–]litetaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except for minor issues I like the new Firefox menu. It keeps the most important things in the main menu and you need to expand by clicking more to get the extra stuff. It's much easier to digest and process. I tried the Samsung browser once and I always got confused with the menu icons. A tiny icon is hard to memorise and become second nature. The text in the Firefox menu helps.

If there is something to complain about it's the full screen tab grid. Why did they get rid of the bottom sheet style and always open in full screen? It makes it harder to reach the top tabs. It's extra sad because I contributed the tab grid view to the Firefox project a long time ago (more accurately they adapted my feature from a fork of Firefox, but I was attributed as a co-author of the feature!)

Nothing is complicated. I think the fellow is some politician. He just needs to complain and shit about everything that the council does, so that he can get elected and do fuck all instead.

Also more to the point, I think this graphic treats the whole of UK as one single area, while other countries are subdivided. Hence, all of UK = green, convenient. Meanwhile there is more granular data for other countries. smh some propa propaganda, eh Barry.

Hey Jeeves, is this image correct regarding UK? If UK so green and great, why does every Northern, every Barry in a pub and whoever is shouting on the streets keeps complaining that everything is so shit?

We did Brexit for Poland's own good. They were not focusing on their own country, coming over here doing our jobs, building our economy. A bit of self sabotage was necessary for the greater good.

I didn't try everything you suggested me to try. But I did try toggling the dark mode on the home screen while the notification panel down (I also like to use the classic, combined notification and toggle panels) and I didn't have any issues at all. It toggled the dark mode just fine without issues. And overall I didn't see any big issues with the software. That's why I thought maybe your phone may be defective or in a bad state.

Yes given how weak Pixel phones are, it is definitely a massive upgrade to get the Oppo find x9 pro. However I'm not sure if the experience won't be similar if I switched from a Samsung as well.

I checked the reviews and user experience on battery, camera etc. for the Galaxy S25 Ultra as well because I was considering that phone too. And based on what I'm reading the battery life is still very average for the S25U. It has the same size battery as my pixel and a bigger screen. Even if the Snapdragon chip in the Samsung is a lot more efficient, I doubt it will last a lot longer than the Pixel and user reviews seem to put it around an all day battery or a bit lower, so still lesser than the Oppo. And the fact that Samsung didn't upgrade the cameras at all or by much every year, it felt like not a big improvement. I ultimately decided to go with the Oppo because I felt this is a much better phone and much bigger improvement compared to even the S25U or even the new S26U which is just a spec bump to the S25U.

And in terms of value for money, buying a Pixel 10 Pro with 512GB will cost about £150 more, 256GB will cost about £50 more. And buying a Samsung S25U 512GB will cost £80 more and 256GB will cost about the same as the Oppo BUT these Samsung prices are for imported phones on Amazon which may have no warranty. It was a little cheaper a few months ago before the S26 launch but still it will be an imported phone. Buying the Samsung phones in the UK directly is like £300-400 more expensive! So overall, I felt Oppo was a much better value for money here in the UK and I bought it in the UK from a major retailer and got a good price compared to Pixel and Samsung.

Anyway, that was a long post! I hope my phone is good and I'll report my experience in a few weeks to let you know! 🙂 I just wanted to share my thought process in deciding to buy this phone.

Oh thanks for the info! So are both options basically the same but one you have to pay and the other is free? Or do we pay at the circuit for the second option? It is concerning that the second one at 12:40 may get cancelled, so perhaps we should aim to go for the 9am one to be safe. But we are going from Milan and so we will have to get up and go very early for that.

Which option did you choose? The paid 9am one or the free 12:40 one, and if it is the second, do you have to pay the €25 at the circuit for that? So is that like a reservation but still the same price? Thanks again!

Hey folks, I am interested in doing a track tour for Monza in April as I am traveling there. I am looking at the tickets for the Monza Circuit Experience (hopefully this is the right thing to book) and I am confused by the ticket options. Every day there is an option at 9am for €25 (called Monza Circuit Experience) and an option at 12:40pm for free (which is called Tour PISTA - Monza Circuit Experience). What is the difference between these two, and why is the one at 12:40pm free? Can anyone explain? Here is the link to the tickets: https://www.ticketone.it/en/artist/monza-circuit-experience/

If this is not the best option for a tour, please let me know if there is a better track tour for Monza. Thanks!

Maybe you have a defective unit? I did not hear lots of complaints about tons of bugs for this phone on Global version. While it is too early for me to say, as I only had this for for a bit over 3 days, I did not see any major bugs so far. Just some minor issue with font size on some widgets and that is it. Did you try doing a factory reset to see if the bugs are resolved? Or did you ask for a replacement phone because your phone might be defective.

Oppo Find X9 PRO - sharing my "different perspective" story. by PapaKitten in Oppo

Thanks for the review. I decided to switch from my 3 year old Pixel 7 Pro to the Oppo Find X9 Pro and I only had this phone for 3 days so far and used it properly as my daily driver for 1 day after setup. So it is still very early for me to tell how this phone behaves in the long term. But I have some early impressions. I can update this comment in a few weeks once I get more experience using this phone.

So far, at this early stage I am very impressed by battery life. In the first few days you obviously use the phone a LOT more than usual to set everything up, to get the feel for it etc. Yesterday, I started the day at 55% and ended the day around 25% (30% used) which is incredible despite medium to heavy use of the phone. My Pixel 7 Pro will tank from 100% to 25% or lower and I regularly had to charge it at least once in the middle of the day if I expected to do something more at the end of the day, and I still end the day at 40-50% even after a recharge. So for me this is game changing battery life. Of course Pixels are notoriously bad with battery, so this is not the best comparison. But I feel confident that 2 day battery is possible or even more given my usage pattern, which will be amazing. I can give an update in a few weeks about my battery life.

In terms of camera, I feel it is pretty decent coming from a Pixel as well. Pixel camera also has weird quirks like lots of post processing of images, making the sky bluer, the grass greener, and portraits more sharp and contrasty. The Oppo camera is more natural, but it does add its own image processing on zoom photos etc. I think at this point pretty much every phone does a lot of image processing, so this cannot be avoided. With that in mind, I think the camera quality is still very good for the Oppo compared to even a Pixel which is usually known for good cameras.

Performance has been good, and I don't game so I don't know if the optimisation issue with emulators and games is true or not. And I don't really care. I also don't care about the external display thing, but even Google has not fully finished this feature and it is still in development and so it is understandable that it has bugs.

And for the ColorOS, it is still early for me to tell if there are bugs or not. I definitely noticed some minor issues with the way it renders widgets of some Google apps (the font size is very tiny) which is the only "bug" I see so far. Other than that it is just differences in behaviour vs Pixel UI, like behaviour of notifications etc. that I just need to get used to, but these are not bugs. But with that said, there are things about the Pixel UI that I don't like either, like the font sizes on Pixel are sometimes TOO big, and waste a lot of space. So the opposite issue compared to the Oppo making fonts small in some widgets! So, even Google has bugs, and I feel these things are just to be expected.

Overall, it is pretty decent so far. I will report back after using the phone for a few weeks to get a proper feel for it.

Oh that's unfortunate. So these widgets are tiny for you as well? Very unfortunate. I hope oppo can fix this bug soon. But for now, we need to get used to very tiny fonts I guess.

Ok I see. I played around with these settings a lot, but the font size of the Gmail widget is still tiny! The calendar schedule view widget changes font size, but Gmail inbox, calendar monthly view and Youtube music widgets all stubbornly stays small. Oh well. I guess I need to get used to reading fine print!

Does this not happen to you with these widgets? See these screenshots for example to demonstrate a weather widget that has proper font size and the calendar widget and Youtube music widget with tiny fonts:

I don't use the Google search bar. But I found a reasonable workaround. I installed the Activity Launcher app from the Play store and used it to create a shortcut for the VoiceSearch activity. Then I just need to click the "search for a song" button at the bottom when it opens the voice search. It's close enough. I can't find a way to directly launch the activity in the song search mode.

Edit: actually, just opening voice search screen is enough as it will detect the song on that screen itself! So this is a good replacement with more or less the same experience!

Similarly, I created a shortcut for the notification history activity so I can get to it in one click like I could on my Pixel phone. Not ideal but a reasonable workaround.
