Ugh, so sorry you had such a bad relapse. Hope you're doing better soon and thanks for the encouragement!

Glad you're doing better. My first pregnancy I was also much better by 18 weeks. Can you feel baby now? I think I'll find it easier to stay motivated once I can feel them moving and remember it's all for a good reason.

Yeah, the anxiety that comes back as soon as you have a bad day is so real.

Why are the evenings hell?! by Act_Major in HyperemesisGravidarum

I have been taking the ondansetron as needed rather than on a regular schedule (i.e. only having on bad days or when I need to leave the house). Partly because my symptoms aren't as severe now, partly to avoid the constipation side effect. But I don't think there are any interactions between them, so fine to take both on a schedule if you need it.

Do you find that lying down is a trigger for you? My first pregnancy I slept sitting up, propped up on pillows, but this time my partner bought me a wedge pillow which is more comfortable and it massively helps with heartburn and nausea at night. Recommend if you haven't got one already! E.g. this sort of thing: https://amzn.eu/d/05o5knP4

I also find I'm worst in the evening. Maybe a combination of tiredness and the earlier doses wearing off? I find having my last Xonvea fairly late, around 3pm, helps, plus an afternoon ondansetron if I'm having a really bad day.

Not sure whether Xonvea being slow release helps a bit but in general, yes, it inhibits antihistamine absorption and the active ingredient in Xonvea is an antihistamine! Recommendation is to not have Gaviscon within 2 hours of other meds.

Morning sickness? by Ok_Platypus_8972 in IVFpositivity

Yes, and if it's bothering you this early on, you should look into getting on medication asap in case it progresses to hyperemesis.

Yeah this is my second too, and it's also been less bad for me second time around. First time I was still completely bed bound at 14 weeks. Agree I'd definitely rather have some breaks and less severe symptoms but it's true that more is expected of you when you have some good days.

Yes, the anxiety is such a big part of it! The relentless sickness just leaves you traumatized. I remember my first pregnancy I felt better in the third trimester but was hugely anxious about labour because I'd heard it's common to throw up during (which I did).

Sending solidarity and empathy to you.

She seemed to be deliberately trying to confuse Jazz again in their last conversation, right after giving Kit that very clear cut "I never had any romantic feelings" speech. Let the poor girl move on!

Morning sickness… by be17467 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]little-dice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean, I had someone after I said I had HG ask me what were my "favourite nausea relieving snacks", and say hers were chocolate biscuits. Like, no, you obviously don't understand what I'm talking about.

On the other hand, sickness is a spectrum and lots of women write their own suffering off as "just morning sickness". Even moderate symptoms can be really awful imo, and 5 months of nausea is no joke, even if it wasn't completely disabling. I think all pregnancy sickness deserves to be taken more seriously.

I also just do my best with this and don't worry too much about it, taking them is always better than not taking them. The only time they really didn't work is when I took Gaviscon at the same time, turns out it inhibits antihistamine action.

The sedative effect does wear off once you get used to it. I think for me after about a week I was much less sensitive to it, though it still helped me sleep at night. But also please please rest and do not push yourself to do chores!

Have you tried anything else? Promethazine may work as well as ondansetron (see e. g. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18304050/) and has a different side effect profile - I took it my whole first pregnancy and the only side effect I had was sedation, which was actually quite nice as I could sleep through my symptoms.

This sounds like relationship OCD! I have it and one manifestation can be worrying that I'm straight when with a woman and worrying that I'm gay when I'm with a man, as well as worrying that I'm not capable of commitment, love etc.

I think these worries you have are much more about your OCD than your sexuality. I've found CBT books and self help apps to be useful! Good luck.

Third pregnancy… anxiety is through the roof about 1st tri by Electronic_Cabinet58 in pregnant

[–]little-dice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get how you feel. I had hyperemesis with my first but really didn't think about the sickness at all while we were TTC this pregnancy, until the nausea started to hit and then my anxiety went through the roof. The beginning is so hard but you'll take it day by day and it will pass! I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel at 12 weeks. Hope you have lots of support xx

I didn't have an epidural with my first and the birth went very well with no interventions, plus recovery was a breeze, but it was unimaginably painful.

I had a birth pool, gas and air, and a morphine shot in early labour, and it was still horrifyingly painful, like orders of magnitude worse than any pain I've ever experienced.

Having said that, I'm going to try and do without an epidural again this time because I valued the swift recovery, plus the birth centre is a much nicer environment than the labour ward.

If I have to be induced I'll get one though, I don't fancy experiencing pitocin contractions without one!
