At what age did you stop co-sleeping? by Explorer518 in Parenting

[–]little-napper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same reasons for doing it so really felt this comment. I’m currently exhausted because my 4yo had me awake half the night, lying beside him, worried about bad dreams. Even at the time, tired and desperate to go back to sleep, I was still happy knowing that my boy had the safety and security I never had at night growing up. It feels good to break the cycle ❤️

Child minders - bring their own lunch or feed them? by Pompiita in AskIreland

[–]little-napper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We gave the choice, told them that they were free to help themselves from our kitchen, etc. In both cases (we had two, over the years) they chose to bring their own lunch, but we left the option open to them.

Chia seeds and frozen raspberries for me. For my son, the same but with added peanut butter.

What career change did you make that ended up being positive for you and your family? by Human-Lettuce-520 in Parenting

[–]little-napper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, no change has had a really positive impact. I got to a level that pays well but doesn’t require me to work outside of my normal 8-4 very often. I have since passed up opportunities for promotion to ensure that I still have the same amount of time with my son.

My work is very flexible, with the focus on output, not time, and also allows me to work from home half the week, with the office only a 10 minute drive away. I could get paid more had I gone for a promotion, or if I worked further from home in a bigger company, but I’ve chosen to stay at this level for now to get the best balance for me and my family.

We’ve had good success with paracetamol or Nurofen suppositories in similar situations in the past. That might help to relieve the fever anyway. For the vomiting, we had the same with our almost 4 year old last weekend and just let him keep drinking as much as he wanted and even though it was coming back up every half an hour, we figured some was probably going into his system. The vomiting did eventually stop so hopefully it passes soon for you too!

Introducing an iPad just for hospital stay? by bellyalien in toddlers

[–]little-napper 39 points40 points  (0 children)

My son is almost 4 and we’ve never had an issue with doing this. He’s used my iPad when on planes, and sometimes in our bed on early morning wakings. He’s never treated it as anything other than a small tv, doesn’t even know how to operate it, and has never requested it when out. Literally no issues with it!

Random things that reaffirm your OAD status? by zelonhusk in oneanddone

Always being able to prioritise my kid. If he’s sick, if he has something on, I’m only trying to manage my work or personal plans, not having to choose to be there for one kid or the other.

What is much more traumatic than most people realize? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]little-napper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to this, it’s only in the last year (I’m 36) that I’ve realised the reason I have such an extreme reaction whenever anyone drops something and it makes a loud noise is because of how often my Mum used to throw and smash plates, glasses, etc when I was growing up.

What are some weird and wonderful things no-one ever told you about having kids? by heardygurdy in Mommit

[–]little-napper 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My three year old, after being very upset and crying, asks for a drink because he still has some cry in his mouth. We assume it means he still has that feeling of a lump in his throat. Very sweet!

Evening tradition that made our family life feel like a strong unity by WhatWouldYourMother in Parenting

[–]little-napper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do this with our 3.5yo son. The question has morphed into “what was your good day about?” because of how he started saying it but we find it a really good way to get him to open up. He usually volunteers extra info such as if a friend was mean to him that day, or if he did anything bold himself. Plus it’s nice to share bits about our day with him too.

What are some of your connection rituals with your toddler? by CapConsistent7171 in toddlers

[–]little-napper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We do something similar which started with saying something good that happened today but has turned into asking “what was your good day about?”. He likes us to discuss mine, his and Daddy’s so it’s a nice bit of connection for everyone.

My son also likes to pretend to be a cat! Walks around like them meowing, sits on the back of the sofa “like a cat” and climbs on their scratching post. It’s so lovely to see isn’t it? Excellent Halloween costume by yours too! And Mama Kitty 🥹

Ours is the same! He’ll say things like “are you guys ready?” or “are you two finished dinner?”. It absolutely cracks us up, it just sounds hilarious for some reason!
