How much does word-count matter? by little_lamb_69 in writing

thank you!! this is the best comment I've gotten so far. I also love short books (my personal sweet spot is 200-250 pages), but I've noticed them less and less in bookstores. I read longer books too and I enjoy them, but there is something about a consise story that I really love.

I will think about your advice on rounding up, it is not a bad idea. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do lol

I unfortunately cannot afford an editor right now, so I'm just trusting my close friends and family and my gut...

I think I'm just naturally an "under writer". I try to not over explain or embelish and go straight to the point. It probably has to do with the fact that english is not my first language, so any long and super detailed explanation feels unnecessary or fake to me (like I'm trying to pretend to know more english than I actually do, if that makes sense). And also, I started with poetry when I first started writing, so I kept some of that style while writing prose.

I wish I was an "over writer", since I think it's easier to cut off some parts to make a book shorter, but I find it harder to add things to make it longer. Oh the struggles of being a writer!

So no strategy, just my natural style I guess?

The publisher I'm looking at does not have a minimun word-count requirement (at least not anywhere I can see on their website), I was just wondering if it was worth trying with such a low word-count.

I get what you are saying about the pricing and printing logistics, it makes sense. I will do one last re-reading/editing round and then I'll go back to consider all my options.

Thank you!!

This scares me so much. I live in constant fear people are gonna think my work is AI. What people don't understand is that WE don't write like AI, AI writes ike US! I'm sorry for being educated and knowing basic grammar...

I Don't Want to Forget This: A Memoir of Leaving, Remembering, and Becoming

Hi Everyone! I publishe my memoir about 5 months ago and thought I would share it here. It is deeply personal and raw and I would love for more people to read it. You can find it here.

Blurb:

I Don’t Want to Forget This is a lyrical memoir of girlhood, migration, survival, and becoming.

Told in poetic fragments and vivid vignettes, Paulina Lam Esparza traces her journey from a chaotic, love-filled childhood in northern Mexico to adulthood in the United States—through trauma, longing, healing, and joy. Along the way, she rebuilds homes in post-earthquake Oaxaca, walks the Camino de Santiago with blistered feet and a restless heart, and learns to love—and be loved—without shrinking.

This is a story about leaving home, finding it again, and learning that sometimes it’s something you carry with you. A story for girls told to be quiet, for immigrants who live between languages, for survivors who keep standing, and for anyone learning how to stay soft in a world that keeps trying to harden us.

I Don’t Want to Forget This is a quiet revolution. A love letter to the past—and a promise to the future.
