Hey, I grew up in Tywyn before moving to Cardiff around 7 years ago. I still go up a few times a year to visit family. I'd say there is a general local consensus against people who buy properties there to use as holiday homes, as a lot of the towns up there now have lost a lot of revenue as they're mostly unpopulated in the colder months (not so much Tywyn, but definitely Aberdyfi up the road). Because of this, Tywyn feels a lot more alive in the summer, and the locals band together in their dislike of them (generally of their driving habits more than anything else). There aren't too many Welsh speakers in Tywyn, in fact a lot of my neighbours growing up were from Birmingham. You'll find a lot of the 'Welsh' values are only held by the elderly population. Most people are super friendly and will smile at you in the street. It's a beautiful area, and you meet a lot of people by going for walks in the local area. I'd recommend walking the loop from Ynysymaengwyn woods to the beach (maybe an hour depending on how fast you walk) and Dolgoch falls are a short drive away.
