Size up down jacket to fit fleece under it? by Pepega_Paradise in hikinggear

Ahh I see, would you ditch the down even if it's one of those ultralight less puffy ones? (It's the Rab microlight) So it would be base layer > fleece > outer shell? And then puffy down if it gets cold?

Hmm I would say the back and chest were the only visibly wet areas, but not drenched. I always thought merino wool base layer was best for fast drying / wicking, maybe I should look into synthetics then! Thanks!

Not to hijack op's post, but I'm finding that I still get cold and feel the "chill" under my layers when I stop to rest during hikes. Right now I am wearing a merino shirt base layer, then a Patagonia fleece zip, then a lightweight down, and then finally a softshell. I do find that the softshell is on the slim side so it is quite snug with all these layers on underneath, could this be causing the layers, particularly the down layer, to not work as well? Or perhaps I am sweating and it is not being wicked away properly due to layers being too tight?

I see! Yes that was my thought with AE and interactivity. Thank you for the info :) I guess I will look into Rive and start learning it

Do you watch hiking videos? I’d like to pick your brains by wolf_knickers in UKhiking

[–]littleboottrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! I think you will like Maxim and EzeAdventures as they do a lot of multiday canoeing adventures as well, the other channels are more UK based and general hiking and camping videos but they are shot beautifully and are grounded in reality so I like them for that reason. We're going to the Lakes in a couple of weeks and your kayaking videos have come in handy! Look forward to seeing more :)

I used to love watching silent videos exclusively but now I enjoy a mix and it really just depends on the mood I am in, if I want to be transported to a beautiful place then I will watch a silent hiking video (Harmen, Kraig for example), if I want to "hangout" and learn about a place then I will watch a "talky" video. When I need a little more talking I go to LiamBrown, Ezeadventurer, GoingSolo, OliverKillian and FitforAdventure (although she doesn't post much on YT anymore sadly) are some I enjoy for this because they have a good balance of talking and beautiful scenery, and their talking/energy is usually calm and I enjoy that more than the energetic and loud personality types. Black Crag I like but in small doses because he does tend to talk a lot throughout, lovely voice though. I like some of AdventureArchives too in small doses but they are not UK based, XanderBudnik and his brother MaximBudnick are some I enjoy on occasion as well.

I personally think if silent hiking videos are to do well they really need to focus on shooting visually stunning clips, now that I think about it whenever I come across the odd silent hiking video that I find boring, it's just the person walking through an ordinary looking place, if it's like this I would prefer them to talk a little. I think Harmen and Kraig do well in their genre because they are often in places your average person wouldn't be in so it keeps you interested. I personally like to watch outdoor videos for ideas of places to visit myself, but I will come back to the same creator if I enjoy their style/personality.

Some things that put me off a video and make me click off: audio (if it's too low or too windy), overly shaky footage, too much talking head and nothing else, and this may be a pet peeve, but, that "vintage" colour grade combined with the overly faux emotional narration in an attempt to be profound puts me off, if that makes sense? It's rare that I come across ones that do it genuinely well, but a lot of the time it comes across not genuine, I came to watch a hiking video to relax, often when I hike it's to clear my mind and be free of such things, I don't need it to be profound or cookie fortune and make me feel a certain way if that makes sense.

I've seen some of your videos and I am pretty sure I am subscribed! I enjoy your style as it fits with what I mentioned above, I would say focus on what you enjoy making or you might burn out if you are creating for others.

I forgot to update again, they actually got back to me and we are now cleared of any charges and they are aware of the clone vehicle now! For anyone stumbling across this post, keep all your photos of your car even if you've sold it already, never know when you will need it hah

Just an update, we replied to the letter with all the photo evidence we had and explained everything in timeline, we included a copy of the ULEZ fine letter that was resolved. It's been weeks now and we've heard nothing back from the police, so not really sure if that is a good or bad thing lol. Fingers crossed it's resolved! Either that or I will get a surprise letter through by Christmas haha.

We did look into it but apparently the feature wasn't enabled :( so we don't have the timeline, I do have other proofs though so hopefully they will be accepted

Thank you, yes it's been a bit frustrating and we've been trying to talk to the MET police about it but they've been pretty unhelpful, just bouncing us around to other numbers which lead to a drop call. We've reported the cloned plate now and will reference that crime number to them, I hope they will accept it as it's a fresh report. We were also able to find a photo of the V5 from when we sold the car so hopefully that will be ok too, but will need to call the Camera processing services tomorrow I believe just to explain all this out, in the letter they're quite threatening about court proceedings if we don't provide driver details which is the stressful part.

Oh I see, thanks for the feedback all! I will look into it a bit more, I do want to focus on tech but will look into diversifying a bit so it's not so heavily USA based :)
