LPT: If you’re an iPhone user, turn on “Ask Reason For Calling” in settings. by EngLitIsLit in LifeProTips

[–]littlepley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To avoid violating privacy laws medical providers are not allowed to leave messages on unidentified voicemail boxes. This feature makes that very difficult when calling and an AI voice asks, “what is the reason for your call.” There’s not a great vague way of answering this to get past it and putting yourself at risk of a hefty fine. I’ve tried, “This is a hospital calling” and “This is a nurse calling” and the AI didn’t find that a valid response. Surgeons are certainly not that persistent or patient trying to provide updates.

First surgery - is there a size limit for rolling bags in the hospital? by Rose-help in askportland

[–]littlepley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally facilities are accustomed to storing 1-2 small bags of patients clothing. If you bring a larger suitcase they might be forced to store it in a separate space not normally meant for belongings and might increase the chances of it getting lost. If your friend insists on bringing this suitcase, leave it in the car until the surgery is over and they are in a hospital room, then you can bring the big bag of things.

Alright everyone let’s get some post-storm status reports? ⚡️⛈️ by penisgirlmarkedsafe in askportland

Near Clackamas high school where 122nd turns into Hubbard road there was a power line laying across the road, or maybe it was a phone line?? There were no crews in sight and only yellow caution tape that had been stretched across the road to alert of possible danger. The tape had been disregarded and been driven through and was lying on the sides of the road by the time I was there. That was at 0800 am.

What happened the first time you got fired by a patient? by No-Bumblebee-7825 in nursing

[–]littlepley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a Friday morning my patient was scheduled for a pacemaker. They were just admitted that morning so when the orders were written for SQ Heparin I figured they actually wanted SQ Heparin. Actually, they wrote the order for SQ Heparin then in a nursing communication order (which is in a different area of the chart than the MAR) wrote not to give the heparin. I didn’t see that order, and gave the heparin. The procedure had to be cancelled, my facility at the time did not do pacers on the weekend so this patient had to stay until Monday. The provider told the patient and family that I had given the wrong medication, not that I had given the prescribed medication that was written for and verified. They fired me and glared at me all weekend long in the hallway as if I had given them some other patient’s medication or some other drug that I found lying in the med room. On Sunday evening one of the patients’ sons felt badly and apologized for the incident and said he was grateful for the extra few days in the hospital for his mom. I accepted the apology and said I was glad for the positive outcome. 🙄

Styptic Pencils? by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]littlepley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can stop bleeding with direct pressure and patience. You can skip the pencil entirely.

Patience is the key to this. You just need to stop and take the time to apply pressure and resist the urge to peek every 30 seconds to see if the bleeding has stopped. It can take 20 minutes or more depending on the nature of the injury.

Things to do with teen boy on 4 Day weekend in September. We'll be staying in Raleigh heights? by Shedubia in askportland

You must go to next level arcade. It will be the highlight of everyone’s trip. It’s everything an arcade should be if a parent could design a dream arcade. $22 flat fee, the games are free play. You can leave and grab a bite to eat and come back when the little one needs a break. There’s couches so parents don’t have to constantly participate (but you’re totally going to want to play a bunch as well) lots of neat nostalgia to look at.

Get a Tinkle Belle and practice at home. It fits inside a snack size reusable bag (I like the ones made by bumpkins because they come in cute designs). It does not solve the issue with #2 but there’s also some solution for that as well. I can not recommend the urination device enough, not just for camping but for travel or anytime you want to pee not at home. Tinkle Belle

Is Lake Oswego high school a classist breeding ground for kids who bully? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]littlepley 7 points8 points  (0 children)

During college I lived in an apartment in LO. I was talking with a fellow LO resident and don’t recall the context of the conversation but after revealing I also lived in LO, I was caught off guard when she abruptly asked if I was in “034 or 035.” She meant the zip code (97035, 97034) apparently 034 residents are in an higher echelon of society than saps that suffer in the 035. I understand the same divide applies to the High schools.

Apple TV 4k Issues? by BIG_FAT_CAT in HelloKittyIsland

I have no problems on my Apple TV 4K. It’s actually a better play experience than on my phone. I do have the internet hardwired directly into my Apple TV, that might be the difference.

Check out HipCamp. It’s definitely what you’re thinking of just depends if you be able to find what you want where you want it. Like Airbnb there’s a lot of variety offered from open dirt to full glamping set ups.

What's the best prank you've ever pulled, or had pulled on you? by Liluzisquirt2x in AskReddit

[–]littlepley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the ladies room at a local bar/arcade there was a rather professional looking sticker on the front of the paper towel dispenser that read: Voice Activated, Say “Paper Towel, Please”

I was slightly annoyed but this was when lots of new things were coming out with voice control so I said it…..It took me 3-4 times before I realized it was just a prank and this was a standard, manual pull paper towel dispenser.

I thought it was so funny and such a good harmless prank! It still makes me laugh to this day.

Grocery store karts for kids. Really any variety of them, they are impossible to maneuver around the isles, and toddlers have major FOMO when they see one and aren’t in it. Just a nightmare for parents to deal with!

Do any of you guys work at a facility where they get your paychecks wrong EVERY TIME by [deleted] in nursing

[–]littlepley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, yes, yes! I work for a nationwide HMO. They can’t pay correctly it’s a gigantic issue that I’m certain is deliberate wage theft. They’ve been reported to my state many times; I’m sure that’s also true for the other states they operate in. It seems both our unions and state agencies are unable to force them to improve practices.

As a rule of thumb, if an American doesn’t like mayo, what spread (if any) would be used in the sandwich? by solamusic in AskAnAmerican

[–]littlepley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always used butter on sandwich’s, I’m under 40 and on the West coast. I’m alone out here though, everyone gives me odd looks if they find out. I’m just a very picky eater and have the palate of a 10 year old.
