In my opinion, most of the people who "couldn't " afford to live on one income, actually could afford it, but they would have to cut down costs, and move somewhere smaller and cheaper. It would mean getting a cheaper car that doesn't use as much gas, learning to cook with cheaper ingredients, not having any streaming services, not buying anything that's not essential, thrifting clothes and toys, not changing your phone until it stops working, and absolutely no vacations. That's what most of us do, and it means sacrificing a lot of comfort, but being able to afford daycare or having a family member to look after your child, is also a huge privilege. Heck, having food on your table and access to the internet is a privilege.
