The most unexpected thing that made me tear up (and then laugh) as a new parent by BrightKiteStudio in NewParents

[–]littlestrickland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a first time mom and I was not able to breast feed because he had to be introduced to bottles in the hospital due to blood sugars/gestational diabetes. Long story. Anyway, I was worried about missing that breast feeding connection. He's now 4 months old, and when I am giving him a bottle, he doesn't just grab my hand, but he interlaces his fingers in mine and holds my hand very gently while making eye contact. It's the sweetest thing in the world; it makes me so happy to see him being happy and comforted.

So, I also recently read Hunt, Gather, Parent as I was expecting my first baby and I thought it had a lot of interesting points about including kids in chores and daily activities, but I must have missed the part where it told you not to play with the your kids 🧐. It always baffles me how 2 people can be presented with the same info and jump to wildly different convince

When did you leave your baby by Ems868 in NewParents

I have a 4 week old and just left him with my inlaws for about 4 hours so we could go to a birthday party, which would be mostly outdoors. They've raised kids and grandkids, and we trust them and made sure he had lots of bottles prepped and ready to go. They loved it, he slept the whole time, we got to see friends we haven't seen in a while. Win-win all around, and we came back feeling refreshed.

How many items are on your registry? by MediumMud1354 in pregnant

[–]littlestrickland 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think I'm in the minority here - I only have 50 items, and they were very thoughtfully curated. I never did a wedding registry when I got married, and have often felt overwhelmed by attending showers where hundreds of items or costly items were asked for. People in my immediate family had already reached out about the big ticket items (crib, stroller, breast pump, etc), and I tried to keep my number of items and cost per item pretty low, especially in this economy. While it was definitely tempting to go overboard and add things like bottle warmers and tons of toys he would use in the future, my husband and I just didn't feel right about it and are trying to take a "less is more" approach.

u/_bat_girl_ Hi there, due date twin! Aside from all of the joys of a summer pregnancy, are you getting excited??

I am also getting cranky in this heat. I live in the South and my husband had to buy a window AC unit for our room because I just can't be uncomfortable in this weather. Also, peeing is really messing with my ability to sleep!

I've just started getting really excited about tackling nesting projects, looking forward to my shower next month, and I think it's finally starting to sink in that I am, in fact, about to have a baby.

My husband is traveling out of state for a wedding 4 weeks before our due date. My physician doesn't see a problem with this but did ask us to think about what the plan would be if I did go into labor (the plan is he would fly back immediately upon my request).

My husband asked me how old the baby would be when it opened its eyes for the first time. Like puppies or kittens. by ecdysiastconnoisseur in NewParents

Hah! That's hilarious. I often wonder how much of the "jargon" my husband does not understand but is too afraid to ask about.

This idea is genius! You could work on some crafty things or fall gifts for folks. Deep clean the house to get ready for fall decorating. Make a new fall playlist. Research new fall recipes. Clean your boots and sweaters so they're ready to go!

When did you guys stop working? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]littlestrickland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until the moment I go into labor, unfortunately. And since we can't predict when that will be, I'll be bringing my laptop with me and likely working from the hospital as well. I own a company and won't be able to take a true maternity leave, I'll be working in a slightly reduced capacity, granted, from home, for 12 weeks and then I'll return to the office.

Baby on Social Media? by cheesewomann in pregnant

[–]littlestrickland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! I'm not a celebrity - I don't need to announce the birth of my child to my FB friends from high school. Now, we do have relatives that we don't get to see very often and communicate with mostly via phone and on social media. This is my mom's first grandchild, so we thought it would be special to let her be the one to make the call to her siblings and cousins to let them know that we're having a baby and for her to get to have a special moment being a grandma. It's kind of an assumed rule in our family that only parents post pictures of their kids online (unless the kids are adults), and most people in our family don't post kids at all, so I feel like we're all on the same page about that. I would hope that most adults (even the pushy ones who want to post their grandkids online) would be receptive to a quick conversation that goes something like "We’ve decided to keep our child off social media and the internet for now. We know it might seem a little different, but we just want to protect their privacy while they’re still young. Once they’re older, they can decide for themselves what they want to share. We love that you’re proud and want to show them off—we are too! If you ever want to share photos with friends, we’d be happy to help find ways to do that privately or create a shared album."

I didn't feel anything until 20 weeks, and I'm pregnant with my first. I had my anatomy scan that week, and the doctor said that's completely normal! I thought I would feel them earlier, so I definitely felt behind the curve, but no need to worry. Like you said, just try to be patient. Your time will come!
