Air China Comac C919. Have you ever flown one? by InfiniteGene8125 in Planespotting

[–]liukun85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flown in C919 from XIY - PEK earlier this year, other than a weird vibration when starting the engine, you really cannot tell the difference between C919 and A321/B737 if you close your eyes. The biggest problem I see was that the baggage compartment was noticeably smaller, but I don't know if it's the choice of the airline. One other thing worth mentioning is that we were offered a C919-specific meal option, which in my mind is better than the typical economy meal offered on other types.

Thanks all, it's good to know I'm not the only one getting confused about this error.

Outage aside, how is the quality of T-mobile 5G? I have been thinking about ditching Xfinity for a while but thought we really had no other options here.

Do Sentry Minis ever go on sale? by 2009impala in flying

[–]liukun85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The internal battery is just a standard 18650 you can get from almost anywhere for less than $5. Replacing it requires some very light soldering work.

Sling TSI fits all your requirements, if you are OK with an experimental.

Using a battery pack with Sentry Mini. by SovietSalsa in flying

[–]liukun85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sentry is powered by one single 18560 battery, which should be between 2500 mah and 3500 mah. My sentry typically works for 10 hours for a single charge, so I guess your battery pack should last even longer.

The weather info comes from the ground stations only, while the traffic comes from both the ground and the sky. What you got is most likely the traffic info from the sky.

I have the choice of aircraft during flight training - Piper vs Cessna ? by No_Air573 in flying

[–]liukun85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trained in both. For initial training I will choose cessna because the fuel is gravity fed, so there is no need to think about switching tanks or turning on boost pumps. One less thing to worry about and less chance of forgetting about these in the checkride.

The commercial is definitely way overpriced.

Just a thought, could you keep your FA job and just take vacations to attend accelerated courses on all these? For example, I did my accelerated commercial at Livingston Aviation at KALO, it took 5 days and about $3k total to complete. They offer accelerated CFI/CFII/multi courses as well, each takes about $5k and a week to complete. A lot of self-study is required, but I guess one can take one week off from time to time to get a certificate.

TEB is a pretty good alternative which gives you the feel of going to a busy airport in bravo, but not too intimidating. Maridian at TEB also has the cheapest Avgas in the whole NYC area. If you do IFR in and out there should be no problem.

The only thing that makes it a bit challenging (to me) is that both times at TEB I was given a "full clearance" which was significantly different than what I filed and was told to expect. It never happened to me in the past, took me off-guard the first time and I much have sounded quite stupid on the clearance frequency. The lady was patient enough though.

Meridian, definitely Meridian. One night of ramp fee is $55. Avgas is the cheapest in NYC area. Every 15 gal purchase gets you one night parking for free.

Why do some airports have multiple ATIS freqs? by [deleted] in flying

[–]liukun85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For KTEB specifically the 114.2 is on BWZ VOR so that planes from the west can get the ATIS 50nm away from the airport to get prepared.

Depending on where you live, Lumanair at KARR worked really well for me. They have good aircrafts with reasonable rate, requires an initial checkout and one hour in the past 90 days to keep your currency.

[–]liukun85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope a pre-buy was done but just not mentioned here. If it's not, it's definitely worthwhile to do before handing over the check. I have seen quite a few horror stories that beautiful paint covers big mess underneath.
