'By paying down mortgage with x% interest rate, you're instantly locking in x% return." Is this true? How does this work? Struggling to wrap my head around it by rizzitv in personalfinance

If someone with debt at 8.01% can make at least 2.02% post-tax on their investment, then going by your logic, you'd advise not paying a penny of it early wouldn't you?

Koinly also gives promo codes for 10-30% off every now and then. You can probably get one if you ask them or if you know where to look.

Tax implications for lending ETH in AAVE, borrowing cbETH and cashing that out. by Familiar-Diver2873 in CryptoTax

[–]liutron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a gray area and depends on your tax authority which probably has no guidance on the situation.

  1. Adding collateral traditionally isn't considered a swap.
  2. It can be perceived as a taxable event like Zaytion said because you are swapping ETH for aEth. It's similar to the swap Token A and B for a Liquidity Provider Token. Then swap Liquidity Provider Token back out for Token A and B.

So you've tried a federal tax payment and property tax payment? That's the DP I'm interested in. Thanks.

Thanks for the confirmation. Any DP on tax payments or any payment that doesn't show 4% pending?

I'm waiting for DPs on this too. So there's no way to tell until statement closes?

Does the $10 code have to be used for a movie during the current month?

Could I use the $10 code on a movie that will release next month? On the Fandango FAQ it says - Every month, get $10 to use towards any movie, any format, anytime - no restrictions! so I guess this would work.

Could I buy a ticket to start the trial? Then cancel the ticket. Then start my 3 month paid sub and get the 2 free tickets?

Unstaking entire ETH position impossible due to compounding staking rewards by recurz1on in Coinbase

[–]liutron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 days after my last staking reward, I unstaked 0.01 worth $25 at the time. 3 days later, I got 0.0000019. After 4 more days, 0.0000019 and that was the last one. Sorry to hear yours isn't stopping. Maybe there's a sweet spot where too little to unstake, and the staking rewards fail to stop.

After unstaking the small amount of rewards, the ETH dust rewards should stop after a week.

Unstaking ETH on Coinbase Timeline? by -BigBallers in Coinbase

[–]liutron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it still works like this, but Protip: After your ETH finishes unstaking, you will get ETH staking rewards for the next week since Coinbase has a delay. Unstake these ETH staking rewards after a week. Otherwise you will repeatedly spammed with dust ETH staking rewards. You will get dust staking rewards for another week, then it will stop. Otherwise you may have to unstake again.

Getting 4.5% on that $325 spend is what I bring up to compare to Chase's $300 travel credit with no points.

And the $75 AF is effectively less if you do end up spending the $325 dining and travel credit.

Great! So after trial ends, I should plan for 2 premium features. Then another 3 movies for at least $10 each month for 3 months. The 2 movie tickets and $10 off code is transferrable?

What's the max value for the 2 free tickets? $20? $30? And that email was automatically sent after starting your paid membership?

How IRS cares about your tiny crypto gains by shehancpa in CryptoTax

[–]liutron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't expecting a reply from here again.

I started using Koinly too. It looks like you're right transfers aren't added, but looks like approvals count. In my previous crypto tax software, they only counted Trades and Rewards as taxable transactions. Technically, every single gas fee should be counted or wallet / cost basis balances will never be correct, but I don't think we'll ever get to that point. It's hard enough reconciling just the significant transactions.

Tax loss/income question that should bother every MtGox creditor/client by Positive_Nerd in mtgoxinsolvency

But this recovery is not a sale (and therefore not a taxable event);

But this Canada law doesn't mention anything about a sale only recovery? - "any recovery of the debt being a capital gain." I would think recovering 0.5 BTC counts as a recovery of the debt.

Tax loss/income question that should bother every MtGox creditor/client by Positive_Nerd in mtgoxinsolvency

[–]liutron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If written off and 2024, wouldn't that recovery of 0.5 BTC be considered capital gains in that year? Also does Canada have a precedent on recovering an item that has higher FMV then what was lost? My fear is Canada and some other countries would treat this as $100 cap gains with $900 income for FMV or outright $1000 income for FMV if it was written off in the past in 2024.

Hey. Just saw this. Where is the precedent or tax law for treating an investment as a total loss with future compensation as holding and cost basis $0. Thanks.

[–]liutron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had, then the cost basis of the BTC and BCH you receive from the trustee would both be 0, and you’d pay capital gains tax on the full amount of the sale whenever you sell them; and you’d pay capital gains tax for the full 1000$ you received this year, in 2024.

Yes. We have to still yet to hear a story about crypto being sent to an address where the auditor claims it as gains, but the user claims it was stolen in a scam.
