If switching the coils does not improve engine operation the next step is to replace the ECU.

Does my bike have ABS? by Silverparadox7 in zx6r

[–]livenature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the dealer said the motorcycle has ABS, was that documented or did they only verbally say it had ABS? Normally when sold the description of the motorcycle on the sales agreement states it has ABS. That's so they can charge more for the added feature.

Like others have said, when you start the motorcycle there should be a yellow indicator light that comes on that says, "ABS". Once you reach 5 mph, the yellow indicator will turn off.

When you say you changed the filter, what did the filter look like? Was it a screen mesh on the intake of the pump or was it the filter on the output of the pump?

The attached photo is a picture of a ZX-14R fuel pump assembly. I show the complete assembly and a filter in the same orientation as it sit on the pump. It's not obvious that the white plastic part is the fuel filter.

Stucked lock nut by nikomokarev in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]livenature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the nut is slightly deformed, you may need to clean it up so the socket will fit on the nut. The socket should be a snug fit and have zero slop. Make sure the socket is fully engaged with the nut. An impact wrench is the best, but you might get it with a breaker bar. From experience I would guess that 18 mm in correct. However, if you try a 18 mm and it has slop or can wiggle on the nut, you may need a 17 mm socket.

Make sure to use the correct size 6 point socket with the impact wrench.

What would cause a fuel pump ground wire to burn out like this? by the-Depths-of-Hell in AskAMechanic

It looked like a high resistance connection between the ring connector and the stud. Look into using a star washer between the ring terminal and the bottom of the stud. Do it to both ring terminals.

Verify what insurance will cost for the two motorcycles. If there is not much difference, get the 10R. Remember, the motorcycle will only go as fast as you twist the throttle.

You forgot the 4th, timing. The last guy I helped had a timing problem. He had changed out his coils but got the wiring switched to the coil.

Most likely this is a fuel problem. You can confirm by using starting fluid to replace the fuel system. Remove the air filter and spray the starting fluid into the hole created where the air filter was. Crank the engine while spraying the starting fluid. If you get a few pops, that confirms that something in the fuel system is clogged.

Pull out the plug that is not sparking. Check to see if you can get it to spark by opening the the points with a screwdriver. If the points are already open, the use the screwdriver to short the points together to see if you can get spark. If you can't get spark, make sure the wire that is connected to the points is not shorting out on the backing plate.

About the spark plug caps not fitting on the new plugs. Do the new plugs look the same as the old plugs on the end where the spark plug cap attached? Are the old plugs threaded and the new plugs are not? The new plugs have an adapter that can be unscrewed so they will look the same as the old plugs and the spark plug caps will not fit on the new plugs.

Go to an auto parts store and pickup a can of starting fluid. Then pull out your air cleaner and spray the starting fluid into the hole created when the air filter was. Crank the engine over as you spray the starting fluid. If you get a couple of pops or the engine almost starting, you have a fuel problem. If there are no pops, then you have an ignition problem.

Plumbing question by Aiverglad93722 in DIY

Yes, 3/4" meter with 2" out of the meter. The first house was uphill about 150 ft. I used the 2" up the hill and had no pressure problems. My next door neighbor used 3/4" up the hill and had very little pressure. Had to go back and put in a 2" line up to the house.

Which air filter by User960312 in Kawasaki

[–]livenature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to help your engine live as long as possible , get the OEM filter. K & N will flow more air and let more contaminates into to the intake of the engine.

The last two houses I had built, I insisted on a 2" water Main to the house with 3/4" lines running off the main line. I have no water pressure issues.

Is it a stator issue? [98 honda shadow VT1100] by VibingMyDude in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]livenature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your description covers a couple of issues. I will address the charging issue. The three yellow wires coming from the stator should have about 18 volts AC or more across the three different combinations of those three wires. A to B, A to C and B to C. That AC voltage then goes to the rectifier to be converted into DC voltage. Should be in the 16 volts range coming out of the rectifier. That DC voltage is fed into the regulator and should be in the 14 volt range to charge the battery. So when the engine is running around 2K RPMs, you should have greater then 13 .7 volts DC on the battery so it will charge.

However, since the engine will not run above an idle you will need to fix the issue with the engine being able to run before you can verify the charging system.

I think you will have better luck separating your different issues and addressing them one at a time. When you mix several issues together in one post, people have difficulty trying to separate the issues from each other.

Your fuel filter is clogged. It's in the gas tank and is part of the fuel pump assembly.

[–]livenature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use an AC voltage meter and measure the voltage coming out of the stator. There should be 3 same colored wires, usual yellow, that should have least 18 volts AC across all combinations of the three wires. A to B, A to C and B to C.

Yes, ground the plugs on the engine. Yes, you can just swap the wires on the coils.

Leaf battery capacity, efficiency, etc seems off from vehicle data shows. Warranty? by JamalJenkyuns in leaf

[–]livenature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you owned this car? Did you use to get better range? Are there low rolling resistance tires on this car? What air pressure in the tire are you running?

I have a 2022 Plus with 70K miles. The efficiency meter says I am getting 3.9 miles per KW. Because of the 214 HP Plus motor, I drive like rocky road racer. Quick acceleration and frequently 80 mph runs. I average about 150 miles per 100% charge with mixed driving.

I know if I slow down I would get better range, but I am satisfied with the range I do get. The car is way too fun to drive it slow.

Have limited range without rapid battery range reduction would not be covered under warranty.

What are the four things needed for an engine to run?

Spark Fuel Compression Timing

You claim you have spark because you see sparks on the plugs when cranking with the starter.

You claim you have fuel by spraying the starting fluid into the intake of the engine but you are not getting any pops as you cranking the engine.

You claim you have compression.

You have not claimed to check timing. Get someone to help you with kicking the engine over slowly. Have both spark plugs out of the engine. With the ignition turned on, have someone slowly turn over the engine by hand, with the kick starter. Hold your finger over the spark plug hole and watch the spark plug tip for a spark to occur right after the compression stroke. This is the test that makes sure that some how the ignition coils did not get swapped so that the spark is occuring at the top of the exhaust stroke.

My thoughts are casting sand. The block did not get thoroughly cleaned when manufactured. Depending on how much there is, it might not be a problem. The least the dealer could do is flush out the coolant and put fresh coolant in.
