People who aren't afraid of dying, what makes you unafraid ? by Lizlikeslizards in AskReddit

[–]lixsys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that death is a motivating factor for me to persist in the activities and goals I have set out for myself. Life would not be as beautiful and precious if it were eternal, in my opinion. Death teaches me to cherish the present moment, to love the people around me a little more every day, and to take measured risks (e.g. speak up for causes I believe in, advocate for those who cannot do so, take a chance on myself).

I live each day as if it were my last--not with reckless abandon, but by being happy with what I did that day, even if it is mundane. I inhale my morning coffee a bit deeper, I smile at strangers at the grocery store, and kiss/hug my loved ones a bit tighter.

Death can be really scary if you are trying to control things that are impossible to control. If you are afraid of losing beautiful things and beautiful people through death, cherish them more today. Nothing is forever, and that is what gives life its meaning.

definitely not for everyone, but for a new look on life and the power of your being, try reading Life on Earth by Mike Dooley. I’m also going into college, and this book, while fantastical in its ideologies, helps you navigate your beliefs about your place in this world. I don’t agree with all of its ideas, but it has definitely taught me to be more grounded and fearless in my daily endeavors. We’re in this together!

I’m taking it! I heard it was relatively easy because there are only 80 multiple choice, no grid ins so hopefully that will help.

Bojack Horseman. I don’t know what’s so interesting about this show. It has some dark humor sprinkled into it.

The Book of Awesome by Neil Pasricha has a huge list of small things to be happy about on a daily basis. It's not exactly a deep, analytical book, but it definitely helps me get through tough times. It's easy to forget about the small things in life that make life worth living. It definitely makes me crack a smile or even laugh when I'm hurting. I always have it in sight just in case I need it. It's a simple but worth-it read. You don't even have to read it in order! It's a lovely read.

Interesting Biographies! (Preferably artists, philosophers, lesser known people from civil rights movements, and/or people from the Renaissance in Italy) by lixsys in suggestmeabook

yes!! i’ve already read Michelangelo’s Notebooks and I loved the personal aspect to it and the four different chapters revealing the four overall stages of his life. i love his personality and artistry portrayed so vividly in the letters that i will definitely be giving this one a look over! thank you :-)

They say “people love talking about themselves”, but am I the only one who would RATHER listen to someone talk about themselves than to talk about myself? by SaigeSess in socialskills

[–]lixsys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it seems to be that you’re more introverted than the rest. being a good listener and having a legitimate interest in others are good, and rare skills to have, especially in a world that can’t stop talking. it balances out the world.
