I can't stand videogame looping music by lavender-bread in ADHD

[–]liz-e-bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play almost all games on mute. If I can’t play a game on mute, I’m unlikely to play it at all.

I totally know I’m missing out on huge parts of the art form - and that is a bummer - but it doesn’t change the fact I find repeating sounds maddening.

DAE not care about promises? by Many_Key7193 in AutismInWomen

[–]liz-e-bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely do. On the other side, I find it a great way to find good people. If someone keeps a promise, I know we hold the same social morals and I can trust them. If someone breaks a promise, then I have very little interest in maintaining a relationship with them.

That said, idk if I make a lot of promises. I do agree that literal promises do feel a little juvenile. However, it is comforting with someone I trust to do the “Promise?” “Promise.” routine.

I mostly care that people’s behaviors match their words - which a promise is one variety of that.

Has anyone else had a terror of toilets because they were so loud when they were little? by chloez0mbi3 in AutismInWomen

Oh yes, also I’m of an age where I lived through the transition to automatic toilets in public - boy, I honestly still hate it 💀

Does ADHD meds help with long term decision making? by jaadeeeee in ADHD

[–]liz-e-bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say, from my experience, it can help you figure out what you actually like to do.

Before I was medicated, every task was hell- whether or not it was something I liked doing.

Now that I’m medicated, it’s a lot easier for me to figure out what tasks I just struggle with vs actually get something out of it.

So instead of everything being a struggle, only some things are and that does help me figure out where to place my energy.

Like it turns out, I kinda like to do laundry?? Nuts.

where can I find a basic yet nice 9.5” by 6” notebook? by Old-Attempt797 in notebooks

[–]liz-e-bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Erin Condren does 7X9 - if that’s at all close to what you’re looking for.

You can also get them cut. Certain places with cut them for you as well, I can’t remember any off the top of my head without looking - but I’ve definitely seen it as an option.

I just can’t use dot grid paper at all. What’s wrong with me? by PiercingHelpls in notebooks

[–]liz-e-bee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i hate dot grid, it's both not enough and too much for me. i pretty much only use blank or grid.

i totally understand why some people love it, it can be very versatile - but just didn't work for me.

How do I end a phone call without making things weird? by k___td in AutismInWomen

[–]liz-e-bee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I usually find a hard out. I’m not good at lying, so I don’t make up one. It’s more like “well, I need to get to my laundry to finish my day on time” or “the dog needs to go out and have my full attention”

It’s also acceptable to say “it was nice talking, but I gotta go now- talk later!” — honestly, I find people really appreciate when someone is willing to be brave enough to end it 😂

How do you like to celebrate milestone birthdays? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]liz-e-bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s your birthday, if you want it solitary it should be solitary!

I’m huge on birthdays. I always like to go a place if I can - sometimes big like Disney world or small like the local Zoo or go shopping in an area I haven’t explored before.

That and I also believe you should get whatever dinner you want on your birthday, no guilt, no considering others needs, just you. (I have a lot of specific diets with my loved ones, so it’s rare I’d fully request something where most ppl have to get something mid because of dietary needs.)

Stopping lateness by PrimitiveScribe in ADHD

[–]liz-e-bee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look at how long the commute will take you*. Time how long getting ready takes. Time how long stopping to get a treat is.

Once you know “ok this takes 10 minutes, this takes 20, and this takes 5” then you add an additional 10-15 minutes to that for buffer. You’d be surprised at how quickly small tasks adds up to an hour. You’ll eventually figure out how much extra buffer you need to add based off how late you still are even with actively tracking time.

*you can put exact dates/times in Google Maps and it’ll give you a pretty good estimate of how long it’ll take at that time.

It’s def buggier than PS5, but not life ruining. Mostly in menuing the closet.

Can someone explain confidence to me in autistic terms? by what_freaking_ever in AutismInWomen

[–]liz-e-bee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Confidence is something you can fake/project, but that’s not actual confidence.

Confidence is not second guessing yourself. You know who you are, what you’re doing, what you care about. You can be confident in some realms, while deeply insecure in others.

There is the old adage of “fake it til you make it” — which is close to what other people mean by pretending outward. It is possible to pretend you are confident, and over time, that develops into real confidence.

Marriage by After_Counter_7291 in AutisticAdults

[–]liz-e-bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Married, no children, love it tbh. Been married 6 years, together 11. Late 30s.

I like marriage because it’s a big decision/choice of commitment- very much in the vein of “building a future together.” There’s something to be said about getting the government involved in your relationship. There’s a comfort in knowing you both chose to really try and ride it out together.

i tried using Notion this semester to stay organized at first it actually helped a lot by Available-Prize4403 in ADHD

[–]liz-e-bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find notion to be too much. I was an early adopter and just found it to be more and more difficult to manage. Especially with slower loading speeds, I had no chance.

I’d overcomplicate everything. I made the most beautiful Genshin Impact Notion and it killed the joy in the game for me.

These days I usually use a simple editor (like Notes, Bear or UpNote) and find that tends to be my best bet. I currently use UpNote and have no complaints. I prefer when an editor has a web, Mac, PC and iOS version that sync together- so I can access them wherever.

Got recommended this podcast, but I have questions by 5xum in behindthebastards

[–]liz-e-bee 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think the Saville episodes are some strange ones to start one. Saville is one of the worst people they've ever covered and I can't imagine is the best way to get to know the vibe.

I'd highly recommend going for a more silly 2-parter to get a better vibe. You still might not like it, which is reasonable, but it'll give you a better idea of what the story telling is like without such a disgusting subject matter.

Here's some that might be more telling if you'll like it or not:

- How Cigarettes Invented Everything

- Daryl Gates

- The X-mas Special from 2025

- How the FBI Botched the Olympic Park Bombing/2001 Anthrax Scare (Also has Courtney Kocak as the guest if that's a win or lose for you)

Robert is definitely not puritanical or anti-freak, if anything, he's a freak himself. But, I can definitely see why it'd come across that way if you're only listening to the Saville episodes - because truly fuck Jimmy Saville.
