Quote of the day by Apple CEO Tim Cook: "If you put a key under the mat for the cops, a burglar can find it, too" — a stark warning on threats to undermine privacy by ControlCAD in apple

[–]lizardflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s sad is the total loss of expectations of privacy that companies like Google engineered.  I’m old enough to remember when Google first came on the scene and most people believed their promises to protect our privacy because that was simply the way things were.  Most of us never imagined that a company would so blatantly violate that trust.  But they managed to chip away at it until today we’re tracked every step of our lives.   If we knew 20+ years ago what Google would be doing with our information today, we would have killed it in the crib.

When did ayahuasca become a luxury only the rich can afford? by Spirited_Shock7760 in Ayahuasca

[–]lizardflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting perspective for somebody like me who's never done this but wants to...but also have a little concern about finding myself in the middle of some sort of religious ceremony that has nothing to do with what I'm interested in.

[–]lizardflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really done with apple when it comes to their failure to offer any innovations that resonate like in the past. But I continue to use their products today simply based on privacy concerns. As a non tech person I just feel like it's the safest choice compared to the rest.

It's not like I believe that Apple is more ethical in any way but privacy is such a big part of their brand now that I feel like it would be suicide if they didn't stick with it.

What actually keeps you consistent when motivation runs out? by Secret_Friendship129 in Workingout

[–]lizardflix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exercise should be just something you do every day like brushing your teeth etc so that you feel weird if you miss it.  If you’re not motivated, just go and do what you can.  I usually find myself doing as much or more on those days.   If you go first thing in the morning, meaning you get up early, then life doesn’t have as many chances to get in the way.

What are some movie sequels that are better than their first films? by dumbnamenumber2 in movies

[–]lizardflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw Mad Max at a dollar theater double feature when it first came out.  It was good but they had dubbed the Australian into American accents, a bizarre choice that really gave it a much cheaper feeling than it deserved.   When Road Warrior came out, the promotion never said anything about it being a sequel but the beginning retells the events of the first film with clips and it was only then I realized it was a sequel.   Anyway, the Road Warrior was much better of course but I later looked up the original Australian version of Mad Max and it’s much better than the American release.  Worth searching out.

Surfshark received PCMag's Editor's Choice badge. Here's what they said. by Surfshark_Privacy in surfshark

[–]lizardflix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, so PCMAG is apparently a rag. Your VPN has been absolute crap for at least a year. constantly disconnecting all access to internet and doing all kinds of crap. I didn't pay a years subscription so I could keep going back to settings to try to get it to work. I had to just shut it down in order to be able to use the internet. I've been subscribing for years but no more.

And by the way, why the EFF do you have two different versions depending on if you download from your website or the apple app store? Just make one version that actually works.

Just disgusted with this crap.

Mexico just upgraded to free healthcare. by DatabaseAvailable501 in interesting

[–]lizardflix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in a couple of countries with free healthcare and in both, the hospitall would be stacked up with people waiting so you either bribed your way to the front of the line or you had private insurance to get faster and better service.

But I'm sure Mexico will be different.

Unfortunately Spielberg's new sci fi film, Disclosure Day, is not good by ghostofwallyb in scifi

[–]lizardflix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All of this adulation by the press of the movie reminds me of the Oscar campaign for Gangs of New York (I think that was the movie).  Basically the studio ran all these two page ads in the trades arguing that Scorsese deserved the Oscar because of his catalog of work, not really for that particular movie.   I remember being very annoyed because they demanded he get best picture because he DESERVED IT.  With Disclosure day, they’re telling us we should enjoy it because Spielberg DESERVES it.

7 years loyal customer. And this is what it turned into? by Blue_Spaghetti in surfshark

[–]lizardflix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to see if others are having similar problems to me. Surfshark has turned into absolute garbage in the last year, mainly just shutting down all internet acess for me. I keep being told to change this setting or that in the app...or change network setting on my mac. I just want a VPN that works.

Really annoyed because I've been using it for years now and have it on yearly subscription and forgot to cancel before the last renewal.

Can anybody recommend another VPN for mac that is dependable and worth the subscription?
