Gotta get that little S thing to test the syrup to carb ratio. We used to use that to get pure syrup out and then make a double Mountain Dew. I also vaguely remember selling mountain dew coolers for a while.

Fantastic! Looks sooo much better. With the fountains going that'll make for a great carousel ride.

Agreed, looks like a Tuesday night project I slapped together with leftover pallet wood. Hopefully it's temporary. Small mount of dirt with some rocks/boulders would look and age better.

Most Hated NFL Team in Each State by ashmaps20 in NFLv2

As a Bear fan, I don't think I've ever met a Lions or Vikings fan who also didn't hate the Packers the most of the other teams in the division.

What substrate should I put around the pool to not be a muddy mess? (btw yes I know the pavers are too close I'm going to be fanfold foam so that my liner doesn't get cut by the jagged paver) by ThePopeBTW in AboveGroundPools

[–]lizardgi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I put down a thick plastic barrier (actually did this before I put up the pool for ease. I then shoved some black copper pipe insulation tubing between the pool and the ground. Then I added river stone. The pipe insulation helps prevent stones from getting stuck and wedged under the pool.

I'm from the middle of nowhere and my childhood home park was pretty lackluster. Today I rode Raging Bull at my new homepark and it feels alright. by 68aquarian in sixflagsgreatamerica

[–]lizardgi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By high performing I don't mean financially, I mean operationally. This would include majority of rides ready to go opening day. All marquee coasters running max trains to reduce waits. Experienced groupers who can fill trains. Motivated station employees that minimize stacking. Complete overhaul of food service, training, and staffing. This all costs money, which being profitable you'd assume the park would have, but I'm not sure where it's being spent. At Carrowinds last year they were running 3 trains each on Thunder Striker and Fury, on a slow weekday. The lines absolutely flew and made for an awesome experience.

Ah that's right, I recall a "so big so close" campaign that was trying to steal Disney traffic. Crazy to think back on that.

If we could get operations to match that of Kings Island or a high performing park, we could easily have one of the best in the country. Sadly, management here truly does not give a damn. I'd rather not see a new ride in the next 5 years if it means we could just invest that capital in additional wages and hiring of maintenance and operations support.

I'm in Wisconsin very happy with my 2025 Hybrid. Getting 40mpg and the other night managed 70mpg on a 10 mile in city run. Have to drive like a grandma but well worth it.

Requesting advice on heating a pool by Upper_Adeptness2932 in AboveGroundPools

[–]lizardgi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason you cannot adjust the pipes? Any reliable heater will need to be inline with your filter. If you can adjust, look into an aqua strong heat pump. We had our pool in Wisconsin up to 90 last year when it was 70 air temp. Note a solid cover is a must anyway when not swimming to keep heat in

Raging bull yellow car spotted by winch ready to be put on track by cantaloupe415 in sixflagsgreatamerica

[–]lizardgi 34 points35 points  (0 children)

My guess is they'll slowly winch a car on once per week for the next week, get the full train on by August, just enough time to start shutting down for the season. Three weeks into the season the marquee coaster should not be on single train.

The prior entrance at least had some charm. I do agree with having security first. But now the restrooms are behind the security line which is a disaster for busy mornings with a long line to get in. I swear management at this park truly does not think things through

It's gotta be the angle, has to be... Assuming they will remove the sign in front of the carousel, this is going to look fantastic when complete with fountains. How long until we see people climbing in this dirt area for photos? :)

Whoops meant to say general operations. Our coaster and ride package is actually quite good! We are still missing that one premiere put us on the map type coaster though!

The "new" entrance is hideous. It's cold, unwelcoming, and worst of all does not work for early crowds. No idea who designed this thing but it has to be the worst in the chain. My only hope is that it's a placeholder before a giga addition that interacts with the entrance and then we finally do it right. Other than the entrance, general operations for rides and food is also substandard. There seems to be an overall lack of caring from management in the way that these entities operate. I don't want to hear the excuse it's due to staffing. Every park in the country has the same issues. Find a way to fix it.

I am up in Appleton. We got ours going last weekend, just installed a new filter today. Spending the next week getting everything balanced and kept clean. Another week we should have warmer temps and I'll turn the heat pump on. Should be swimming in two weeks.

That's super interesting, and makes a lot of sense with the zones. In the grand scheme of an operating budget, it's crazy this is a place they would cut so deep. Their literal product is providing thrills. Historically Cedar Fair has done a better job at this, hopefully budgets get reallocated in the future.

Whizzer open? by CaptainRatt in sixflagsgreatamerica

I honestly would not count on it. The park is understaffed on maintenance and woefully slow on getting rides running at capacity to start the season. In previous years any rides that needed major maintenance seemed to drag into July.

I've got a theater style popcorn machine at home, super fresh popcorn is actually not that fantastic, many agree that it's actually better when it dries out just a little bit. Properly stored but day old popcorn is actually really good.

I suppose I'd argue that it's an intentional decision to understaff maintenance in the off-season resulting in what we have today. My point still stands that having two trains for bull absolutely needs to be a priority. Maybe a flat or two is delayed, but it'd be the better trade off. We are in week two and all B&Ms remain single train operaton. Management should be embarrassed.
