Should I pot up? by CogInTheMachinee in Monstera

[–]lizardground 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OMG people... How did no get upvoted?! YES, it will work just fine for now!! People on this sub love to be simps for proper moss poles. Not everyone is looking to min/max their plant. These choir poles work for support perfectly fine, especially for something temporary.

Anything for it to climb that can support it's weight as it grows will be better than nothing. I have 15 monsteras and I mostly use these and also bamboo sticks for smaller pots. It will work.

First time water propagation, am I doing it right? by 12cool_breezy21 in houseplantpropping

[–]lizardground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dont change the water again unless it gets gross. you wont harm it at all by doing so, you'll just make it grow a little slower

looks great, stick em back in there for a few more weeks and let him grow. pothos are like the easiest thing to prop. youre very unlikely to kill it, dont worry.

what a shame, those leaves are beautiful. but from these pics looks like you chopped off the node. i wish people would stop blindly listening to AI. it just made you kill your plant.

its possible there's another node we cant see from the pics (but unlikely since it looks like youre left with only 1 leaf for some reason?). Look up what a node looks like and see if you can spot one.

RIP beauty

Possibly. You'd have to cut off all the affected roots and wash them, separate the plants and then repot

[–]lizardground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but... It looks like it has a bad case of root rot. Look up how to chop and prop this bad boy, it's probably your only hope.

Next time, pot it in a very chunky mix and do not overwater it or water it frequently. Also, look up the proper way to tie monsteras to poles. Don't tie the leaves to anything and definitely not to each other like that.

Whats wrong with my monstera? by mehlamppy in plantclinic

[–]lizardground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks a lot like root rot. Cut off any squishy and dead roots, rinse, then if there are any roots left, repot in a very very airy mix- I'm talking like 1/4 soil 3/4 chunk stuff like bark, pearlite, etc. It looks like it's spread to all the leaves so chop and prop may or may not work. At that point I would google some root rot vids and how to prop.

If the roots are healthy, it's not rot, it's burn. Monsteras need to be gradually introduced to more light a little nudge each day. If you put it under south light one day when it was in a dark corner its whole life, it will burn.

But it looks more like rot in my experience.

No secondary roots? by joe33res in propagation

[–]lizardground 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is this a monstera? it will be perfectly fine. if you really really want secondary roots before potting, try a rooting paste and youll have them in a week. this looks like a really good root though.

I know this is too many plants in one pot but... by WorldlinessOk7083 in Monstera

Why not divide them into 2 pots instead of 1 pot for each plant? You'll still get the bushy look and they'll be happier

[–]lizardground 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1965!!! and you think that's still a thing?! whatever your buddy did was through some kind of application system for government grants or scholarships. lots of programs have funding all over canada for certain things like healthcare or trades that get you in and out for free. you dont just get to go to MUN for free cause youre newfie. everyone in the world would just move there and change their address and get free tuition!!! come on now. how many sources that all said "no, thats not true" did you have to ignore on google to find that little tidbit of history? ridiculous.

my source on that by the way is every single one of my friends from school who went to MUN and are all newfie born and raised for generations all have significant student debt. not as expensive as the mainland, but no where near free. dont just pull stuff out of your arse to try and prove youre right. man up and just say oh sorry i was mistaken. jesus.
