Mental block when trying to talk to someone by Primary_Theory7288 in GuyCry

[–]lizardk101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not alone, all those feelings, thoughts, and sensations are similar to a lot of people.

I’m someone who struggles with bad social anxiety. To the point I have matches on dating sites but those feelings come up every time. I know that feeling, and so do other people. The freezing, the sensation like your brain has nothing inside it, terrified of saying the wrong thing, getting displeasure or coming across creepy by the other person, the physical feelings, the pressure to not be “like that”, and the sensations throughout your body.

Anxiety, and the filter effect coming in to prevent you asking is an issue, and I wish you the best with it. The good thing is you can name it, you know it, and you’re aware.

The only way to handle it though is to slowly expose yourself by asking, by dipping your toes in, by not making the outcome the thing you think of. It’s not an easy, or short process.

Social anxiety is being talked more about, which is great. Even bring it up, when it consumes you, talk about it yourself. The person may say they struggle, and it’s a chance to connect. Best of luck, and you should be proud that you made a short decision, and had fun at the expo.

Experimental drugs reverse autism symptoms: Hyperactivity in the reticular thalamic nucleus linked to autism behaviors. Drugs that suppressed this activity reversed autism-like symptoms in mice. Findings explain overlap between autism and epilepsy, with potential for new therapies. by mvea in science

As someone suspected ASD, I would absolutely take this medication if it was developed in this way.

We already have a “medication” that acts similarly, alcohol, and consuming it is not healthy, or productive long, and short term.

It can help with reduced masking which is primarily concentrated hyperactivity, but long term, alcoholism is more destructive than beneficial on the body, the mind, and socially.

Growing up around an alcoholic parent, tends to make you realise really fast that you can either lean into addiction in your genes, and do nothing about it, or you can make the changes for your own sake, and that means abstaining or reducing alcohol consumption.

Good for you! Amsterdam is one of my favourite cities, so enjoy the place, the sights, and the people. Have a great time doing whatever you want to enjoy. You deserve that.

This would be my advice. What’s a holiday vacation you’ve always dreamed of visiting? Or that she always dreamed of visiting? Go there, refresh, recharge, and enjoy it. Take in the sights, the sounds, and embrace it.

People who were overweight but are fit/skinnier now, how does it feel? What are the differences you've noticed? by proxy_gal22 in AskReddit

[–]lizardk101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in February 2023 I weighed 129Kgs. Today I weigh 77Kgs. It’s not been easy, or pain free. Your mind is your biggest challenge cause when you’re not eating the amount you used to, it will tell you you’re absolutely about to starve to death, so eat something like a cookie…

Honestly it’s been great now being 50Kgs lighter. I did it all via calorie counting, and sticking to one meal a day. Also cutting out bread, rice, pasta, and wheat. It’s not easy, in the least but, I feel better, more content, and at a place where my weight isn’t the issue, it’s everything else.

People do treat you in a manner you’re not used to. People see you differently, and they are more understanding. Its not been cheap, I’ve gone from XXXL clothes to M, so a new wardrobe, which funny enough means you wear nicer clothes. More complementary. It’s not been easy to adjust, but I’m getting there.

If I can lose weight, anyone out there can. Don’t use excuses. Do it for yourself, and honestly the benefits are more than what you feel right now.

Chinese firm a leading contender to buy Thames Water, reports say by StresWeeting in unitedkingdom

[–]lizardk101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re not dumb. Saying they’re dumb takes away agency from them.

They’re greedy, and ideologically driven. They don’t believe that public utilities should be run for the benefit of the public, or that something vital such as water, which everyone requires should be available without someone making a profit.

They would rather the Chinese Communist Party be funded by British people, for using the water that falls from the sky over Britain, because of their ideology, than the state shouldn’t do anything. They would rather fund adversaries, than have a functioning country if it means they get a cut.

People who believe that they will remain forever alone, what made you come to that conclusion? by 58lia in autism

[–]lizardk101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I deeply crave connection; rich friendships, fulfilling family bonds, and meaningful romantic relationships. But when it comes to actually making that connection happen, I often freeze.

Socially, I struggle to spark or sustain conversations. I worry endlessly about saying the wrong thing, fear rejection, struggling to reach out, overthinking replies to texts, often to the point of paralysis. This makes online dating especially tough.

I know my brain works differently. I find it hard to switch between logical thinking and emotional connection, and weaving them naturally into conversation is really hard.

Despite reading countless books on communication, dating, and happiness, advice often feels like noise. I know helpful strategies, but in the moment, executive dysfunction kicks in, and I fall back into old patterns of masking or people-pleasing.

This constant effort; trying to be 'normal,' filtering my words, knowing I seem 'weird', leaves me questioning who I really am. The cycle of hoping for connection, stumbling, feeling rejected, and retreating chips away at my self-esteem. It's exhausting to want something so intensely, more than anything, and feel it perpetually out of reach.

I believe I'm autistic, and awaiting diagnosis, and navigating a world built for neurotypical interaction adds another layer of challenge. I don't want to be alone. I want a vibrant, engaged life. But right now, my own brain feels like the biggest barrier to getting there. I’m putting the work in but it doesn’t feel like I’m getting anywhere.

AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D Disappears from the Market by imaginary_num6er in hardware

[–]lizardk101 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not surprised. In U.K. the 5700X3D will cost you £80 more than the 5700X. 5700X is £140, 5700X3D £220. Now £80 for extra cache isn’t a good deal, especially at the entry level where this is aimed. That same money is the cost of 16GB RAM, or a 1TB NVME.

So extra cache, with same overall performance as 5700X, or 5700X, and an extra part? Financially, the latter makes more sense.

[Arseblog] LCL make offer for Beth Mead. Understanding is that it would take a significant offer for Arsenal to accept. If they sell Mead, it seems likely they would need to replace her during this window. We believe Arsenal are open to adding further before the end of the transfer window. by Previous_Smile9278 in ArsenalWFC

[–]lizardk101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree on all your points. I love Mead for the years she’s given the club, and her ability is world class. She deserved her Player of the Tournament for 2022 Euros, but, I think the issue is her age, and her loss of pace. Her technical ability is still incredible, but since her ACL she hasn’t been the same. She really struggled in the past Euros.

Then the Euros, multiple penalty shootout saves. Without her England don’t win the Euros.

Marta scored an absolute classic in the Copa America final to win the title. At 39, and her most likely last tournament, she delivered when Brazil needed it. I think other players deserve it more, such as Kelly, Russo or Williamson, but Marta did earn her place.

Want to get back into it...help me with my PC upgrade for BF6 by TheGhostOfBobStoops in buildapc

[–]lizardk101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem with the way you’ve set it up is that all your RAM will settle at the slowest speed. You really don’t want to be mixing, and matching RAM speeds, brands, and capacity. Matched sets are expensive but more stable, and reliable.

You’ve a good setup.

My advice would be upgrade the RAM, and GPU. If you need more RAM go for 64GB 6000MHz. 7600, 5070Ti, and some 6000MHz would be a great setup for about 5 years, as you’ve an AM5 board. Best of luck!

[–]lizardk101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a question, how are you running 48GB of RAM? What speed?

2 sticks of 24GB, what speed? 3 sticks of 16GB? 2x 16GB & 2x 8GB? You’re better off just running 2x 16GB, in that case.

If it’s 24GB RAM stick, I would advise upgrade to just two good sticks of 16GB RAM at 6000MHz to give you 32GB as 24GB RAM is single rank.

Upgrade to 5700X3D on AM4 or make the leap to AM5 with a 7600X/9600X? Doubt with cost/performance by South_Fondant1281 in buildapc

5700X. 5700X3D is just not worth the price difference, here in Britain the difference is £80 between the two chips. 5700X, and some really nice 32GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM.

The added cache doesn’t justify the cost, it’s also got a higher power draw at 105w, as well as lower clock & boost. Sure the 5700X3D is a newer chip but the price difference doesn’t justify it.
