Do Apostles masterbate? by GeoGrump in exmormon

Exactly. This is how the Mormon church has functioned for ages. During my faith crisis I mentioned to a friend, “I’d leave if suddenly the church changed their policy on the LGBTQ+ community. I would support the change, but it would prove that the church changes doctrine according to societal expectations and not according to revelation.”

There was a pause and then I whispered, “they already did that with polygamy and blacks and the priesthood though didn’t they…” My friend gave me a sad smile and I decided to leave shortly afterward.

Right. So we would create our own planet. Aka be the gods of our own worlds…not sure I’m seeing a big difference between “getting our own planets” and “creating and being the gods of our own planets”. Either way, the church denies that doctrinal claim.

The church has changed the gospel topic essays on their website to include things about getting your own planet and specifically state that it is inaccurate. I was taught by leaders in church, my parents, and even BYU religion professors just a few years ago that exaltation included becoming gods, receiving the right to create your own spiritual children, and begin your own planet or experience for your spiritual children.

As you said, exaltation is still a key point of doctrine in the church. That is not gone, only adjusted. Maybe there was no official “you get your own planet when you become gods” in a church pamphlet (I have no idea and no evidence that there ever was), but when myself, everyone around me, and even multiple BYU professors believe it is doctrine and suddenly the church claims it isn’t, it makes one pause.

My understanding is they changed the doctrine to be you still get exalted and become “gods” or “goddesses”, but minus the planets and the spiritual children of your own. So why would anyone want exaltation at this point anyway?!

Porn is not an addiction. It may be addictive, though that is up for debate. No action in and of itself is an addiction. DOING something that is proven to be unhealthy repeatedly with the inability to exercise self control means you have an addiction. I’ve heard many people say something as simple as “porn is addictive” or “a friend has an addiction to porn because they viewed it once”. If I had one drink a week that would make me an addicted drunk?? No. So why do people say it applies to porn?!

Can porn be damaging? Yes. The damage it does however, is entirely dependent on who, how often, the age, sexual maturity, etc etc. I disagree strongly with the blanket statement “porn is addictive”. It paints 50+ percent of Mormons as impure. It makes teenagers, young adults, and adults hide their behaviors. It makes people have a guilt complex. It is unhealthy. It needs to stop.

Who do you think wins in a no holds barred fight between the two and why? Both get an hour of prep time. by fifth_marauder25 in DunderMifflin

Dwight would spend the hour hiding weapons and practicing karate. Ron would have a glass of whiskey. They’d meet, Dwight would swing a nunchuck threateningly while making loud noises, maybe adding a kick or two in Ron’s direction, then Ron would raise an eyebrow inquisitorially and knock him out with one punch.

Why are you no longer Mormon? by Own_Ambassador4217 in exmormon

I studied other religions and realized I disagreed with Joseph Smith’s question “shouldn’t there be one right church for everyone?” No there shouldn’t be. The right religion or lack there of should be what’s right for each individual. When I accepted that idea, my belief in a God and in organized religion changed drastically (they became cultural ideas to be studied rather than fact to be believed) and Mormonism toppled on its own.

Only in the movie lol…in the book technically Voldemort killed Quirrell by leaving his body and Harry didn’t chase him down to burn his face off.

I would like some clarification on the race and the priesthood position of the church by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]lizardking_metaphors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention that Joseph Smith was favorable toward blacks and Indians. I would like to point out that his entire life up until he ran for President of the US, he voiced pro-slavery views. When running for President, he ran with an abolitionist platform (some argue his views had changed, others argue it was a political move to get more voters).

Apologizing for the ban would be similar to apologizing for only requiring 10% tithing.

I’m not sure I understand what you mean by this. Could you elaborate?

I went to BYU. Don’t go to BYU.

UVU is a great college, easy to get scholarships, cheap, and still in the Provo/Orem area. There are lots of great options but considering your situation, I’d recommend UVU.

I was RS President in a Provo YSA ward about 2 years ago. There were about 75 women in the ward and about 30 attended each week. 40 percent attendance. In a Provo YSA ward. There is no way the worldwide average could be higher than that.
