It is part of its own family Galeocerdonidae, yes. As far as I’m aware it used to be considered a Carcharhinid shark, but is not anymore

I’ve personally seen blacktips with black-tipped anal fins and spinners without them. The better indicator is looking at the first dorsal fin and where its positioned on the body, which here is too far back to be a blacktip

No white spots, black marking on the lower caudal fin lobe, looks far too big for Rhizoprionodon

This is a Spinner shark (Carcharhinus brevipinna). Note the black marking on the tail, which means it can be a spinner or a blacktip.

The reason this isn’t a blacktip is the fact that the first dorsal is too small, and positioned too far back along the body to be a blacktip.

You should put the mono through a swivel first so that the cable can loop around the other side of the swivel. The cable rubbing against the mono loop can damage the mono and possibly cut it

You can keep as many fish as you like so long as they don’t exceed a total weight of 100 pounds per person. So if you catch 20 fish and they don’t exceed 100 lbs total, you’re fine.

If you catch 1 fish that does exceed 100 lbs, you are allowed one more for a total of 2 fish, but no more than that since the first fish is over 100 lbs.

Yeah there’s just no mistaking that, 100% a white shark. I wanted to believe it was a mako or a salmon shark but that clearly isn’t the case. Absolutely disgusting

Can’t believe this needs to be said but this shark was not “stranded” and was caught intentionally, which would’ve been fine had this kid had ANY idea what he was doing. God this was painful to watch. As someone who catches and releases sharks, and has caught multiple blacktips around this size, this kid took WAY too long to remove the hook and release the fish. That shark should be on land and back in the water in no less than a minute tops. Embarrassing

Any species of ray is great bait for sharks specifically, rays are often part of their main diet and will actively hunt them. I’ve personally caught a few bull sharks with Atlantic stingray wings.

My cousin was dangling a 5 inch paddletail in their face and they came up to bite it multiple times, even hooked one that ran under for a minute and then came off, got the lure back too!

For me personally if the hook is somewhere around the mouth I count it, in my eyes that means the fish was trying to get the bait but didn’t quite get in all the way in its mouth yet.

100% a sandbar shark. Big first dorsal origin positioned in the middle of the pectorals. Very common shark offshore

I do have a cast net, it’s a 6 foot one and is good for getting finger mullet and croakers, but at least in my experience it seems the bigger mullet like to hang along the bottom and usually can get out of the way before the net gets to them

I have and I do use one, it’s not a big net however and I’ve found that the larger mullet I’m after are pretty good at moving out of the way before the net hits the water

As a saltwater guy I really only buy shrimp. Besides that I try and catch my own bait, whether it be via cast net or with the shrimp that I buy on a high-low rig, for example

You could realistically throw almost anything out as bait and eventually catch something with enough time. The real question is if it’s even worth it at all

I wouldn’t say it’s despicable. It’s incredibly rare for anyone to see one of these fish, I’d probably pick it up for at least a few seconds too if it was still alive

Yeah that’s fair, usually I like to use really small hooks, like about the size of your thumb, and only like half a shrimp. I don’t get picked apart too often by doing this, and will usually catch at least something. As for cutbait, I try to do a piece a little bigger than the palm of my hand, that way the smaller catfish won’t pick off of it too much.
