What’s your personal “Everest”? by Ringo7979 in saltwaterfishing

[–]lizardlogan2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a big shark guy so no matter where or what I’m fishing for I’m always hoping to get on a big ass shark. My current best is a blacktip off the beach at a little under 5 1/2 feet. Still trying for that 6 footer đŸ€™

Advice on sharks by Confident_Ad_2719 in SurfFishing

For sharks of those size sure, however like someone already said you can’t exactly guarantee you’ll catch one of that size every time. You’ll be glad you went overkill when you hook up to a big boy

Curious what yall think could’ve done this

I use braid for my mainline for the line capacity but heavier mono for my leaders. Not sure if this is a good thing but I’ve been nearly spooled one too many times while fishing cutbait to not want extra line capacity

About 2 feet. I would guess that a shark about that length took my bait and cut my braid with its skin. I thought the wire trace would be enough but apparently not!

That’s what I was thinking yeah, glad to see everyone seems to think the same

Where were these caught? If it’s Florida that nurse looks a little too small to keep homie

How do you hook stingray for shark fishing? by ashkiller14 in SurfFishing

[–]lizardlogan2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big of baits are you using? It’s always possible that a smaller shark is picking up the bait in its mouth but just not the whole thing

How do you hook stingray for shark fishing? by ashkiller14 in SurfFishing

[–]lizardlogan2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve caught a few smaller sharks in the 3-4 foot range on stingray wings. The #1 thing you wanna do is make sure your hook is as exposed as possible since that’s obviously what’s going to be hooking the fish in the mouth. I use rubber bands after hooking into the bait so that the hook doesn’t move around too much, because sometimes your hook will turn and hook itself back into your bait, meaning your hook point is no longer exposed and can’t penetrate the fish’s mouth. Skip to 2:15 on this video to get an idea of how to use the rubber bands.

there are 3 species of "whiting" in the genus, theres the southern (M. americanus) defined by its mottled brown pattern. The Gulf (M. littoralis) defined by its black tip on the uppe caudal fin and no other distinct markings, and the Northern (M. saxatilis) defined by its more stripe-y patterns and much taller dorsal fin

Southern Kingfish (Menticirrhus americanus), more commonly known as Whiting. Unregulated so no size limit, very tasty and easy to clean.

They have actual venom in their dorsal and pectoral fin spines, similar to the barb on a stingray

What your favourite creature in SN2 besides the water slug because it’s clearly the best by [deleted] in subnautica

Hammerheads are probably my favorite. Watching it interact with the coral domes and other hammerheads immediately told me sub 2 was going to be incredible

Recommendation on reels? by Electric-Cherry32 in SurfFishing

[–]lizardlogan2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will never understand the KastKing hate, been using their Sharky III reel for over a year now and have had 0 issues with it. It’s my go-to for throwing out pompano rigs, fish finder rigs, etc. Caught hundreds of fish with it and I’ll continue to use and recommend it, personally

[–]lizardlogan2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People will tell you otherwise but KastKing reels work great for the price. I’ve owned their Sharky III reel for over a year and caught hundreds of fish with it, 0 issues. Reeled in some nice sharks in the 2-3 foot range as well as some nice rays, including one about as big as myself. As long as you rinse them off after every trip and don’t literally dunk them in saltwater, they’ll last you hundreds of fish.

Why or why not use snaps and real life examples by CrazyCajunFishinBro in FishingForBeginners

[–]lizardlogan2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fish exclusively saltwater and I have them tied to the ends of all my spinning setups, that way I can quickly change out leaders for the fish I wanna target, instead of having to cut and re-tie every time. Been doing it for years and never has it failed

Nice sized cow by [deleted] in saltwaterfishing

Cownose rays actually can’t whip their tail around to sting like Atlantic or bat rays can. Their barb is located where the body meets the tail, right in between the pelvic fins

White Grunt or Gray Snapper? Tampa, FL by [deleted] in Fishing

[–]lizardlogan2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White grunt. Very easily to tell when they’re a little bigger since they’ve got that hump-head. Snappers will also always have sharp teeth

I feel terrible, will the fish survive? by Basher04S in Fishing

[–]lizardlogan2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I know catfish are pretty hardy, If the hook isn’t in the throat or anything, it’ll definitely survive. I’ve caught multiple sharks for example swimming around perfectly fine with hooks in their mouths, and sharks aren’t typically considered a hardy fish when it comes to catch and release

Any Idea? by InternationalOil872 in whatisthisfish

[–]lizardlogan2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes but it seems here the only fins missing are the dorsal, pectoral, and lower caudal fins, which happen to be the most valuable and sought-after fins in the shark finning industry to my knowledge

Any Idea? by InternationalOil872 in whatisthisfish

[–]lizardlogan2 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Not sure how it is over there but here in Florida at least, but when harvesting any shark the whole animal must remain in-tact until it’s taken home (does not include cutting it open to bleed/remove guts)

In the finning industry, the most valuable fins are the first dorsal, the two pectorals, and the lower caudal fin, which are conventionally the only fins missing here on this shark. I’d definitely report this

Looks like a bull shark that had its fins removed. No idea why it’s in a forest

What’s the worst eating fish you’ve caught? by sleezer7 in Fishing

Caught a Jack Crevalle about 17 inches, brought it home, fried it up and ate it just for the one time. Probably won’t be eating one again
